Philosophy of Classroom Management

School should be a community that is warm, respectful, and open. Students spend approximately 30 hours a week in the classroom and it is imperative they are able to develop and explore their talents while there. In order to do that, the environment of the classroom I create will comprise of me taking a sincere interest in students and see them as unique individuals. I will notice if they play any sports, or participate in any clubs and connect with them at that level. ... My class has faired well in the past when I allow them to brainstorm independent assignments with classmates. They immediately turn to their neighbors and giddily start talking about what they’re going to ask their mom and dad. I return to my desk and tidy up the pile of current events and journal entries sitting in the in-box. I look over the room of chirpy students and soak in the scene of the morning period. The dismissal bell for first period rings and students get out of their desks and march towards the door still deeply engrossed with their neighbor. “Have a good weekend everyone and I’ll see you bright and early Monday morning,” I made sure to wish my students a great day every day. “Have a great weekend too, Ms. H.” Jodi hollered before disappearing out the door. Yes, I certainly will have a wonderful weekend knowing what a fantastic group of kids I have.
