Throwing the ball is the first key element to the ways physics plays a role in softball. Each player has her own technique in how she throws the ball. At a young age, the ball tends to be thrown very high and very soft. This throw matures as the player does, however. As the player gets older, she has to make her throw harder and more accurate. Having the ability to take direction, and to know just how much force to apply to the ball, is a skill that only a select group of players can handle. Starting at about age nine, softball players progress from having a coach pitch to pitching to each other. Teaching a young girl the proper technique to throw a ball takes a great deal of work. This, in turn, also means a great deal of physics is involved. There is a certain need to understand that physics plays a role in the sport, in order to be able to improve. Coaches teach their players the necessary methods to build their strength, their endurance, and their confidence. Having the ability to relate their skills back to the physics behind the game. Physics plays a universal role in nearly every sport around. Everything we do can somehow be related back to this one subject.
