My research paper will be a collection of information that I have gathered about the planet Venus and its relationship to Earth. I will go over some of the creation background of the solar system because Venus is in it. Talk about some of the characteristics of the planet Venus and its atmosphere. Then later show some of the explorations to Venus.
There are several theories of how our solar system was created. But one widely accepted called the Nebular Hypothesis first introduced by Emanuel Swedenborg then later further work on by Immanuel Kant and Pierre Simon De Laplace in the 1700s. Their hypothesis says that our solar system was formed about 50 billion years ago from a giant spinning cloud called a Nebula. The massive cloud was filled with gases like Hydrogen and helium as well as some dust particles. As the cloud continued to spin with the influence of gravity it began the core began to spin faster and grew denser and hotter. While it was spinning the denser materials began to sink toward the core while the lighter material moved further away form the core flatting out the cloud. With that the core began to gain enough energy to produce nuclear fusion. Thus formed an early version of our sun. With the heavier material close to the sun and the lighter away from it, the similar material began to clump together and form large rocks that would eventually form planets and our Solar System today. With the lighter further away material forming cold gas giants called Jovian planets and the closer heavier materials forming rocky Terrestrial planets. Among those Terrestrial planets came Venus. An Astronomer by the name of Galileo Galilei was one of the first people to observe the phases of Venus. He also made some observations of Venus changes in the size of Venus's visible diameter when it was in different phases. Through time we have began to send out satellites and telescope labs on Earth that continued to gather more and more information about the other planets in our solar system. In 1962 NASA sent the Mariner 2 to Venus as its first close planetarium encounter. The data gathered showed the Climate and revolution on its axis. Later Landers and probes observed the terrain and atmosphere of the planet. As time progresses and technology advances we will continue learn more new and exciting information about our sister planet Venus.
There have been different significant meanings about the Venus of Willendorf, which is fertility, good luck, and a mother goddess. The Venus of Willendorf statue was found at Willendorf, Austria in 1908. It is 4 3/8 inches and made between 28,000-25,000 B.C.E. It was made from limestone with a tint of red orchard. It has an abstract body of a nude woman with enlarged parts. She has little hand that overlap over the breast, and appear to have no feet. There is no face on the head, but it appears to be a cap or maybe curls on the head.
Although, both the Aphrodite of Knidos and the Birth of Venus have like traits such as nude female body, contrapposto stance, and iconography, they also can be easily contrasted by period of creation, technique, and artist. The human body has always been a popular choice among artists, but it seems the nude female body is quite controversial. The Aphrodite of Knidos, sculpted by Praxiteles about 350 – 340 B.C., or during the Greek Late Classical period, was a nude female modestly covering her genitalia. The Aphrodite was what made the small island of Knidos known to people around the world. Some 1,000 years later, the Birth of Venus arrived. Artist Sandro Botticelli, during the Italian Renaissance (ca. 1482,) defied odds with a similar interpretation of the Aphrodite despite stricter views on nude women. Both pieces share similar traits, yet can be easily identifiable apart from each other.

The Birth of Venus is a beautiful Renaissance canvas masterpiece created by Sandro Botticello. The picture illustrates the birth of Venus in a very mystical way. Venus has emerged from sea on a shell which is being driven to shore by flying wind-gods. She is surrounded by beautiful roses which are painted in a truly remarkable color. As she is about to step to land, one of the Hours hands her a purple cloak. The back drop includes the sea and a forest. The Venus of Willendorf is one of the earliest sculptures of the body made by humans during the Paleolithic era. She was made from limestone native to her location and covered with red orche. Despite standing only 4.4 inches, the purpose of the Venus of Willendorf is widely debated. Some will say the exaggerated breasts, navel, and vulva connects her to fertility as a representation of a mother goddess. Others, such as those in my class, believe her to be a figure of body image. The stumpy female figure features hanging breasts, an obese middle and belly, and distinct buttocks in all, represents a realistic form of a severely overweight woman. Firstly, Venus’s atmosphere is heavily laden with carbon dioxide (CO2), which makes up 96 percent of its atmosphere, 3.5 percent is made of nitrogen, and the remaining 0.5 percent is a combination of water vapor, sulfuric acid (which produce Venus’s thick, stable clouds), hydrochloric acid, and hydrofluoric acid. Venus’s upper atmosphere is cool, which the lower atmosphere is extremely hot and causes the surface temperature to rise to 470C (880F). Venus’ present atmosphere is very dry, but shows signs that it may have once contained water. An abundance of deuterium—the heavy isotope of hydrogen—developed, but was broken down into hydrogen and oxygen atoms by ultraviolet radiation that could not be absorbed by Venus’s lack of an ozone layer (Seeds).
Astronomy is a very important field in science. Ancient Greece, China, and India all contributed to our everyday ideas and uses of astronomy. Ancient Greece was the most influential because the Indian’s based most of their astronomy off of Greece. The Greeks created calendars that were based off of the eclipse cycle, which they called by two different names, Hellenic Calendars and Lunisolar Calendars. Because of Ancient Greece, we now have calendars to keep us on track every day. The Greeks observed a celestial object passing through the eastern and western morning sky. After a long time of observations, they came to a realization that it was a planet and now that is the planet is well known as Venus. The history of the planet's discovery is the first we have of its kind; Uranus was the first planet to be discovered with a telescope. The circumstances surrounding the discovery of the object are befitting of the odd planet. The earliest recorded sighting of Uranus was in 1690 by John Flamsteed, but the object was catalogued as another star. On March 13, 1781 Uranus was sighted again by amateur astronomer William Herschel and thought to be a comet or nebulous star. In 1784, Jean-Dominique Cassini, director of the Paris Observatory and prominent professional astronomer, made the following comment:

Our solar system has eight planets, their moons and satellites, and they are all orbiting the Sun. The eight planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. The idea behind the Solar Nebular Hypothesis is that the solar system was condensed from an enormous cloud of hydrogen, helium, and a few other elements and rocks. Around five billion years this cloud of materials began to spin and contract together into a disk shape under their own gravitational forces. The particles started combined together, protoplanets, to eventually form planets. A great mass of the material eventually began to form together, protosun, and make up the sun.
A year later, using such an early refracting telescope, Galileo Galilei, an Italian physicist and astronomer, noticed the craters and mountains on the moon as well as what was later coined as the Milky Way Galaxy.
