It has gone through two world wars, and countless other wars like the Vietnam, Korean, and Gulf Wars. But in the economic sphere, the world is also joining together as the international economy becomes more and more important and as many nations are becoming extremely economically interdependent. Social concerns, such as racism, women's rights, and religious tolerance have continually evolved, especially in the United States where the last century witnessed the black-rights movement of the 1960's, the expanding role of women, and a fresh new tidal wave of immigrants.
