Strategies Designed to Motivate Employees
One of a manager's responsibilities is to inspire employees and
encourage them to strive for excellence and remain motivated even
during the difficult times. While this task is challenging, there are
measures a manager can take to generate enthusiasm in any working
environment. Although different people are moved by different desires,
values and goals, there are a number of generally agreed-upon
motivators to which most people respond.
The employees at Gullivers are de-motivated because of the poor
environmental conditions. The employees work alone for long periods of
time. This leads the worker to feel isolated. As well as this the
tasks that some employees carry out are repetitive and boring. This is
brought on by the use of a production line. The employees also work in
two day time shifts. The hours of these shifts might not be suitable
for some people, such as mothers. The times that shifts start and
finish might clash with school hour, leading to people coming in late
or leaving early.
F. W. Taylor developed the early idea that to motivate the worker you
have to pay him/her at the highest possible wage, through working in
the most efficient and productive manner. This approach was called the
rational-economic concept of motivation. Taylor believed if an
organisation first evaluated the job to be done. Then came up with the
best way to do each stage of that job. The lastly put the people in
the right place to then carry out that job effectively. So the job
would be completed in an efficient, producing more profit, which would
lead to higher wages. Taylor believed that this alone wo...

Maintaining a highly motivated staff is key to a company's success. A
lack of employee enthusiasm can alter your company's productivity, and
ultimately, your bottom line. There are several factors which effect
motivation. A combination of techniques that matches the unique needs
and personalities of your employees will bring the most effective
results. However any measures taken is only effective as far as the
employee is willing to be motivated.

Every person has a motivating factor that makes them go to work. Some people go to work for the paycheck or the benefits, others go to work for the social aspect or experience, these are incentives. Incentives are the most common motivating factor for people to complete tasks. This is also called, work motivation. Work motivation is defined as “A force that drives people to behave in a way that energizes, directs, and sustains their work behavior” (Steers, R. M., Mowday, R. T., & Shapiro, D. L., 2004). In contrast to the benefits of incentives, incentives are commonly counterproductive because they undermine the intrinsic motivation of an individual, this is the overjustification effect.
Employee Motivation Employee motivation is a key factor within a successful organization. or business. The quality of work that people express is often a result. of the motivation they possess. Companies have a variety of ways to motivate their employees, as well as keep them satisfied.
Every human being needs motivation now and then. Incentives and recognition programs can support you in helping your employees become happier and more productive at work. As a leader, one of the main things to think about is how to recognize an employee for a performance that has exceeded expectations, objectives and goals. Therefore, I would like to introduce you in this paper to some ideas that hopefully would promote this method as one of the main priorities in today's and tomorrow's workplace.
The company motivates employees by providing “reward” and “engagement”. Reward is evaluating the employees properly and giving reasonable salary, and are divided into three parts:
When reading “hope beyond the budgeting model” I felt that there was a redundancy in asserting the theory that goals should not be set because they only provide employees with the motivation to do the bare minimum to reach the set objective. The main focus in the article was to try to reward goals based upon performance compared to others within the company (yet still trying to advocate teamwork) and to competitors. An example would be basing the rewards package upon how much an employee’s success helped influence the company’s success in beating the benchmark they had against other competitors as well as against the previous year’s performance. It advocated the idea that if goals are set and used as the primary system for rewarding methods then two things will occur: (1) the employee realizes they cannot achieve the goal if it is too high and will decrease their performance due to the feeling of inadequacy in performance needed to reach the goal and receive the rewards, (2) the other side of the scale is that once they have reached the goal there is no incentive to work harder because there is no further compensation for doing so. Some of the other focuses on motivation were described in the Handelsbanken model of rewards. This banking company from Sweden concentrated on ideas such as aligning rewards with strategic goals, use clear transparent measurements, reward performance of teams, as well as a few others. Their argument is that if employees don’t focus on a set accomplishment line then they can worry less about achieving what they must to meet that line and focus primarily on team work, performance, and contributing to company success and as a result will reap the benefits in the end. Further arguments supporting this model...

This research paper will focus on whether there is any relationship between employee’s productivity motivation in the workplace, does the productivity of an employee increases when they are appraised by acknowledgement and treatment or does an employee become more efficient in the workplace because of monetary compensation? This paper will help understand where does the motivation of an employee derive from and whether employers should be wanting to pay more attention to the way that they direct their employees, we will find out from this research paper if employees are more productive and efficient when they are compensated and when they are recognized for their work and dedication or if there are just some employees that no matter
Leadership is a quality found among many, but a true leader goes above and beyond the task at hand. A true leader guides, motivates, and inspires others to achieve their greatest potential. When I was fifteen years old, I got my first job as a greeter at a local restaurant, The Chophouse. The Chophouse provided me with many opportunities to not only develop as an employee, but grow as a leader.
Any company should always strive for the best to keep their employees motivated and active in the workplace. Paula Leech, Microsoft Dubai Manager stated that, “A great place to work is where there is trust between leaders, management and employees, where people are known to be open...I think it is also critical that people enjoy what they do and be themselves in a connected welcoming and fun way.” Microsoft has done the following to keep their employees motivated. One of the things that Microsoft did to keep their employees engaged was to involve them in the big moments. Microsoft holds an annual meeting in the stadium in Seattle but employees elsewhere felt left out. Microsoft bought 27 influential employees to its meeting.
In today’s digital world, employment has become much easier to find. Gone are the days of buying newspapers, looking over countless job ads, mailing in resumes, and waiting days for a response. Anyone can access employment sites such as monster.com, indeed.com, or snagajob.com and find their dream job. The specificity of job search engines have made it easy to find a particular job in a particular field, click the submit resume button to apply for it, and move on. Tens or even hundreds of jobs can be applied for in no time at all. All of this makes it very easy for a disgruntled employee to easily obtain employment elsewhere. Companies must work much harder to attract and retain competent employees.
Motivation is an important concept which is critical for understanding of and improvement in organizational behaviour and performance. It is therefore important for the managers to understand motivation. It is an important tool which they can use to get more out of their employees and increase organizational performance. Motivation can be defined as the factors, both internal as well as external which arouse in individuals the desire and commitment for a job (Mele, 2005, p. 15). Organizational performance on the other hand refers to the degree to which the organizational objectives have been achieved.
Employee performance defines the individual performance and behavior. It is essential to understand that performance is not merely a tasks and work need to be done to receive bonus or pay increase. Main objective is to enhance the skills set of an individual while helping the business performance (Baker, 1999).
Dwight D. Eisenhower once said, “Motivation is the art of getting people to do what you want them to do because they want to do it.” Studies have found that high employee motivation goes hand in hand with strong organizational performance and profits. Therefore, managers are given the responsibility of finding the right combination of motivational techniques and rewards to satisfy employees’ needs and encourage great work performance. This becomes a bit more challenging as employees’ needs change from one generation to another. Three of the biggest challenges a manager faces in motivating employees today are the economy and threats to job security, technological advances, and company cultures that primarily focus on the bottom line.
Ability in in turn depends on education, experience and training and its improvement is a slow and long process. On the other hand motivation can be improved quickly. There are many options and an uninitiated manager may even know where to start. As a guideline seven strategies for motivation.
Employee motivation has always been a concern for leaders and managers. One of a manager’s main priorities has to be getting things done through their employees, and that’s where employee motivation comes in to play. Motivation is accurately described as the desire to do things. (What) Motivation is the difference between waking up before dawn to pound the pavement and being lazy around the house all day. Motivation is also what encourages an employee to go above and beyond the call of duty, whatever that may happen to be; an expressed benefit of the employer. It is a crucial element in setting and attaining goals for success.
