The Power of the Fuel Cells

Fuel Cells and their importance The high price of gas and the high demand of a substitute of the fossil fuels calls for a savior on the fuel or energy world. A savior who would come, and be something renewable, that can make up for the same performance a normal engine nowadays could give. Many options were given, however, the Fuel Cell, which may seem like a crazy idea, such as alchemy or atoms having feelings (which I don’t believe is true), could be a great option for this task. The Fuel Cell could become the next powering device for your entire house, or maybe what starts your next Ferrari, or Beetle. However it is important to learn of its history, how it works, its new innovations, and pros and cons to know what other advancements can be done to the fuel cell that may change the environment and make it better. The History of the Fuel Cell The Fuel Cell, however, is a complex machine to describe in one paragraph. The fuel cell needs detailed explanation history and its diagram. What is a fuel cell? A fuel cell is “an electrochemical device that converts chemical energy into electrical energy,” (Iovine, 2001). The Fuel Cell could be compared, in the same terms, with the battery, however, when the battery’s chemical energy runs out, the battery has to be taken away or recharged. The Fuel Cell on the other hand, “…by theory…will continue to generate electricity… as long as there is fuel,” (Iovine, 2001). This was discovered in the year 1839 when scientist Sir William Grove from England, was playing around with electrolysis. He thought that if in electrolysis you needed electricity to separate the components of water, then the reversed process should be able to create not only water, but electricity(FCTec.com, 2011). Gro... ... middle of paper ... ...a bit of a pro there, but the size and extremely complexity of this could take many years to engineer and it would be very expensive. Conclusion: However, despite the cons, the fuel cell seems like an exciting project to work on due to the high demand of “green” cars. It is also a great friendly-to-the-environment technology which can help out the green planet and save it from global warming. Works Cited • Motavalli, Jim. "Harnessing." E Magazine.
