Personal Narrative Losing Weight
I know I should lose weight. It requires a lot of perseverance that I one time had and need to find again. Many of the reasons I should lose weight are very clear to me. I have read many articles and have heard what my doctor has told me. I lost over forty pounds about three years ago, unfortunately, I gained it back two fold when I was pregnant with my daughter. I still have not been able to get rid of this weight since she was born. Sometimes it causes me to get tired just from going to the grocery store. I also found out in September of last year that I have hypertension (high blood pressure) which effected my vision drastically by the following November. Other problems are social such as the way some people look at me in public and the way I view myself. Three the possible effects of losing weight would be gaining energy, better health, and having a better physical appearance.
One of the immediate effects of losing weight for anyone is usually gaining energy. When I get that extra boost of energy that I have not felt in a while, it is a most wonderful experience. I am able to get things done at home that I have been procrastinating about for weeks and sometimes months. It would be marvelous to have that driving force almost everyday just because I lost some weight. Without a doubt, I would use the extra energy to exercise so I could lose more weight and gain more energy. There are so many things that I would love to do with my family, but I only have so much stamina to do them now. I would be able to look at myself in the mirror and be proud of myself for having the willpower to lose the weight. If I do not lose this weight, I may someday lose the ability to enjoy the things that I still have the energy to do now. What if I get diabetes or lose the ability to walk because my joints have given out on me? With all the positive effects of losing weight and all the negative effects of being fat staring me in the face, I need to put my best effort forward and lose this weight. It is not the time to act and stick to it. I not only want to gain better health, energy, and look better by losing weight; I want to gain the freedom from the heaviness it has created in my heart.
Currently my weight, according to health standards, is unhealthy and qualifies as being obese. Obesity is defined as an individual having a high amount of extra body weight, which is not from muscle and bone, but rather excess fat . Being obese puts me at a higher risk for developing weight related health issues, such as high blood pressure, heart disease and some forms of cancer(“Assessing Your Weight”, 2015). The weight related risk increase, along with genetic risk factors for developing diabetes, encourages me to pursue a change in my current

When a wrestler reduces calorie intake, it can affect what the rest of the family eats as well. Weight loss in wrestlers can also affect their families because wrestlers usually like to isolate themselves when cutting weight. As previously stated, when a wrestler severely reduces calorie intake, they tend to get irritable and have a poor attitude about certain things. According to Clarke Brown, a wrestler usually does not want to socialize, so they might just go up in their room and not want to talk to anyone. When cutting weight, a wrestler is in his own world at home and likes to isolate himself from the rest of his family. Weight management in wrestling can affect the family as well as the wrestler.
Obesity means having too much body fat. It is not the same as being overweight, which means weighing too much. Someone may be overweight from extra muscle, bone, or water, as well as from having too much fat. (Bing health). Obesity is a major problem that is occurring in parts all over the world. Currently, the fattest nation is America . Many people are overweight because the do too little or no exercise at all. This is especially true in countries like America, where as people are bombarded by fast food stores on virtually every corner. Obesity can not only cause health problems, but as well mental ones. Obese people may think of themselves as a useless human being because they are too fat and can’t accomplish anything, because of their weight. Though this is incorrect, many people believe this and end up taking their life. In this paper we will describe the causes of obesity and ways to combat the “everlasting epidemic.”
Four months ago in May, I began my fitness journey. Now let me be completely honest, I wasn’t a first timer at all, and I was not where near a professional. I was that person that seriously began one every new year and never ever kept to it. My thoughts were that by summer I would be fit and toned, but we all know that when summer rolled around that was not the feeling. My weight was a constant yo-yo, it ranged something like this 125, 120, 118, 122, 119, or 124. It was never the same for long. Then the worst happened in January of 2015, my ACL decided to give along with my meniscus. I then had surgery by February and no walking until April. THREE months in bed!! Growing up my parents ran a little lake on the outskirts of my hometown of Shelbina here in northeast Missouri. I was the "tough" one out of my family by the time I was in the ninth grade I could use two weed eaters at the same time and pick up the back end of a golf cart. At 5'3 and wearing size 16 I was big girl and was often made fun of by my peers. I wanted to be something other than the "fat girl" at school. So I became stronger than an ox and used that to my advantage. My high school coach seen me one day bench pressing a picnic table and begged me to join the weightlifting program. I excelled at the class and became known as "Pipes" I went from being the chunky girl to being the girl that was respected for my bench pressing and squats. My coach believed in me and that was all I needed to continue to do my best. That year I made a C average except for weightlifting where I got an A and earned the respect from my peers and my coach.
The obesity problem in America is out of control and something needs to be done. Some may say that this problem is caused by the lack of cheap healthy food and the wide variety of cheap fast food. “More than one-third (36.5%) of U.S. adults have obesity.” (Adult Obesity Facts). This means that 88.5 million adults are obese in America. Obesity increases the risk of serious health problems. This can include high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, cancer, sleep apnea, and a increase risk of having a stroke just to new a few. Those who body mass index surpass 40 have a life expectancy of six and a half years less than that of a person who has a normal body mass index (Los Angeles Times). I started lots of diets, working out, and skipping meals. I would drink only non-fat liquids all day (mostly water). I would get very hungry, but I didn’t eat. That whole semester was all about getting skinny. I would weigh myself every day and look in the mirror continuously. My behavior changed a lot. I would binge eat in anger and then vomit it all later. I was very irascible. No one wanted to be my friend for being fat and cruel. I was worried and struggled a lot with my weight loss. Susie is a 51-year-old female. She is 5’5” and weighs 202 pounds. Susie has always struggled with her weight and has tried several fad diets over the years only to end up gaining more weight in the end. Even though exercising for 120 minutes and eating a little healthier may not seem like it would help improve your health, a little bit of exercising and a little change in eating habits can go a long way. Doing these things can help control your weight, reduce the risk of some diseases like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and cancer, and improve your mood. I was tired of being overweight, feeling tired all the time, and I wanted to get my confidence back, I knew in order to do that I would have to make a lifestyle change. I had no prior knowledge of health and nutrition, so I wanted to increase my knowledge of the basic areas of health and wellness to implement in my daily lifestyle. My hope was to create a strategy that could be implemented in my daily life that could give me a solid base for starting my weight loss
Eating is important to survival of humans. Humans need to consume food on a daily bases to intake protein, sodium, vitamins,etc. Over the years since the 20th century the rate of obesity has grown and is still growing, it is a problem in the US. Many people like me overeat and eat the wrong stuff and don’t workout to burn all those calories. The amount I eat is what I hate about myself so much because all that I eat goes in my body and stores the food as fat which grows on my body and I don’t feel or look good. This is why I chose to change this part of my lifestyle, I need to change myself for the better.
Christmas eve ended with me crying on our living room floor because my mom wanted me to eat just one of her famous sugar cookies. Her cookies had always been one of my favorite Christmas traditions, but this year when I looked at the cookies, all I could see were calories and guilt. They smelled and looked delicious, but just the thought of taking one bite filled me with anxiety and fear. I consider this the moment I realized my eating disorder had completely taken over my life. I had become obsessed with calories and weight as a way to feel in control of my life and gain confidence. In reality, my eating disorder had slowly stripped me of my independence, health, and happiness. After that Christmas, I finally decided to seek help after months of struggling, and at the age of 17, I began an intensive outpatient treatment program.

As soon as you have convinced yourself that you are committed to becoming healthier, losing some weight will be an added bonus. Clean out the fridge and cupboards to get rid of all the stuff that taste yummy but is bad for your health. This includes chips, ho ho’s, cookies and soda’s. I know it is hard to get rid of but you need to have fruit and vegetables instead. Also quit eating foods that contain sodium. The sodium will cause water retention, which means you will be bloated.
Adding exercises into one’s daily routines can change their whole lifestyle. Many people look at exercise as being something just for people who want to lose weight or to become muscle bound, but there are a great deal of benefits that can be received from exercising regularly. Of course gaining muscle and losing fat are the two most popular reasons that usually attract people to the gym, but they make up a small part of the potential benefits that can be achieved with exercise. There are several ways in which I have benefited in my life from exercising regularly, besides just making me bigger and stronger. It has made me become more organized, helped me make better decisions, and motivated me to take on new challenges in life.
