“Bad boys, bad boys. What you gonna do when they come for you?” In today’s society there is a very serious and even life threatening act happening. Police misconduct, is the overpowering force used by an authority figure, which most times concludes with scratches, bruises, blood-shed, broken bones, and in some cases even death. Police misconduct is an atrocity that is jeopardizing the civil rights of American citizens and the rights of people around the world; however it is an act that is often overlooked. (Kozy)
There is no doubt that police officers have more power than the average U.S. citizen. Many officers have abused their power, and when this happens it is logical to think that they would be charged or forced with some type of punishment. Wrong! In actuality, officers are just given a slap on the wrist and a few days off the clock with pay included. With officers being the authority figure to U.S. citizens, the question arises, “who are the officers authority?”. These days, during even the most routine and innocuous contacts with police officers, they often point their guns, order people to lie on the ground, or even order people to turn-around and put their hands behind their head and walk backwards. With so much talk thrown in today’s society about police misconduct the court and citizens of America are dismayed by the situation. Police misconduct is a hard battle to fight with obstacles to jump over, not only against officers and citizens, but also the huge Federal system backing up America’s police
