Pollution is a growing problem going on in today’s world. We pretend that it doesn’t exist but, it is slowly growing and taking over our planet and destroying everything in its path. How can we stop? There are certain groups and laws that are created to ensure pollution doesn’t escalate to the extreme. Air pollution is a silent killer, it lurks through our homes and surprises. There are designated agencies that are made to help combat pollution, setting regulations and making laws to protect the environment. Whether it is regulating car pollution, equipment or providing information to be better aware of increasing levels of pollution. Cars are a huge factor in air pollution, might not be the whole pie, but they’re a portion of the problem. …show more content…
Animals are the ones that are hit with this hard. When you’re overexposed to the sun, you get tired and don’t want to move around, but just stay around in one spot. Animals don’t feel any motivation to move and for farmer’s, this is devastating. If your livestock refuses to cooperate, you won’t be able to support your family, limiting the production, availability and fertility. Why should we care? We love to eat, and we have our favorite foods. If they’re lacking production, we won’t have access to much of it. It allows us to explore different types of foods, but deep down, we want our favorite dish. The USDA notifies farmers of these changes so they can be aware and be able to act on it quickly and not wait until it is too late. With excessive heat, certain crops won’t be able to grow or damage them. This can also bring unwanted animals that have never been able to live in that area. If crops are damaged, the lack of production for that specific crop will slow down. For example, Corn is a huge profit in today’s market, ranging from Penicillin, Starch, Sugar, Ethanol, Oil, and glue. If corn is slowed down for production, farmers will lose money and these products will seize to exist. Penicillin saves lives for diabetics and if they can’t have access to it, their health and their life will slowly
When we think of air pollution we think of the refineries in our cities and the exhaust coming from our cars mostly. In reality there are many more pollutants that we don't think about every day. The six most common air pollutants are; “Carbon monoxide, Nitrogen oxides, Sulphur oxides, Particulate matter, Volatile organic compounds, and Ground-level ozone (nitrogen oxide and Volatile organic compounds reaction)”(David Suzuki Foundation). The fact is people are dying from air pollution and we are doing nothing to make it better, in fact air pollution is getting worse.
My parents grew up in small town in Mexico. There was a little river that went through part of the town when they were growing up. Every weekend or so they would go out and would go swimming with their families, it almost became a tradition to go swimming there until they noticed that the river 's water level was becoming smaller and smaller. Today there is no river anymore, instead it 's a road that travels through the town. Every time I visit my family in Mexico it would alway be nice and warm up until this year when I went in December. I remember waking up and getting ready to go to my aunt 's house in clothes for warm weather. As I open the door, the cold air punch me and I saw snowflakes falling down. It 's not supposed to snow in that
Before a person can tackle handling the concept of global warming, they first must analyze the true definition of what it is. Climate change periodic modification of Earth’s climate brought about as a result of changes in the atmosphere as well as interactions between the atmosphere and various other geologic, chemical, biological, and geographic factors within the Earth 's system. (britannica) Since all 196 countries in the world have to share the oxygen and carbon dioxide, we all should take a part in the responsibility of taking care of earth. On November 6, 2012 President Obama said that we want our children to live in a world without the destructive power of a warming planet. The biggest challenge we face is not only saving a warming
Seventy year old Minnie has been working really hard after coming out of retirement from the past 5 years. Ever since Mickey died she needed a reason to be out of the house, and working as an entertainer where she sings at night is the only way she can provide for herself. And by working long hours from the evening to the night she doesn’t get the amount of rest she needs. She works harder than her body can handle and since she is surrounded by people that smoke her intake of second hand smoke is not measured, along with her smoking because of the stress. Over the past year her caffeine intake has also increased by drinking coffee to keep her running, and getting her job done.
Light pollution is one of the inevitable problems of the prosperous cities all around the world, including Hong Kong. The brightness of the night sky in Hong Kong is 82 times higher than the International Astronomical Union standard and the average night sky in urban is 15 times brighter than rural area (Daniel, Michael, Marina and Gregory, 2010), where Causeway bay, Tsim Sha Tsui and Mong Kok, are especially severe. Street lights, car headlights and advertising lights are the major sources of serious light pollution. In between, advertising lights are the easiest to be reduced while they impact on people’s lives the most. This essay will argue that advertising lights should be switched off after midnight to protect residents’ health and ecology.
The plants are not able to sustain the immense heat wavelengths from the sun, which results in decreasing plants, and if there are fewer plants to consume, then organisms that rely on them for their daily bread suffer the fear of extinction (Environmental Health Perspectives,
The world in which we live in at the moment has become poisonous. It has been poisoned by the human species’ daily survival activities. Humans around the world have taken for granted the daily impact that we have on the natural world. It all boil down to each and every breath that we take. Each and every breath that we exhale releases poisonous chemicals into the atmosphere. Until when our existence becomes absent, the world will remain poisoned.
Climate change. The two letter word so feared by scientists, so ignored by the average human being. What is it that makes scientists fear this phrase so much? For the concept of “climate change” has been seen throughout the history of the earths existence. For centuries, our climate has fluctuated through increasing and decreasing amounts of atmospheric carbon dioxide and climatic cycles. So what is the big deal? The problem, and the reason why this concept instills fear directly into the core of scientists is the rate at which over the past 1,300 years atmospheric carbon dioxide levels have risen. This unnatural increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide, due to the immense amount of anthropogenic burning of oil and coal, affects the transfer
In the U.S., the government implements smog standards that are to be met by cars every year. With the population increasing in the world, so do the cars that are being driven everyday, which means the pollution released by cars also increases. The amount of cars on the road are not a problem, the problem is the amount of pollutants released to the atmosphere by vehicles and the amount of natural resources it takes to power these vehicles. Therefore, not many regulations can be implemented by the government on how many cars there are on the roads worldwide, but what the government can do is create laws that make the car manufacturers create cleaner and better for the environment vehicles. The governments of the world are capable of many things,
Pollution is affecting many individuals and life, as we know it. We need to do something about how it’s affecting our world. That’s why I urge the issue that more people should realize that pollution is an issue that needs to be prevented because of its negative consequences. Which are health affects, the total destruction of environments, and the death of animals and plants. More awareness must be brought up amongst the people and they must realize the long-term benefits it has for the world.
Sulfates and nitrates that form in the atmosphere from sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides emissions contribute to visibility impairment, meaning we cannot see as far or as clearly through the air. Sulfate particles account for 50 to 70 percent of the visibility reduction in the eastern part of the U.S. Acid rain looks, feels, and tastes just like clean rain. The harm to people from acid rain is not direct. Walking in acid rain, or even swimming in an acid lake, is no more dangerous than walking or swimming in clean water. However, the pollutants that cause acid rain do damage human health. These gases interact in the atmosphere to form fine sulfate and nitrate particles that can be transported long distances by winds and inhaled deep into people
One of the biggest problems that people are faced with on a day-to-day basis is cigarette smoke. The sole cause for 480,000 deaths each year just in the United States is accredit to cigarettes(CDC). For a lot of the smokers the habit of smoking happens to assist them when under stress and dealing with issues that are unmanageable. Some smoke to appeal to their peers or simply because it “feels good.” Smoking one cigarette can lead to a major addiction. The effects of smoking hurt oneself and those amongst us. Smoking Kills as the ad portrays this revolver and cigarettes as the bullets, and also lists the side effects of smoking. Cigarettes causes cancer, increases the risk of you getting a stroke, highly addictive and causes a lot of health problems. Nearly 16
Even if the reason of climate change may be the natural cycles, we humans are the major determinant to it. The huge amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is causing the climate change and this amount is rising day by day, as a result of our actions. Greenhouse gases, like carbon dioxide, generally absorb and emit the heat in the atmosphere to keep the Earth’s climate habitable. However, as we continue to burn fossil fuels, this habitable Earth’s temperature will blow up, and as a result, some species will die out due to various problems which are caused by climate change. According to EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), the most obvious consequence of climate change is the rising sea levels, which will cause some seashore habitats to become unavailable to live to its species.
What do you think is the world’s largest cause of preventable deaths? Smoking? Poor diet? Blood pressure? It’s air pollution. (The Independent Co. 2014) Air pollution is such a huge environmental issue that kills many people and it’s often not even noticed. People can be effected by air pollution and not even be aware of it. Air Pollution is caused by biological materials, chemicals, particulates, or other harmful materials going into the earth’s atmosphere.
Every other day a new industries are being set up, new vehicles on roads and trees are being cut to make way for new homes. All of them, indirect way lead to increase in CO2 leads to melting of polar ice caps which increase the sea level and pose danger for the people living near coastal areas. Pollution can have an impact in our health not only affects people with impaired respiratory system such as asthmatics, but very healthy adults and children too. Exposure to pollution for 6 to 7 hours, even at relatively low concentrations, reduces lung function and induces respiratory inflammation and, healthy people during periods of moderate
