The Formation of the United Nations
Before the United Nations organization was formed we lived in a world of uncertainty where any misunderstanding could lead to a massive world war. Since the United Nations was formed, many issues have been resolved and a number of new groups have been created to make the world more peaceful. The United Nation's intentions are aimed for the future race of people. Their hope is that one day we can all set aside our differences and live together as one. Human kind has fought many wars over a variety of issues; however, the advent of a unified international organization has changed the world and set goals for humanity's future.
The United Nations was established in the aftermath of a devastating war to help stabilize international relations and give peace a more secure foundation. However, the beginning of this organization did not start off smoothly. The original establishment was named the League of Nations. Nevertheless, the League of Nations was unable to seek its purpose. The group's main goal was to promote general peace throughout the world. As Woog explained, the league's primary goal was to be able to sit down and discuss issues instead of battle (22). The league was weak mostly because the United States did not join the group and it also did not have its own troops. Thus it had no real power beyond moral and economic issues. The group was doomed for failure. It was not capable of promoting peace and there were small wars breaking out and a potential threat of another large war to come.
The League of Nations could do very little once the Nazis were victorious in the German elections. They could not halt Germany's open aggression and rearmament. By the mid-1930s the nations aba...

...red. The efforts of this world organization have improved global life for all of its citizens and will continue to do so for many years to come. We need to abide by the principles of the UN charter: maintain international peace and security, develop friendly relations among nations, cooperate in solving international problems, promoting respect for human rights, and to be a center for harmonizing the actions of nations if we wish to solve many of the problems facing our world today and for years to come.

every nation in the world belongs to the United Nations. The United Nations has four purposes: to maintain international peace and security; to develop friendly relations among nations; to cooperate in solving international problems and in promoting respect for human rights; and to be a center for harmonizing the actions of nations. The United Nations is not a world government though, and it does not make laws.
The League of Nations has been seen as a seriously flawed international organisation and its failure to prevent World War Two has been well documented. Provide something of an alternative perspective by identifying and highlighting important policy-areas in which the League made valuable progress.
In the First World War approximately 16,543,185 people were killed within the four year span (World War I Casualties 4). After this devastation countries from all over the world gathered in France for Peace Conferences. Their goal; to prevent anything reminiscent of what had happened during the Great War from ever occurring again. It was during these conferences that the League of Nations (LON) came into existence. Their first meeting was held on the sixteenth of January 1920, six days after the Versailles Conferences had come into effect (MacMillan 94). The League showed a serious attempt by many countries throughout the world at international cooperation, and offered the idea of a collective, global, security. The LON was to act as a governing body in the post WWI landscape for all states, offering them security and the hope of peace continued world peace. The League’s aspirations were outlined in its covenant, which was divided into twenty six different articles. All of the member counties had to agree the articles outlined in the Covenant, “in order to promote international co-operation and to achieve international peace and security” (The Covenant of the League of Nations 1). However, the League failed in this goal, as only twenty years after its creation World War Two broke out. By this point the League was an absolute and utter failure, and considered to be irrelevant by the majority of the world’s powers. Despite the fact that it had been created to prevent another World War, a much worse one broke barely two decades after its creation. One of the many problems with the League, and a reason for its breakdown, was with the countries themselves, and how it was run internally. The failure of the League of Nation...
With the conclusion of the First World War the League of Nations was founded in the Treaty of Versailles on June 28, 1919. It was the first intergovernmental organization that would keep peace and settle world disputes.
The failure of the League of Nations in its job to maintain peace quickly showed nations that a new organization should be created to prevent destructive wars like the First and Second World War. One of the major flaws of the League of Nations was the United States Senate refusing to become a member of the League of Nations even though it was President Woodrow Wilson’s idea for the League to be formed. With lack of US intervention the League of Nations had no real power, especially with its policy of collective security as a tool to maintain global peace. The problem with collective security was its lack of global powers.“The United S...
...helped the invasion of Russia in the Russo-Polish War. Later on, one of the primary powers in the League of Nations, France, invaded Ruhr. Instead of preserving the peace, they began their own war by invading Germany’s industrial region, Ruhr. This seemed to the outside nations that the League of Nation broke its own rules and contradicted its self. Lastly, and for most, in 1923 during the Abyssinian crises, the League was unable to enforce its decisions, but changed it for the favor of the Italians the aggressors in the war; which made it lose its credibility to other nations in the world. In hand it was unable to successfully complete its first test in its examination of effectiveness in aiding their first country in need of help, Vilna; but allowed the polish to remain in Lithuania and showed the world how weak power and military wise the league of nation was.
1. As far as peace keeping methods go, the reputation of the United Nations is very pitiable. This is not only because they have not been doing their job to it’s fullest extent, but also because the member states on the security council haven’t given the UN the power it needs if it is to be a successful force in peace keeping methods.
Now the League of Nations was pretty dumb and should not have been made considering it never worked out and everybody was mad about it all the time. The league actually may have led to the start of WWII because of how bad it was. The league sounded good and everybody thought it was an amazing idea; however, it turned out really bad and never did anything it promised. In Woodrow Wilson’s speech “The League of Nations” he had hoped to convince the senate to join the League of Nations but was rejected and the league never really worked out.
The national body met for the first time in 1920. The league of nations held its first meeting in a Swiss hotel. A new era was beginning. Not a lot of people joined. The league of nations believed they could help the world by having open discussions and tried to stop the threat of war but couldn’t. Everyone was affected. There were millions of signatures to banish war, then the Germans hired a new leader...adolf hitler. Then more war happened. But something amazing happened and demand peace by reason. “Words cannot describe the feeling of winning this war”. The crowds from the world war 1 winning was absolutely huge.
The United Nations Organisation was founded on 24 October 1945 with 51 member states and this number has since grown to 192 Member States. The UN was founded to bring all nations of the world together to strive for peace and development based on the principles of justice, human dignity and the well being of all people. It is made up of 6 principle organs: Trusteeship Council, Security Council, General Assembly, International Court of Justice, Economic and Social Council and Secretariat.
Though the League of Nations prevented the out break of war among some nations, it had many failures as well. It’s biggest failure was containing all the world’s major powers. The first issue they faced was that the country whose president came up with the idea of the League of Nations, refused to join. The prestige of the League of Nations was greatly effected because America was one of the most powerful states. Another weakness of the league was that Germany was not allowed to join because they were the reason the war started. Since Germany was not able to join, they lost out on whatever strength Germany had against aggressor nations. Russia was also not allowed to join because of their communist government. This left the League of Nations without the support of the three most powerful nations and would only leave them to enforce economic sanctions on the nations. (Darity 385-386)
However, the main purpose of The League of Nation in preventing acts of aggression was only to preserve the existing state of affair established by the many treaties after the First World War. The League of Nation, failed to serve its purpose as it failed to prevent aggression from Japan, Italy and Germany due to the lack of enforcement from the major powers such as the United States. The first major failure was their inability to stop Japan invasion of Manchuria. The League of Nation condemnation of Japan for their action had no effect and powerless as it only led to the withdrawal of the Japan from the League of Nation (“Appeasement”, 2014). The second failure was Italy’s successful invasion of Abyssinia and China. Although there were economic sanctions given to Italy, it had no effect in deterring Italy from conquering Abyssinia and only further proved the ineffectiveness of the League of Nation (“Appeasement”, 2014). The third failure was Hitler’s breach of the Treaty of Versailles. Hitler remilitarized Germany in March of 1935. Due to the British and French government’s passion for maintaining peace, they only
The League of Nations was an international organization to provide a forum for international disputes. It was president Wilson’s idea, and it was made after the World War One. The League of Nations was made to remain peace, and sometimes it failed, but on the other hand, she had achievements and successes. It helped many sick, poor and homeless people. In the following essay, I will develop the things that went wrong, her failures, and the things that went right, her achievements and successes.
The UN has made strides toward and continues to fight for world peace, but this however is not the only function of the agency. Environmental protection, Human rights, health and medical research, alleviation of poverty and economic development, emergency and disaster relief, and labor and workers' rights are just a sample of what the UN continues to battle as the year 2000 approaches.
Many of you might have heard of international organizations on the news. However, have you ever heard of an international organization that deceased in about 20 year? The organization that you might have never heard of before taking World History is the League of Nations. The League of Nations is the first permanent international security organization, which was formed in the reaction of WWI and the Paris Peace Conference and was established under Part 1 of Treaty of Versailles on 10 January 1920. The headquarters of League of Nation was located in Geneva, Switzerland. It was chosen to be in Switzerland because during the WWI, Switzerland was the country where it stayed neutral and did not fight in the WWI. Other countries did not go against
