The aim of this work is write a presentation of health care system in three countries. One of the countries must be Finland, one must be developing country and one must be developed country. In addition to Finland I want to do presentation about Guyana (developing country) and England (developed country). The reason I chose these countries for my presentation is that they have slightly different health care system than we do in Finland. I have also personal interest in the Guyana and their health care system. I know personally someone who is from Guyana and I want to become familiar with their culture and health care system. Another country I chose for my presentation was England. The reason why I chose England is that I don’t know the health care system they use at all. Guyana is located nearby Venezuela, Suriname and Brazil and the country belongs to a North America. People in Guyana speaks English, it is specially country in North America for that reason. Caribbean community and Guyana are very close to each other. Guyana´s governance works with democratic principle. Westminster system of government is nearly linked to the Guyana´s government system. The government of Guyana consists of administrative regions (10 pieces) and the local government. The local government is divided into Amerindian Village Councils (76 pieces), municipalities (6 pieces), Neighborhood Democratic Councils (65 pieces) and Regional Democratic Councils (10 pieces). Abundant natural resources (including a fertile and productive soil, water resources caused by many rivers) are very important for Guyana´s economy. (WHO, Country cooperation strategy.) England is located in United Kingdom. In England governance is based on constitutional monarchy. These concerns relate to the HIV/AIDS, malaria and sanitation and water solutions. (Health in the Americans 2007, 406.) One big different I found, is the 5 levels health care system in Guyana, in England and Finland we have primary and secondary health care system. The biggest differences I found about that in Guyana they don’t have a national health insurance system at all. In Finland and England we have some kind national health insurance. Instead of national health insurance they have the national insurance scheme and that operates a social insurance program for employees. Participation in the Scheme is mandatory for employed persons between the ages of 16 and 60, also self-employed. (Health in the Americans 2007, 406.)
Jamaican heath care is very poor. There is only one small hospital for every parish. There are about three dozen hospitals or clinics on the island, but most are not reliable because of the violent crimes that consume the hospitals and most are overpopulated. Because of this, most people die at young ages.
Neighboring countries, United States and Canada have close ties to one another, share the same language and have many of the same fundamental and religious beliefs. It is an interesting debt as to which provides a superior healthcare system. In order to better understand the strengths and weakness of the two systems, this paper will review four important structural and functional elements of each system.
Guyana, South America is South America’s monarch. It is located on the northern border of South America and is also part of the Anglophone Islands. After Jones and his flock moved to this country, he started a cult. He named this the Peoples Temple. They were located in the jungle of Guyana. In this community, Jones proclaimed that all men, except for him, were homosexual. He...
The increase and changing demography in the United State today, with the disparities in the health status of people from different cultural backgrounds has been a challenge for health care professionals to consider cultural diversity as a priority. It is impossible for nurses and other healthcare professionals to learn and understand theses diversity in culture, but using other approaches like an interpreter is very helpful for both nurses and patients. In this paper of a culturally appropriate care planning, I will be discussing on the Hispanic American culture because, I had come across a lot of them in my career as a nurse. The Hispanic are very diverse in terms of communication and communities and include countries like Mexico, Cuba, Puerto Rico, South and Central America, and some of them speak and write English very well, some speaks but can’t write while some can’t communicate in English at all but Spanish.
Applying a suitable model of health to each individual situation will provide the best outcome. This was evident in the case study discussed in the essay. Rodney’s experiences within the medical world ended with a positive and desirable result, but if the appropriate transcultural care was not given, that positive result would have created a negative outcome, which could have been detrimental to Rodney’s future health. This shows the significance that health care workers can have on patient care.
The issue of a universal approach to Canadian Health Care has been contended for several years. Canada's national health insurance program, or Medicare, was designed to ensure that all people can have medical, hospital and physician services. The cost is to be paid for by Ontario medical insurance program (OHIP). The Canada Health Act was intended to represent certain principles of our health care system. It was intended to be a symbol of the Canadian values. Those values are fairness equity and togetherness. This oneness of a universal approach is what we call the one tier system. Many Canadians still believe the official government stand on this: Canada’s medical insurance covers all needs and services for every insured citizen. Officially then, there is a one level health care system. This paper shall argument that Canada has a two tier health care system.
Going to a different country or area of the world can open up anybody’s eyes to see that culture makes a huge impact on the understanding and practices of healthcare that seem to be so common to other areas of the world. When a person lives in one country their whole life, that person may not realize how different the life they live is from someone in a foreign country. If a person is going to receive treatment from someone with a different cultural background, they should be expected to get treatment to respects their own culture. Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences having such a diverse variety of students has their own cultural competency definition that states “effectively and comfortably communicate across cultures with patients of differing backgrounds, taking into account aspects of trust in order to adopt mutually acceptable objectives and measures”. In the book Dancing Skeletons: Life and Death in West Africa by Katherine Dettwyler, the issue of culture and healthcare are greatly prevalent. Katherine Dettwyler herself goes to West Africa as an anthropologist and her horizons are broadened when during her research she comes in contact with how much culture has an impact on healthcare and everyday life.
Healthcare systems are put in place so that they can meet and satisfy the healthcare needs of a people within a geographical area. They have the mandate to deliver healthcare services to the intended group or population and ensure fair...
The health care industry is positioned for the global market place. It is expected to grow exponentially in health-related services for the elderly. China’s population of individuals over sixty years old is expected to grow to one third in the next twenty-five years. Though their culture view aging somewhat differently than in United States, they are interested in the attractive senior living options established here. Senior care encompasses private care facilities, home health care, products, drugs and medical equipment. As the largest health care market in the world American companies have made significant global inroads over the last two decades. These businesses are positioned to offer additional services directed at retirees, and children who will be responsible for their parents and potentially their grandparents as well.
How does geography delay development in Guyana well that is something that this country cannot change. Even though it is culturally related to most Caribbean nations such as Grenada, Jamaica and Trinidad its location makes it seem as if it is not apart of that culture. As a result of that there is a limited participation in trading with the international community including other Caribbean nations. Guyana is located south of the caribbean and on the northern tip of South America this location delays its economic growth because the other caribbean islands are near their trading partners which helps them control their imports and exports. Another factor is that there the development for major roads that will link Guyana to its neighbors Venezuela and Brazil has been fulfilled yet. There only discussion about it but no one has sat down and plan what to do. Another delay in development for Guyana is its poor infrastructure which also stunts its economic growth, this happens because it has to be replaced and repaired and this such construction produces jobs and gives contracts to outside companies to grow and rebuild. The only issue with that is that there may not be enough money to rebuild so it usually takes a very lo...
A cultural assessment interview is very important when taking care of patients or their families who may be from a different culture than the nurse’s. In order to be able to better take care of a patient, we first need to know their own interpretation of disease and illness within their cultural context, values, and beliefs. Since I am Indian and my culture is a mix of the Indian cultural beliefs and my religion Islam, I was looking forward to this interview so that I am able to learn more about different cultures using my assessment.
Both Canadian and American health care systems have become a significant part of my culture. I have recently been diagnosed with two major ailments for which both countries hospitals have become dear to my heart. Without the use of both systems I firmly believe I would not be here today. There are many differences between the American and Canadian health care system, both of which I have used and have experience in. I will discuss their fundamental differences and give my opinion as to what aspects I like and dislike about each.
England’s government also has a few similarities with ours. Even though there government is a monarchy and ours is a republic. Their current leader is Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen of England is more of a symbol than a ruler. The actual ruler is a cabinet of people. The head of the cabinet is the Prime Minister. England also has a law making body, which passes all the laws. They are like our congress. The capital of England is London and the government buildings are located in a region of London call Westminster.

The healthcare industry of the Bahamas is divided into two sectors, public and private health care. There are five hospitals, which includes two private hospitals and three public hospitals, and numerous public community clinics along with the many private facilities through which medical services are rendered (Doctors Hospital, 2009). The Princess Margaret Hospital, which is the main public facility, according to Smith (2010), was people’s last choice when seeking medical attention. Smith described the hospital as being partitioned into four areas, “for the sick, indigent, lepers and insane” (Smith, 2010). Smith further expressed that the medical services were free and those that were financially stable paid for treatment to be carried out at their homes.
