Reflections
On a late Friday afternoon, Bill Goodell left Oak Hall at Bemidji State University. He went to his Chevy pick-up and started the engine. Pumping the gas pedal a few times, the truck warmed up and began to run smoothly. Bill shifted into first gear and pulled out of the parking lot. He headed up Irvine Avenue and out of Bemidji city limits. He passed several gas stations and other businesses heading up to his friends' house.
Fiddling with the radio's volume, the radio stopped in the middle of George Thorgood's Bad to the Bone. The time flashed on the readout, 12:00 A.M. "Damn it!" Bill screamed, but it was useless. The radio had done this before. Bill reasoned that it was a bad wiring. Unfortunately, Bill lacked the knowledge to fix the radio, lacked the tools to fix it and he did not have the time to learn.
Bill Goodell drove up the dirt driveway to the Texans' house. It had been three weeks since he was at the Texans' home. The Texans were expecting Bill an hour ago, but the fresh snow made the roads slick as shit. Bill chuckled to himself on the simplicity of the Texans' nickname. It was based on their state of birth.
Johnothan Barksbee rode up the Orc Pit Inn and Tavern in the city of Oosmosk. It was over two years since he last saw the other members of the Circle of Champions. He wondered why they summoned him in such a long time. Johnothan laughed at the good times with the Circle. Its name was derived when he and his then-unknown companions in arms circled the lich king, Al-Khunt, and defeated him and saved the Dales from hundreds of undead creatures.
Bill opened the door to his truck and went to the house. For a moment, Bill stared at his pick-up. The white paint was chipped, the thing sucked ga...

... his wounds. Johnothan gathered his equipment in the city. He bid farewell to his comrades and headed back to the Orc Pit.
"Good game," Bill said, stretching his arms in the air. Bill picked up his sheets and dice and placed into his backpack. He said good-bye and headed back to his dorm room.
Back in his room at the Orc Pit, Johnothan relaxed after his long trek. Johnothan sat down and emptied his backpack. He took the water basin, damped a linen cloth and wiped his brow. The half-elven warrior stood up and stared a mirror hanging from the nearly bare wall.
After unlocking the door, Bill entered his dorm room. Bill sat down and looked at his Johnothan Barksbee character sheet. He picked up a damp towel from showering early and wiped his forehead. The college student stood up and stared into the mirror next to his closet.
They stood and faced each other.
The story kicks off right away as Duff is leaving his parents’ house in Richmond, Virginia. He is beginning his journey to Los Angeles to be a computer programmer. He leaves his home town in his used three-thousand dollar, white, Ford Escort. He bought the car from the owner of a pizza shop down the street strictly for the long trip. Duff didn’t care much about cars, as longs as they get him from place to place. Duff pulls onto the highway and drives for about fifteen minutes before something goes terribly wrong. A weird noise came from the front of the car and then a loud bang. The car rolled to a stop near a small exit. Duff looked at the engine, but had no hope of knowing what happened. So Duff called a tow-truck which took the car five miles west to a garage in a small hick town. The mechanics diagnosed that he had thrown an engine rod. This usually happens if the engine doesn’t get oiled enough. Duff had no idea of the last oil change since he had only had the car for two weeks.
Although the United States has replaced a partially drafted army with an all-volunteer army, the Selective Service System stills allows men to be drafted if the military is too small (Olson-Raymer, par. 48-50). When the United States invaded Iraq, hundreds of thousands of Americans voluntarily enlisted (par. 55). Despite this, military personnel claimed that there was a shortage of soldiers, and a draft would be beneficial in the war effort (Thompson, par. 7). Fortunately, the draft remained and still remains unnecessary. Whenever a draft has been implemented in the United States, controversy has ensued. Some people think a draft
People who support the military draft will say that it is the obligation of every citizen of the United States, and every other person residing in the United States, who is between the ages of 18 and 42, to perform a period of national service. Aren?t there many other ways--less deadly ways--to contribute to the country?s well being? Should we, as citizens, be allowed to evade this ultimate obligation by turning it over to the poorer members of society, those who can't find good-paying jobs or training except in the military? In "A War for Us, Fought by Them," William Broyles, a Vietnam war veteran and the father of a young man who is a soldier in the Marines, argues that the military draft should be brought back, and this time it should be done right: everybody should be drafted, not just ?the profoundly patriotic or the economically needy" (Broyles 695).
“The United States relinquished mandatory military service after the Vietnam War in 1973” (Kestnbaum, 18). Since then, the idea of reinstating a draft entered the public discourse on several occasions. Its proponents were particularly vocal in the aftermath of September 11, 2001 and the US military campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan. “Although reintroducing conscription might provoke concerns of infringing on the rights and liberties guaranteed by the US constitution” (Cowen, 170), mandatory military service constitutes part of everyone’s civic obligation and would greatly help our country become better protected in the face of rapidly proliferating global threats.

The United States should not reinstate the draft in order to save money, to lower stress, and to allow for a more effective military. In order to maintain a stable army the government needs to have the mental and physical ability to tolerate the stress and physical conditions. Paying volunteer soldiers proves less expensive than compensating millions of unwilling servicemen. When drafting people they will expect more of a return for serving their personal time. Forcing these training cadres to put up with the recruits makes their stress levels raise. These ranks already have to worry about 2,600,000 enlisted people, not including active duty soldiers. Coming from an enlisted soldier in the army, why would a volunteer soldier want to fight along
If you want to go to war, go ahead. I will not stop you from doing something that is obviously keeping our nation as safe as possible but that’s a long way from what conscription is. No teenager is ready for war, including myself. Is anyone really ever ready for war? No, of course not. However, it should at least be your own choice. America is supposed to be the land of the free and brave. You can’t be free if you don’t have the liberty to choose whether you will join the armed forces or not. Conscription eradicates our basic human rights while simultaneously disregarding the importance of education, free will, and child development and for these reasons I strongly disagree with
When the battle his over Jenny goes out to were the battle happened and finds the dragon and John lying in bloody pools and realizes that john is still alive. She takes him back to camp and puts healing spells on him. She then goes back to the dragon and sees that he is still alive to. The dragon told her that if she healed him that he would tell her where the books of healing were in the caves called the deep so she could heal John. She agrees and the dragon through telepathy shows her the way in the maze of tunnels.
Later in the tale, the merchant announced that he must journey to Bruges to stock up on goods to sell, so he invited the monk to his home to spend time and dine with him before he left. The monk was there for three days. On the first two, he and the merchant ate and drank and had a wonderful time. On day three, when the merchant was to depart for Bruges, John awoke early and went to the garden to pray while the merchant went to his counting-house to balance his books in prepara...
Every American is Free, and because of many others, are safe. They are able to lay their head down on a pillow and go to sleep knowing that they aren’t going to be shot by soldiers of a different country in their sleep. They don’t have to hide inside their houses and watch fighter vehicles crawl by and wonder if they are going to live to see the sun rise the next day. They are safe because there are men and women over in different countries killing those that threaten our existence. If there was ever a debate about reinstating the draft, I think the answer would be yes, do it because there would be that many more people fighting to keep us safe, those that maybe debated it before would go through with it, and the troubled teens that rebel against
"The soldier is the Army. No army is better than its soldiers. The Soldier is also a citizen. In fact, the highest obligation and privilege of citizenship is that of bearing arms for one’s country” (-General George S. Patton Jr). Here within our borders we are the lucky ones, we have been blessed with the pleasure of so many brave men and women; to volunteer in the world's greatest military; and put their lives on the line for something that they believe is a moral obligation. But, think of some other countries, that have conscription (the practice of ordering people by law to serve in the armed forces) laws. We as a nation have some laws on conscription, and if you are male and above the age of 18 you have already signed the slip of paper stating that in the time of war; if our great nation re-instated the draft then there is a great chance you will be serving on the frontline of the next Great War. This brings me to my first topic of this page, is it ethical to have a draft? My second topic that I will discuss will be on if it is morally acceptable to "draft dodge". What I mean on the second topic is if you have a right; that morally allows you to not go fight in the war.
Further, Soldier Hunt slammed the door behind him on the way out. He was shocked, this man had to go against everything he stood for in life. Continuing, the debate in his head on what to do, John decided to do it; he had to do it. Him and his crew gathered up YellowHawk and his family and started the journey. John took then out and a way into the journey he stopped got off his horse and grabbed two knives out of his saddle bag. Keep in mind he can also speak Lakota. Slowly, he walked over to YellowHawk and said, “ Get off your horse. Get off your
During the early years, children go through crucial development stages, and continuous, quality early childhood education can have a lasting, valuable effect on the overall development of children. High-quality early childhood development programs that offer developmentally adequate curricula, allow children to formulate specified cognitive skills at the suitable age. Developmentally adequate curricula assist in the development of cognitive skills which help them acquire new skills and knowledge. Preschool provides children the opportunities to take part in activities they wouldn’t typically do at home such as arts and crafts, science activities, sand and water play and music and movement. These activities can enhance children's’ lives, increase their development and supply them with the tools they need for the future.
