The Power of Meditation
The correct definition of meditation is to think constantly of something. You become that on which you meditate. Think of God, you become God. Think of stone, you become a stone. The only thing that the process of meditation is really meant to teach us is to remind us that there is something above from which we have come here and it is our first duty to get back where we belong. Meditation is not only meant for the saints it is meant for everyone. Another point to emphasize is that, the only way to learn to do meditation is to actually do it, and not reading books on the topic. There are many methods of doing meditation; many stages; and lots of benefits but the ultimate purpose of meditation is to explore reality and awaken divinity within us. If baseball had relatives, town ball would be its first cousin. It was so similar , and by 1800 townball was played everywhere. The only difference was that town ball did not have rules, and people were getting away with more than they would if they was playing baseball. Someone thought that not having rules for a game was not fair, so he sat down and thought of some rules and that’s how baseball came about. His name was Albert Doubleday. Baseball is a competitive sport, and so many people that play this sport wants to be in the spotlight all the time. 1744, the ball flies in the air and the boy runs to the home plate and they have scored a point. Of course, he feels that he is great at that sport, and so does his friends around him. When a team feels as though they are doing well, it brings great joy to them.
Many variations of the game used to be played in the 18th Century. They were played in New York, Massachusetts, and Philadelphia, but the first ever baseball club was called the “knickerbockers baseball club” created by Alexander Joy Cartwright. Cartwright wanted to United States and eventually the world to know about his new past time so in 1849 he went to California (because of the gold rush) and taught some of the gold miners the game. Before Cartwright invented the rules and regulations along with the name “baseball” people played a game called “town ball” and “goal ball” which was very similar back in the 18th century. When baseball began to expand rapidly people started playing it more often and in 1958 the “Brooklyn Dodgers” was the first team added to the “Major League Baseball Association” or “MLB” for short (Fay 2+).
For thousands of years people have practiced mediation for spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being. Albeit there are many mediation types, in this paper I will be discussing and focusing on mindfulness mediation. Before further exploring mindfulness mediation, it is crucial to define mediation as a whole. Tang, Holzel, & Posner, 2016 state “Meditation can be defined as a form of mental training that aims to improve an individual’s core psychological capacities, such as attentional and emotional capacities” (p.213). Having that in mind, we can dive into mindfulness mediation. Mindfulness meditation is defined as “nonjudgmental attention to present-moment experiences (Tang, Holzel, & Posner, 2016).” A useful analogy to consider is going to the gym, going to the gym allows one to enhance the body, well similarly, practicing mindfulness is akin to taking the mind to the psychic gym, it enhances it. Mindfulness meditation involves focusing on your breathing and then bringing your mind’s attention to the present all while dismissing discursive thoughts and maintaining a special focus on breathing.
Though Buddhism has long been a disciplined and strict religion since its’ beginning in the 3rd Century, it has recently gained positive utilitarian use within the psychological and neurological fields of science. Programs dedicated to improving and helping the lives of those who suffer from mental illness have started to incorporate the use of meditation as a form of treatment. Meditation is enforced in many schools of Buddhism as a method, or a way of life, to becoming enlightened. With growing qualitative and quantitative research on meditation, it becomes more evidential of the positive and life changing impact meditation serves in improving overall health of the mentally ill. Additionally, meditation can be implemented as a preventative
...nstructions however, a printer's error had changed sixty feet to sixty feet six inches. When this error was discovered, it was to late to do anything. Hundreds of fields around the country had already been altered, and it remains the official distance separating the pitcher from the batter. Also in 1898 the first base stealing statistics and rules that define a balk appear. By 1900 the first pentagon shaped home plate appears on a baseball diamond. The history of baseball is so interesting to see how people actually came up with this wonderful idea to play a game called baseball. If you compare the modern game now, to game in the 1800's, the game looks pretty much the same just some minor changes of how the game is played. Well to conclude my essay baseball still remains as "Americas favorite past time sport."
Meditation is an age-old practice that has renewed itself in many different cultures and times. Despite its age, however, there remains a mystery and some ambiguity as to what it is, or even how one performs it. The practice and tradition of meditation dates back thousands of years having appeared in many eastern traditions. Meditation’s ancient roots cloud its origins from being attributed to a sole inventor or religion, though Bon, Hindu, Shinto, Dao, and later, Buddhism are responsible for its development. Its practice has permeated almost all major world religions, but under different names. It has become a practice without borders, influencing millions with its tranquil and healing effects.
The prolonged shortage of skilled nursing personnel has been a serious concern to the healthcare industry, and this shortage has impacted the quality of care delivery. The Transcendental Meditation technique is a simple, natural, effortless procedure practiced for any amount of time, usually 10-20 minutes in the morning and evening, while sitting comfortably with the eyes closed. During this technique, the individual's awareness settles down and experiences a unique state of restful alertness. As the body becomes deeply relaxed, the mind transcends all mental activity to experience the simplest form of awareness, Transcendental Consciousness, where consciousness is open to itself. This is the self-referral state of consciousness.
