The teaching context I have chosen for my work in this class is Spanish. Spanish would
be taught as a foreign language for second and third grade students in an Elementary School in
the United States. However, it is important to point out that there is diversity of cultural
backgrounds, (some students are from India, China, and Korea, etc…) but all of them speak
English. The proficiency level of the target language will be a beginner, though the students have
been already exposed to the target language since they have had Spanish instruction since kinder.
The students will get forty-five minutes of instruction once a week. There will be about sixteen
(16) students in each class. The students’ age would be between 7-9 years old. The language
instruction will be given during their regular school days.
The school will provide the Sonrisas Curriculum to teach Spanish, which comes with a
CD of Spanish songs in relation to the lessons. However, I will have the freedom to bring and
make my own materials depending on the lesson and the students’ reading and writing abilities.
Furthermore, instrumental and integrative motivation may vary among the students, because the
class will not allow students to leave the classroom if they do not like the target language. I will
keep in mind that at this young age students’ likes and dislikes about a certain class may vary
according to the lesson activity or the students’ mood.
In this paper, I will discuss my ideas and beliefs about teaching according to my teaching
context. These ideas and beliefs have been influenced by different factors such as my personal
experience as an English language learner, my past teaching experiences, my personality, values,

believe it is very important to take into consideration all of the principles mentioned above in
order to help students reach their potential when learning a new language.

In 1950, only 13% of China’s population lived in cities (Seto, n.d.). Post 30 years, one hundred-million people moved to large cities from rural areas in China. This migration was considered the largest migration in human history. To compare this migration to western cities, the example of Shenzhen is used. For a Western city to have a population of three million to increase to ten million, it takes about a hundred years. 30-year old city, Shenzhen on the other hand made this population increase in just a decade (qtd. Caughey and Dawn). Today, over 53.7% of its population lives in cities; by 2020 it is projected that a whole 60% of the population will live in cities (Xinhuanet, 2014).
Nietzsche's The Will to Power is really a collection of his personal notes from 1883 to 1888. They were published in 1901 by his sister only a year after he died. Going on my school trip to New York City made me aware of these cultures changes and when are plane landed back in Minnesota I was so thankful to be back to the places and faces I had always been used to.
The role of women in religious scripture dictates an inferior position in society. Beginning with the creation of Adam and then Eve, as his helpmate. Her purpose was that Adam would not be lonely. It was started off as just a Bar-B-Q that served just twenty items. Its first mascot was named “Speedee” They eventually realized that by setting up their kitchen like an assembly line that they could be much more productive and get their food done faster, with every employee doing a specified job; the restaurants production rate became much higher. A milkshake machine vendor came into their small restaurant one day, his name was Ray Kroc. He saw how much potential the restaurant has, so he bought it out and opened one of the first franchises. Within the first year of Ray Kroc buying it, there were one hundred and two locations all around the world. McDonalds currently is one of the largest fast food restaurants in the world and currently has served over sixty four million customers through one of their thirty two thousand sites. It has almost become a way of life for America. Though, McDonalds started off as a small business between two brothers, it grew into one of the largest restaurant franchises in the world and greatly affects our society and how we eat our food.

Edith Hamilton, "recognized as the greatest woman Classicist", says that the Bible is the only book before our century that looked to women as human beings, no better nor worse than men (Tanner). However, it cannot be said that this book was consistently favorable to women. Maybe not absolutely, but conditionally in personal opinion, the Bible shows numerous examples of a woman’s inferiority to men, an assessment that has been translated into the cultures of generations. In this essay I will address briefly instances in the bible pertaining to women, and continue on with thoughts on how I believe these notions have been interpreted into society.
The stories about women in the bible illustrate the importance of their role and contribution to society. Women were slaves, concubines, and child bearers; they were also wives, matriarchs, and prophets. Although, some women had less important titles than others each served a purpose. Even if the Bible does not explain God’s relationship with women as with Moses and other prophets, it illustrates the love and dedication women had for Him. The scriptures describe brave, nurturing, and God fearing women whose decisions impacted the existence of the Israelites.
Mrs. Santer’s classroom is just what you would expect a world language classroom to look like: colorful! The walls are covered with the flags of various Spanish-speaking countries, some that she has bought and others that students have made. She has colorful decorations draped along the back wall that might make one think they are walking into a Mexican fiesta. Maps of all of Latin America—South America, Central America, Spain, North America—are displayed as is a world map with the Spanish-speaking regions highlighted in red. She also has memorabilia from various Latin American regions showcased throughout the room—handicrafts, blankets, and wooden instruments.
In 2009, teachers of a New Jersey school banned foreign languages and stated, “any language other than English will not be tolerated" (Debaron 1). This situation was soon no longer allowed. While over ten percent of the total adolescent education systems contain emergent bilinguals, a whopping sixty percent of those students are educated in only English (Bale). Maria Estela Brisk, a Boston College Education professor, believes, “schools has wasted much energy in the search for a "perfect" model and the best way to learn English” when they could just focus on proving “quality education” to every student in the system (1). Teacher’s main priority should consist of effectively teaching their students to prepare them for the future, but currently there are a lack of certified bilingual education teachers.
