When traveling to Spain on business, make sure you are prepared ahead of time because first impressions are essential to a successful business relationship in Spain. Start by brushing up on your Spanish. While there are some English translators available it will make a better first impression if you know the language. Also, in your speech use the more formal usted instead of tu’ unless invited to use the informal. Pay attention to what you wear to your business meetings and any personal parties they may ask you to attend. If you own designer business attire wear them, likewise, any accessories to accent your outfit will be noticed by your Spanish business associates. A nice scarf, watch, cufflinks, necklace, or designer handbag will give the impression that you have an eye for detail. Men should wear a nice dark colored suit with white button-up shirt and a silk tie to a formal business meeting while women should dress to highlight their feminine side. However, if you receive an invitation to a business casual meeting you dress like above with no tie.
