Homeless teens are a very serious matter that’s going on in this world, teens aren’t
Eating right or don’t have anywhere to live and are just completely alone.
I believe that homelessness is a problem that can be solved. With up to 300,000
people across United States without a safe place to call home and an annual price tag that
exceeds $2 billion, governments can no longer afford not to invest in a lasting solution to this
country's housing crisis. Poverty and homelessness are a worldwide problem mostly found in
teens. Family conflict is the most common cause of all youth homelessness. For gay and
transgender youth, the conflict tends to be over their sexual orientation or gender identity, and
the results aren’t pretty: Half of all teens get a negative reaction from their parents when they
come out to them. More than 1 in 4 are thrown out of their homes. These teens have no one to
protect them and don’t have a lot of food to eat and they’ll just end up dyeing at a Very young
age. There are many suicides in the United States from teens who don’t even last two Years in
poverty. Most teens that are in poverty end up starving or freezing to Death because they have
No shelter or any money. Now in days teens can’t just get a job because they ask for a diploma
Or a GED and teens can’t afford to pay for a GED with no job. Also, Most Teens in poverty just
end up giving up and dropping out of school because they believe that it’s just a waste of their
time. So there is no chance of them getting a diploma any time soon. The poverty rate for people
18 and under increases more and more as the years go by. People are assuming that the
generations to come wont appreciate what they have and will take advantage...

Teens should just go to school and do the right thing. I understand it’s not their fault if they end
up in poverty but they should try their hardest to get out it. They might be born into poverty
because their family is so poor but just be grateful for what your able to get and that the people
who do talk down on homeless teens should at least try to help them have a better life. Teens just
have to pull through it and hope for the best and pray things don’t get worst because I know the
people in this world don’t care and won’t bother to help. But at least try to give them a better
future. For these teens better future to them is a life out of poverty.
These teens just need a important person in their life that will actually help them face
Life. There are many homeless teens and if we all help and chip in to help them we can make the
number decrease.
Although The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act is a program that guarantees education for the homeless youth population, many homeless do not receive the proper services they need because they are not aware of available resources (Heinze & Jozefowicz-Simbeni, 2009). Many homeless youths do not have a safe place to stay during the night or do not have any family or friends to rely on for support. In addition, approximately 7% of youth members in the United States are left without a home because of high dependence on an addictive substance or because they have been diagnosed with a mental health disorder (Heinze & Jozefowicz-Simbeni, 2009). Services that could provide shelter for the youth are often underused. Research in homeless youth
According to the Enhanced Surveillance of Canadian Street Youth, 1999-2003, the ratio of males to females street youth is about 2:1. The principal reason reported by street youth for leaving home was conflict with parents. The main source of income for most street youth was social welfare. Report of dropping out of school/ expelled permanently from school by more than 35% of street youth. “More than one-half street youth reported emotional abuse or neglect and about 15% of street youth reported their families had been homeless”.
I have heard stories from my friends that are horrible, especially considering they were all under 18 during these events within their lives. Therefore, I believe the homeless youth in our community need more attention due to their age and lack of confidence. For example, my boyfriend Alex was homeless when we started dating. All of his siblings were taken away separately from child services due to abuse, addiction and neglect within his family. He lived in a shelter where teens were using drugs, stealing and some were even into prostitution. I do understand that not all shelters are this way, but in his experience, he has lived in three different ones and all of them had some of these factors within them. I used to believe there were many options for the homeless, especially teenagers, but from my own second-hand experiences there are really not that many alternatives. “Sometimes it is safer to sleep on the street than some homeless shelters we came across”, suggests Alex Black, a former homeless youth. These shelters can be horrifying to the point that many teens, including Alex, run away. Society looks down on the homeless, creating a barrier surrounding our social structure, placing them at the bottom. Many people in our community believe it is not their place to help, some just are selfish or look the other way and keep on walking.“Whoever closes
In conclusion I think that our homeless problem could eventually be rooted out entirely if everyone were to take part in the care of their fellow neighbors. A few advertisements on the television and radio, a little push from our society's leaders and we would be off on the right track. That worked for the recycling program. Now we should try employing this idea for even better reasons and become a better society. I doubt that I will be around to see this idea in use all around the world, but I do hope that I can one day see it use here in New York. To assist all the homeless here in New York would be a very nice thing to see. The best part of it all would be to know what we, as a society, would be able to work together despite all the barriers created by racism and our native nature when it comes to other heritage's.
The youth homelessness population is increasing because of the many challenges that these children or teens face in everyday life; It also continues getting larger every year because of the many youth who are getting into dangerous situations that force them to be homeless or thru their own choosing. One third of the homeless population is between the ages of 16-24, which is incredibly young and it is the prime years for an adolescent or young adu...
Homelessness….. Many assume those who are homeless took part in some type of drug or alcohol abuse which lead them to become homeless. It is an ongoing situation that has not been fully resolved in order to lower the risk of individuals of the youth population becoming homeless. The age group for homeless individuals who qualify as youth is nineteen years of age and under. In the United States, dysfunctional families are occurring more frequent, which is a vital reason adolescents are running away from their homes. This alone puts many of our youth at risk of becoming homeless. When adolescents leave their homes, it decreases their chances of having a smooth transition into adulthood. Some adolescents may leave their home because
Gattis and Larson suggest, “interested parties could benefit from an improved understanding of the mental health needs of homeless adolescents. This knowledge could be used to identify youths at risk of becoming homeless and to provide appropriate services to those currently homeless” (p. 87). In short, education and knowledge regarding the homelessness in itself can do wonders. The homeless face many hardships including depression, anxiety, PTSD, discrimination, and suicidal thoughts. These are just a few things that homeless people face that the general population don’t take into consideration on a first glance or thought. Intervention and world of mouth will also help, because this is a topic society doesn’t necessary publicize, we don’t know much about it. If this is publicized in a positive way, the motivation and self-esteem from homeless people will also rise. The increase of access to insurance would also help prevent this. In order to get treated for any mental illness they have, they need insurance. With active treatment for a mental illness, this will heighten the likelihood of obtaining a reliable job. Which in turn, will essentially help prevent the homeless from being
Teenage runaways have different reasons for leaving home but all have the same reason for becoming homeless. They simply just do not have enough money. Others are drug and alcohol abusers and disabled people. With this list of people there must be some way that we can help these people.
Based off the attention from modern media, youth homelessness has been on an unfortunate upslope in the United States within the past decade. Various factors tie into why this issue is becoming more prominent such as low income households being unable to afford children, LGBT youth rejection, and domestic abuse leading to children leaving home. Now, vagrancy has a severely negative impact on the development of young people as it inhibits them from developing academically, socially, and mentally and can also expose them to diseases and potentially various types of abuse, such as sexual and substance abuse. This is an issue that should be addressed, for the rising generations are America’s future, and so investing in the overall well-being of the
The perspectives from transgender youth is critically missing in many discussion, research, intervention and implementation strategies. Transgender youth, are misunderstood, misrepresented and excluded from conversations, decision making, and policy execution when in actuality they should be involved. Shelton & Bond (2017) elucidates that although there is a growing body of research that examines LGBTQ youth homelessness, gaps in knowledge about the specific experiences of transgender and gender-expansive homeless youth remain. Studies focus largely on transgender youth in the context of the methods and measures in studies. Hence, including transgender youth within research on sexual minorities, rather than allowing them a distinct category of inquiry, can replicate the common misreading of transgender people as
These stunning factors are caused by job losses, financial situations, depression, family breakdown, mental illnesses, and isolation. Approximately 28,700 of those people are under the age of 18, and around 50,000 people under 25. The challenges these people face are extremely severe compared to Billy's challenges of homelessness. Within 2-3 days of being homeless, youth are sexually abused, and within 5 days, are using drugs and smoking.

elderly family members grants them the need to drop out of school. Sadly, when a situation like this
Teens today face a lot of pressure. Many students deal with difficult life situations that hinder them from focusing on their futures. This can lead to a loss of interest in school and school events, such as a sports, clubs, or after school programs. Teens start to prioritize other things over their education. Every year, over 1.2 million students will leave school without earning a high school diploma in the United States alone (“11”). That’s a student every 26 seconds – or 7,000 a day (“11”). The United States, which used to have the highest graduation rates of any country, now ranks 22nd out of 27 developed countries (“11”). Students may not realize that by dropping out of high school they are more likely to commit crimes, become parents at a young age, use and abuse alcohol and drugs, and live in poverty (“Drop”). Dropouts make up the majority of those
