The lab safety manger plays a very important part in the afficity of the facility. It should always be a priority the health, safety and security of the site. In the case study, Renee is dealing with many different issues in her company, Best Pet Test, Inc. The company deals with blood and urine samples and use PCR as one of their techniques. Renee has to investage the failures and offer suggestions on how to improve the state of the company. The company had many things wrong with it. Harold, the processor did not keep accurate records. There was no notation of how the company had been running. The samples weren’t being properly labeled. The samples were labeled with bar codes in order to track them. However, for the past year the bar code reader was broken. Thus the blood samples were being labeled manually. This was evident because the real-time PCR test for the presence of bacterial pathogen from the dog samples were inconsistent. Often many times the lab workers could also been seen in their lab coats outside the lab. This was incorrect because personal protective wear should be disposed of after use. The company also had chemicals in unlabeled bottles, as well overflowing Sharps containers. To make matters worse, laboratory waste had been found in an abandoned quarry. Due to the neglected of her coworkers, Renee now has to develop a business continuity plan. In this plan, she much remember to focus on site security and safety, hazardous waste management, and hazardous waste training.
