While I no longer visit this childhood playground, over the years I have nurtured my allure to the outdoors by seeking out places that provide me with the creative energy/harmony of ch'i. Let me introduce you to one of these.

The weeping willow no longer leans out parallel over Lake Sinnissippi. Maybe a spiraling wind nudged the tree over the bank into the water. Maybe a flood of spring rains gushed down the ski-jump hill, eroding away the black loam that anchored the roots of the willow, causing the tree to tumble into the la...

Cold Knap Lake Essays

- Cold Knap Lake This poem is about an incident from the poet's childhood. Cold Knap Lake is a real place near Barry in Glamorgan, South Wales. It is a Bronze Age burial site, and something of a local beauty spot. A little girl is drowned in the lake, or so it seems, but the poet's mother gives her the kiss of life, and her (the poet's) father takes the child home. The girl's parents are poor and beat her as a punishment. At this point, the poet wonders whether she, too, "was...there" and saw this (the beating, rather than the rescue) or not....   [tags: English Literature]

A Cultural Connection Between The Grandparents And Their Grandchildren Essay

- “Young people need something stable to hang onto – a cultural connection, a sense of their own past, a hope for their own future. Most of all, they need what grandparents can give them.” This quote by Jay Kesler hits the nail on the head. Leonid Afremov’s Painting, Alley by the Lake Essay

- Secure romantic relationships are based on trust and understanding. They are developed over time and tend to last the longest; however, just because a couple feels secure doesn’t mean the couple is necessarily happy. While every healthy relationship shines with rays of trust and happiness, shadows often lurk filled with lies and deceit. A painting, entitled Alley by the Lake, by Leonid Afremov portrays the secure, yet secret, side to relationships. Happiness holds relationships together. Finding someone who makes feelings arise, plastering a smiling on one’s face, draws any person in....   [tags: Alley by the Lake]
