Topic: Political Violence In this class on “political violence,” we studied Pakistan. Why should we pay special attention to Pakistan? Explain why Pamela Constable calls her book, “Playing with Fire.” Since independence, while India moved toward a constitutional democracy, Pakistan, despite its early promises, is spiraling out of control toward a slippery slope. What are some the fundamental problems that have contributed to her journey backward? Special attention is given to Pakistan as it has become the main hub or safe haven for all terrorist groups and the second reason being the procurement of nuclear weapons and rocket technology from North Korea. Shahid Javed Burki elaborates on the problems faced by Pakistan that drives the nation in a backward manner. Some of the problems include fiscal imbalance, poor monetary system, weak financial system, domestic savings on a low, increasing debt, low investment rate, rapidly diminishing infrastructure, high growth in population, weak government, poverty on the rise and a non confident legal system. These problems are elaborated as follows: The primary problem of Pakistan has been the fiscal imbalance. The government has no proper governance and regulations managing the fiscal budget. The budget deficits as a result are on the rise bringing down the economy of the nation as a whole. Overall as a result of poor fiscal management practices the debt has increased considerably decreasing the economic growth rate as a whole with government borrowing a lot of money. The next problem is the poor monetary management with interest rates and inflation rates soaring up high. Pakistan government is printing money to solve these monetary deficits but this becomes a huge problem to man... ... middle of paper ... ...ers being joined in to the Al Qaeda with religion as their main cause. Al Qaeda has been in media recently influencing and asking people to join the holy war against US. United States and their influences in the Muslim regions is the main target of Al Qaeda group and this war against US will continue until the last American moves out of the Middle East province and every Muslim region across the world was the press statement released by the Al Qaeda. The recent reports also reveal that the Al Qaeda groups are very active and live in the online presence and have changed their communication mode to a new level with the use of technology that is harder for US intelligence to monitor and decode their plans. Middle East has been the hub and growing place for Al Qaeda and as seen in the earlier times, Al Qaeda will again rise as a result of these supporting factors.
