643 Words2 Pages

Pop culture is the modern lifestyle which is countenanced and recognized by society, the cultural patterns that are common within a population. The general opinion is that pop culture is a useful expression of society and the prevailing environment, as pop culture is the culture which is followed by the majority, and therefore reflects society.

The pop culture of a society is influenced by many aspects of society such as music, movies and modern technology. Modern day songs and movies promote ideas about drinking, smoking and clubbing, as well as the usage of appalling language. These are heard and seen by the teenagers of society, who then feel that it is acceptable for them to get drunk, and do what they know they should not be doing. An example of this is the 2009 movie of The Hangover, which, according to personal research, has been seen by 84.6% of teenagers. The pop culture has insinuated that in order for a movie to be comical, it needs to include alcohol, sex and bad language.

The effects of pop culture on teenagers are not all negative. In movies, it has become popular for some form of sport to be included. It is popular to support a soccer team, such as “Manchester United”, which is no longer just a soccer team. In conversation with Manchester United fans, it has become apparent that to them, Manchester United is their life, and they have a complete obsession for any Manchester United merchandise. This influences teenagers to do sport, which allows them to have fun with their friends in a healthy way.

This is proof that pop culture does have an influence on the youth of society.

There are very few schools that do not use a Shakespeare play as part of their studied set work. To this day, Shakespeare plays are staged, and modern versions of his plays have been made into movies.

It can therefore be concluded that pop culture does have a significant influence on society in various ways. Although the modern trends will continue to change, there are always going to be a few trends from each generation that will never fade. These are the trends which will have an impact on society forever.
