Principles of Coaching
Roles
Role model
A coach that is looking towards winning would be a person that people
look up to because they want to win, and they will try really hard to
get what they want. A winning coach will do what it takes to get to
the top, which is where everybody wants to be.
A coach that is looking towards increasing participation wouldn’t be
as much of a role model than the coach that wants to win. This is
because when you are only looking towards increasing participation you
are not that fused about winning things that is not the reason you are
coaching.
Innovator
A winning coach would learn to cope and manage different abilities;
the coach would have set pieces on how they want things to go. They
will tell the players what and how they want that set piece to run.
A coach looking to increase participation would be more about making
the kids learn new skills. Making sure that they get the hang of it,
even if it means having to put tape on the feet and football to show
where they need to kick it.
Friend
A coaching wanting to win can not get to close to players they have to
be less personal, this is because favouritism could arise and that is
wrong.
A coach increasing participation has to be a friend but a distant
friend due to the child protection act. The coach has to be more of a
friend that the winning coach because this coach wants the kids to
feel comfortable and make them feel that there is no pressure on them
to get everything right.
Manager
A winning coach has to manage a lot of people that do things for him,
such as wash the kit, organise transports and sort...

they know exactly what they want to do therefore will tell the players
and they do what they are told. This coach knows their players so
knows what they need to work on and how they work best.
A coach wanting to increase participation would only use this when
they are teaching the players a skill, so therefore they need to be
autocratic in their leadership.
Laissez-faire style
A coach wanting to win will hardly ever use laissez-faire, this would
be due to the style of this work. A coach wanting to win will know
exactly what they want to do therefore will tell the players what to
do.
A coach wanting to increase participation would maybe sometimes use
laissez-faire this would be to make the players feel more confident
around other players and the coach.

It is not the children themselves, or even the coaches that put this pressure to win
Coach Herman Boone, who is played by Denzel Washington, is a very influential person. He is a perfect leader. While it cannot be found out for sure, Coach Boone can be classified under the trait theory of management, that “Leaders are Born”. The type of leadership he displays cannot be taught, he is able to bring together two different types of groups to act as one, to respect each other and play together. He shows power in the movie, he has a large capacity to influence others. Using his power, he gets the players to conform and forget how others think they are supposed to act towards each other. The goal specificity is also clear in the movie. Coach Boone expects his team to be ‘perfect’, he expects them to win the Virginia State Championship. Former head coach and now assistant coach Bill Yoast, played by Will Patton, is also a very influential person and good leader. He is in charge...

A proper coaching philosophy contains principles which improve character development, teach step by step tactical and technical skills, form proper progressive physical training regimens, and carefully utilize team management to handle and control problems with administrative issues. A coach with a sound philosophy should mold a team with strong cohesion, and he should treat players not only as teammates, but as family and friends who are encouraged to develop communication and lifelong learning of skills through positive support and role modeling from the coach (Mergelsberg, 14-15). The philosophy should also contain written documents of implemented strategies and techniques, so that the coach will know what to improve upon season by season
As a coach you do fail sometimes and that's what is difficult but Michael Jordan once said, “I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeeded.” I believe that this goes for coaching as well because you are going to fail over and over again and you will soon see that those failures are actually your accomplishments. No one said life was easy but coaching can be easy and it’s a way to connect with players and others and bring out the best in people and show that people can work together and accomplish many things no matter how difficult or hard it is and it can be fun and thrilling at the same

To come to this conclusion, it was necessary to research the various causes and effects that go along with these situations. For starters, I decided to look into the player coach relationship and how both are affected by each other. There are many theories as to how involved players and coaches should be in each other’s lives. One source, the Positive Coaching Alliance, takes one of the sides saying that coaches should attempt to maintain boundaries within the relationships of coaches and players. They believe that overstepping these boundaries, by doing things like interacting in social media or being alone together, could cause issues like apparent favoritism. However, Sandro Gamba, a former head coach of a professional basketball team, takes t...
As an athlete I will continue to show my coaches the up most respect. Just this year, I have learned that being a coach is a tough job and that a lot of hours are put in to it. I never realized it until I came to the gym late at night and my coach was still here getting things prepared for our next game. As I observe, I will hopefully learn some different strategies I can use one day when I’m a coach one day. It will help me in the long run because when I become a coach, I plan to be the best coach I can be with many winning
“The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will”. Being a football coach requires someone who can be a great communicator. This person needs to understand communication on both sides an individual can not just demand that it's a one way street where you talk and athletes listen. The career of coaching requires history of the game knowledge of the game, extensive education, and positive and negatives aspects of the game.
“A coach’s role is not to judge or disapprove of the way the coachee treats other people, or indeed how they live their life.” (Starr, J. (2011) p.33.)
Throughout the book “Leading with the Heart,” I read about prime examples of the following leadership theories: transformational leadership, trait theory, behavioral theory, and situational leadership. He recommended that leaders begin with the trait theory when beginning the selection process when starting his or her organization. In chapter one and as well as chapter two, Coach K refers to coachable players. Meaning, players or members that do not mind being taught and learning; willing to take a back seat to someone else in charge. Establish right away in the first meeting the only rule for the team: “Don’t do anything that’s detrimental to yourself, because if it is detrimental to you, it will be detrimental to our program (Krzyzewski, 2000, p.4). He reiterates that leaders must be very selective in this process, because the people you select represent you as the leader, and your company. In some cases leaders must sacrifice some skill and talent for people who have outstanding character. “Character and respect will outlast talent when talent can’t see past themselves.” Krzyzewski mentions that he will sign a kid who has the character of a leader and train them to gain the skill necessary down the road. I believe that this is why the Duke Men’s basketball program is very successful because he picks
In all of the years that the game of pro football has been played there have only been twenty-two coaches that have made it into the hall of fame which means that they have done a significant amount of work in the coaching industry and made a huge impact on the game (Positions). The strategies that they have used to be such a great coach must have been incredibly good. A lot of people wonder what the strategies to coach a football team and strategies that famous coaches have used to be a successful coach are. Two of the most well-known coaches are Vince Lombardi and John Madden; they were the best coaches to ever coach the game in people’s opinion because their play strategies were so incredibly good. They had the best run plays and pass plays for offense. They also had the best defensive formations for defense, the man coverage, zone coverage, four three coverage, and the three four coverage. They had the best plays for both shotgun and pistol formation plays. They even had the best special team type plays from fake field goals to onside kick returns. John Madden and Vince Lombardi are the best National Football League coaches to ever coach in the National Football League because of all of these great plays that they used to get so high in the coaching industry. There are probably a lot more well-known and great coaches, but they have not done as much or close as what these two brilliant coaches have done to entertain the world in the game of football. Not only did they have the best play types and strategies to use, they both also had a great variety of players on their teams. If Lombardi was not as good of a coach as people say, then he would not have a trophy named after him for the team that wins the annual super bowl each ye...
