The police brutality
The police handle an essential part in society as its protectors. The law enforcement officers look out for the citizens and try to protect their safety and happiness whenever possible. Throughout the years, however; the society has questioned the use of force, racism and internal corruption as well as other forms of misconduct by officers of the law. Some people claim that many of these problems are misconstrued by the media and blown out of capacity; these officers are simply doing their job. Others argue that these circumstances can be drawn back to poor training and policies. Others maintain that the whole system needs to be changed and that with the rise in crime; officers have become enforcers more than protectors.
Police brutality in America is an immense problem that does require attention from the government. Some officers’ use their power to frightened the society. Many people have been shot by the law force without much reason. One of the victims is Eric Garner, who is married and has six children, killed by a number of police officers. Garner was selling the cigarettes outside the liquor store when the NYPD officers showed up.

Is it possible to bring justice to those victims of police brutality and hopefully one day bring it to an end? Yes, I do believe this is possible, but to get rid of it will take decades of dedication in doing so. One solution that I believe should be implemented is that each department has a committee of trained citizens, not police, to investigate these reports and complaints. This committee would deal specifically on police brutality, which would make a case of such, their main priority. These people would need to be thorough and are not related to the police department, that way the code of silence would never apply. In addition, there needs to be an easier and cheaper way in reporting such incidents for victims. Victims should not be afraid to come forward but more feel comfortable
Police Brutality Police work is dangerous. Sometimes police put in situations that excessive force is needed. A variety of studies of media content have estimated that as much as 25 percent of the daily news is devoted to crime (Surette 1992) and that crime is the largest major category of stories in the print and electronic media (Chermak 1994, 103). In 2014, the death of Eric Garner in New York City raised controversial conversations and highlighted the issues of race, crime, and policing in neighborhoods that tend to be poor and racially isolated. Garner, an unarmed black man, was killed after being tackled and held in a “chokehold.” According to the AP Polls in December 2014, “Police killings of unarmed blacks were the most important news stories of 2014.” The problem is that young black men are targeted by police officers in which they have responded with the misuse of force and policy brutality. It is evident that this issue affects many people nationwide. The civilians do not trust the police department and the justice system because they hold the perceptions that police officers are immune from prosecution despite their actions. In particular, black individuals, specifically black males, do not feel safe in the presence of police officers because they are not held accountable for their mistakes.
The three key deaths of Eric Garner, Philando Castile, and Alton Sterling have become the face of police brutality in the year 2016. People knew that there was unequal treatment of black people by police in the United States and they made it known by creating #BlackLivesMatter. A key figure in the black lives matter movement was Eric Garner and his tragic, unexpected death from police brutality. The duty of a police officer is to protect the people with the laws and enforce them, not hurt the people.
The United States criminal justice system constantly violates human rights. These rights belong to justify every person in America and should not be used to tear one another down for what their beliefs are. Likewise, freedom of speech is so ingrained in the constitution that it should be more widely embraced. The protection of religion, speech, and expression is a critical part of America’s political system. One of the many ways people have been fighting against police brutality is by protesting. There have been many people that have protested because of an incident that happened in their state, city, or community. This strategy has been used many times to achieve the results wanted by the people protesting. Protesting is not easy, but with enough people it can be effective enough so that the police department will act on the issue at hand. There have been many cases where protesting encouraged or forced police departments to do something to ease the pressure that was put on them due to police brutality. We must take actions to reform police behavior! The problem is not the police nor the people of the United States, but the Federal Government system in which we all have to abide by. In order for a police reform to be implemented, the system has to be fixed and reconstructed. The people of the United States want to feel protected by the police, but on the other hand, they receive limited training on how to effectively interact with the people in the community they serve. Police officers are ordained by the power of the government. Police reform should start by giving proper training to new recruits and veterans, enforcing community policing and police accountability.
Police brutality is rising heavily in the United States. Many cases of police brutality are being reported regularly by the media. There have been victims either physically injured, molested, permanently disabled, killed in the process or even die in the care of officers. Ethnic minority groups are major victims of most cases of reported police brutalities in America. There have been more injustice than justice in these cases and if there’s no serious legal consequences against police’s that engage in racial profiling and brutalities against their victims then it may continue to and eventually they will lose the public’s trust and respect for our officers. And in worst cases may lead to the breakdown of law and order as well as the destruction of lives, properties and communities.
Throughout time in the U.S, It Seems there have not been too many good interactions with citizens and police .It was found that in the U.S , there have been many instances of police brutality. Throughout the late 19th ,20th ,and 21st centuries police brutality has always been administered to poor people and the socially marginalized . To illustrate this it has been found that Police have killed over 102 unarmed black people in 2015 more than twice a week(mapping police violence 1) . Policemen are now , and have been abusing their authority for some time now .For instance a video captured during the Ferguson Protests in August 2014 encapsulates the absurdity of the abuse in police power ; in that video Ferguson Police order protesters who are standing in their own yards to go back inside of their homes according to Hayes . Also, according to Hayes , when the protesters refused to comply , the protesters were shot at with tear gas as one of the men Protesting shouts ,“This is my backyard!This is our home !This is our residence !” (Hayes 2).The death rate of police killings , race based killings & injury rate , and the non-prosecution of cops must all be terminated .Race and police brutality should be eliminated all over the U.S , and all over
Police officers are supposed to bring an aura of safety wherever they go, as they are supposed to protect everyone. There is a problem when there are people who see a police officer and immediately fear for their life. Police brutality in America has always been an issue, but it has been getting worse and worse. It also is becoming more well known. In order to put an end to police brutality, America must first recognize the problem and work toward a solution.
Numerous studies have been conducted on various facets of police brutality, since it has been one of the controversial issues in our society. Even though it is true that police brutality exists in United States, police officers have been expressing their image by the media as wrongly depicted. The United States has a serious problem with excessive force and police brutality. In the first 24 days of 2015, 59 fatal police shootings took place (Lartey). In fact, recently, on February 29 2016, there was a ruling on a police brutality case that occurred in August, which resulted in the officer in question being fired from the police department. He was charged with, “Aggravated assault, false arrest, false imprisonment, excessive use of force and failure to follow policy and procedures resulting in physical injury” (Billings). This is not the only incident that has occurred recently, and it will not be the last unless there is something being done to stop brutality. In our times, the police have become the criminals. Some police are using their power to do bad things, and society has come to fear police. The law enforcement system needs change. The courts have failed the police, and the police have turn to other means of justice. We must stop the corruption in the police force.
According to the National Police Academy, in the past year, there have been over 7,000 reports of police misconduct; fatalities have been linked to more than 400 of these cases (Gul). Police brutality is often triggered by disrespect towards the police officer. The most noticeable form of brutality is physical, where Chemical gas, batons, tasers, and guns, can be used for physical intimidation or to actually hurt people. Police brutality can also take the form of verbal abuse or psychological intimidation. It seems reasonable to understand that sometimes the police are put into situations where excessive force may be needed. But, because some officers use these extreme actions in situations when it is not, police brutality should be addressed and looked into by both the police and the public. For instance, a police officer who beats a nonviolent protester with a baton would probably be accused of excessive use of force, under the argument that the police officer probably could have dealt with the situation less violently.
