Learning the Hard Way- Personal Narrative

We live our lives working in order to achieve peace within ourselves,
a sense of accomplishment and happiness. The experiences and
relationships that we develop along the way help to make us who we
are. Weather they are good or bad, we like to believe that knowledge
is gained from the people we meet and the decisions made. I have heard
it said that it is suppose to be the journey that is truly important
in our lives, not the destination. My journey really begins in the
summer of 2003, when I met a man named Rev. Bob Rowland. For me it was
the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.

Before that I had, much like many other people, made some bad
decisions. These decisions could have affected the rest of my life and
I suppose you might say they did. So it was, that I sought out a
guide, and walked off the street into his office on Cathedral Street
looking for hope. Before I go any further, it is important to realize
that for me it was a strange thing that I turned to God or ...

Free Personal Narratives: Learning the Hard Way Essay examples

- Learning the Hard Way “Hi Zac, we are all going out to Hacienda and then we’re all gonna have some fun. I have a surprise for you all. Just be here at six and it’ll be all set.” Kyle hung up the phone and resumed his calling. I threw on a clean shirt and shorts and arrived at his house with two minutes to spare. My blank stare at the empty drive way prompted Kyle to tell me that the six others already went to Hacienda and were getting a table. After dinner we walked to Linway and watched Office Space, a prelude for the weeks to come....   [tags: Personal Narrative Writing]

Essay on Personal Narrative: My Journey to Literacy

- My achievement of becoming literate in both English and Spanish, after overcoming a myriad of obstacles distinguishes my literacy history. Writing was one of the things I didn’t like to do as a child. I always thought writing was a waste of time and that I wasn’t going to need it in life. Even though I didn’t invest much time writing, I was one of the best writers in all my classes, probably because I was very dedicated in the other subjects and I loved reading adventure books. I learned how to read and write by the age of four, since in my native country “the Dominican Republic”, kids are enrolled in school at the age of three; usually parents start their child’s education at home before th...   [tags: Personal Experience, Personal Narrative]

Personal Narrative: My Journey to Literacy Essay

- All I could remember on my journey to literacy was my concern over my brother and sister’s ability to read and write including solving math problems. That did not really motivate not to become literate; I was extremely playful as a child. What I am able to remember is my first day of school, I cried like a baby when my mom dropped me off. I soon began to grow out of my baby stage and school became really interesting. Even though it was not as hard as it is now, the value that pushed me to be literate was how my teacher was able to discipline students if they didn’t give the best to their education....   [tags: Personal Narrative, Education, Teaching]

Learning and Golf- Personal Narrative Essay

- Learning and Golf- Personal Narrative It just always seemed like something that I had to do. Ever since I was ten years old I’ve been playing, practicing, and talking about golf. I always have had a love for the game, but I never really thought about how stressful and painful it made my life. Even at ten I thought my future had already been planned for me. I was already thinking of life as a professional golfer. I was certain that I would go play golf for a big college, and instant fame would soon follow....   [tags: Papers]

Essay on Personal Narrative- A Lesson in Culture Shock

- Personal Narrative- A Lesson in Culture Shock “ You want to be the same as American girls on the outside.” (Tan, Amy) Like Tan in her narrative “Fish Cheeks”, everyone has had a time in their lives when they wanted to fit in at school or home. Sometimes it is hard to try to blend into the surroundings. Moving from Boston to Tallahassee has taught me a lot about such things like honor, pride, and self-reliance. Such is related to us in Wilfred Owens’s “Dulce et Decorum est” which is about his experience in World War I....   [tags: Personal Perspective]

Essay on Personal Narrative- Living a Life of Humility

- Personal Narrative- Living a Life of Humility For the only thing we have to shame is shame itself. Perhaps the name of Amy Tan’s mother will never be remembered like that of FDR, but the truth behind her words rings just as loud. To be different is an aspect of human nature that we are to be proud of, regardless of whether it’s socially hip or socially degrading. To be proud of something is to consider it worthy of honor, and that’s precisely what we must do- honor our individuality by becoming who we really are....   [tags: Personal Perspective]

Personal Narrative: My Religion Teacher Essay

- With Bibles in the desks and a smile on his face, Mr. Murphy was ready to teach. He taught us about our faith and God. He made it sounds like no other teacher has before. I was very excited for day two. Ever since then, Mr. Murphy has inspired me and helped me grow intellectually. Mr. Murphy is the religion teacher for juniors and seniors at St. Thomas Aquinas High School. My first year with him was like a time to grasp our thoughts on our personal faith and beliefs. He was introducing us to a whole new way of learning....   [tags: essay about myself, Personal Experience]

Personal Narrative- My Life as a Student, Athlete and Christian Essay

- Personal Narrative- My Life as a Student, Athlete and Christian “I knew this was bliss, knew it at the time.” These words of Eudora Welty, although expressing her feeling from devouring book after book, can also be applied to my life. While not relating to my literacy, Welty’s lexis nonetheless conveys my own feelings after learning the significance of hard work. I’ve put excess effort in performing the roles of a student, an athlete, and a Christian. Success and growth in each component of my life has taught me the value and necessity of a strong work ethic....   [tags: Personal Perspective]

Personal Narrative: Drafts of my Writing Essay

- Failing to mention either the most rewarding or the most distressing aspects of learning to write would be to tell an incomplete story. I have an intimate yet erratic relationship with writing. I am a most ambivalent lover. Stopping to glance at my watch, my fingers still poised above the keyboard, I have smiled, amazed to find that I have been in a state of bliss in which hours have passed without my noticing. I have also flushed and sweated as I stared at my computer screen, reading my own text over and over again, vainly trying to anticipate the criticism I correctly supposed would come....   [tags: Narrative Essay Writing English]

My First Learning Team Experience Essay

- My First Learning Team Experience My involvement in the Learning Team environment at the University has been a great learning experience. When we were assigned teams at the end of the first week, I did not really know what to expect. I have worked on teams numerous times in my career, both in the professional and private sectors. The teams I have worked on have always been to either produce a product or improve a process. Learning has always been a part of these teams, but I have never been on a team whose specific purpose was centered on learning....   [tags: Personal Narrative Learning Cognition]
