When it comes to law enforcement, people often feel that police officers should be held to a higher standard and be a trusted member within the community. Officers are supposed to live their lives by a certain code, which includes moral ideals such as professionalism, accountability, integrity, trust, commitment, and service. After all, the power that an officer is entrusted with once they have completed their training is tremendous and should not be taken for granted. We give the officer the power to infringe on people’s rights and the ability to take a life away if reasonably necessary. Foster was a trusted officer who worked for Fresno PD almost 30 years and had been the Deputy Chief of police since 2007. According to LA Times, “Foster was arrested March 26, 2015 on charges that he conspired to distribute heroin, oxycodone and marijuana, according to a criminal complaint. The charges came after a year-long investigation” (Rocha and Hamilton). The article also stated that, “authorities say several people were involved in what a federal investigator labeled the “Foster drug-trafficking organization,” including two people believed to be related to the deputy chief: Iran Dennis Foster and Randy Flowers” (Rocha and Hamilton). There was an in depth investigation conducted by the F.B.I. and A.T.F. where they followed Foster during December 2014 as he drove his black BMW to a Rite Aid pharmacy drive-through and picked up a prescription for 100 oxycodone pills. He was later seen driving to the same pharmacy to pick up an identical order where he then dropped it off for distribution (Rocha and Hamilton).
