1. a) radiation~ The spontaneous decay or disintegration of an unstable atomic nucleus accompanied by the emission of radiation.
b) nuclear energy~ Energy released when atomic nuclei undergo a nuclear reaction such as the spontaneous emission of radioactivity, nuclear fission, or nuclear fusion.
c) background radiation~ relatively constant low-level radiation from environmental sources such as building materials, cosmic rays, and ingested radionucleides in the body.
d) nuclear fission~ Atomic nuclear processes which involve the splitting of nuclei with the accompanying release of energy.
e) nuclear fusion~ The nuclear process whereby several small nuclei are combined to make a larger one whose mass is slightly smaller than the sum of the small ones.
2. Two types of nuclear reactions can produce nuclear energy. Nuclear fusion is a process in which two light nuclei combine to form a single heavier nucleus. Nuclear fission is a process in which a heavy nucleus splits into two smaller nuclei.
3. Alpha, Beta, and Gamma radiation is produced when an unstable nucleus decays.
Alpha particles are made of 2 protons and 2 neutrons.
This means that they have a charge of +2, and a mass of 4
Alpha particles are relatively slow and heavy.
They have a low penetrating power - you can stop them with just a sheet of paper.
Because they have a large charge, alpha particles ionise other atoms strongly.
Beta particles have a charge of minus 1, and a mass of about 1/2000th of a proton. This means that beta particles are the same as an electron.
They are fast, and light.
Beta particles have a medium penetrating power - they are stopped by a sheet of aluminium or plastics such as perspex.
Beta particles ionise atoms that they pass, but not as strongly as Alpha particles do.
Gamma rays are waves, not particles. This means that they have no mass and no charge.
Gamma rays have a high penetrating power - it takes a thick sheet of metal such as lead, or concrete to reduce them significantly.
Gamma rays do not directly ionise other atoms, although they may cause atoms to emit other particles which will then cause ionisation.
4. Advantages of using nuclear energy instead of energy produced by fossil fuels:
The Earth has limited supplies of coal and oil. Nuclear power plants could still produce electricity after coal and oil become scarce.
Nuclear power plants need less fuel than ones which burn fossil fuels. One ton of uranium produces more energy than is produced by several million tons of coal or several million barrels of oil.
According to dancemotionusa.org tap dance originated from the West African dances and certain influences from the British Isles. All throughout the 20th century tap dance began to gain popularity. It seems that tap dance started as something that slaves did to express themselves. Dancemotionusa.org stated that, “White slave masters banned the use of drums, which they considered a tool for organizing revolution. This led to people into making rhythms with their bodies-specifically, their feet.” Another way we know that tap dance has evolved is that before they would attach pennies to their heels and soles in order to retain the rhythmic sounds of their dance (pg.81). Now, tap shoes have a metal attached to the heel. Tappers do not have to attach pennies to the bottom of their shoes anymore. Tap dance has also adapted new moves and expanded into other forms of dance. An example, countless of people have combined ballet and tap dance together—creating a flawless routine. In addition, some of today’s upcoming tappers are: Michelle Dorrance, Anthony Morigerato, Daniel Leveille, Aaron, Alexis, and Curtis. Overall, tap dancing has come a long way and in my opinion it has not lost its meaning.
Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) is a therapy developed by Albert Ellis with the goal of helping client’s modify their self talk. (Smith, 2012) Self talk is intrapersonal communication that occurs within ones mind, disturbed behavior and unhappiness are the result of irrational self talk and is based on the way one reacts and interprets the various events in their lives. Thus, if a client interprets a given event negatively they will then start the negative self talk within their own mind which will then lead to negative responses.
It originated with a blend of British Isles dances such as the jig, reel and clog dancing as well as African steps such as juba and ringshout dances. However, as tap progressed, the African elements became more formal, and the British elements became more formal. This is what created the American hybrid form of tap dance that is still very popular today. It combines different rhythms and syncopations that require intricate isolations through the feet. Because of the combined roots, there is a lot of variety within the genre itself. In the movie “Tap” (2002), you can see how dance was used a social form of communication. They would tap in clubs, in bars, pretty much anywhere. You can see in this movie, that this form of tap was very much a social dance form. However, the Nicholas Brothers had a different approach to tap. They had a much more stylized approach to the technique. This related to many different audiences because it was more performance based and less casual. People were entertained when watching people like them perform. Stemming off of tap is Irish dance. Irish dance is different than tap in the fact that it is done in a much more uniform style and is mainly held upright. While tap is very grounded and more loose. Michael Flately is known for his fame in Riverdance and is one of the most popular Irish dancers of the time. What is unique about his work is that it combines elements
These moving elements including levels and choreography, with non-moving dance elements including costumes, lighting and music. All of these elements combined allow an audience to understand the sin of ‘Greed’, (thanks to an effective portrayal created by Natalie Weir) and allow an audience to recognise the sin of ‘Greed’ within
Learning about Dance: Dance as an Art Form and Entertainment provides visions into the many features of dance and inspires scholars to keep an open mind and think critically about the stimulating, bold, ever-changing and active world of dance. Learning about Dance is particularly useful for those who do not have a wide and diverse dance contextual, such as students in a preliminary level or survey dance course. This book consists of twelve chapters. Chapter one dance as an art form focuses on the basic structures of dance. Dance is displayed through the human body, it has the control to communicate and induce reactions. Dance can be found in many different places, it enables the participants and seekers to touch and knowledge the joy of movement. Dance is discovered as being one of the oldest art forms worldwide. Dance existed in early cultures was recognized in a sequence of rock paintings portrayed dance. Since this discovery of rock paintings, several other forms of art have been found that depict dance. People used rituals in order to worship the gods and believed that the rituals held magical and spiritual powers. During the ancient period civilizations sentient decisions began to be made with regard to dance. Other periods that had an impact on dance were the medieval period, the renaissance period, and the contemporary period. Chapter two the choreographer, the choreographer is a person who comes up with the movements created into a dance routine. The choreographer expresses themselves through choreography because this is their way of communicating with the audience. In order to be a choreographer you must have a passion for dance. Each choreographer has their own approaches and ways of making up a routine. Choreographers ...
Tap dance is a style of dance the incorporates complex foot work with rhythmic patterns. Performers wear metal-soled dance shoes that are fit to their feet and that allow them to create clicking patterns as they dance. Tap dance is an ever-changing style of dance that is practiced by people young and old all around the world. This entertaining style of dance originated in Africa and was brought to America by slaves. With African, Scottish, Irish, and British origins, tap has also become one of the greatest forms of dance entertainment in the Americas. Despite his personal shortcomings and the racial barriers of the time, Bill ‘Bojangles’ Robinson created a unique form of tap dance that is still relevant in the current world of dance. The footprint
“Alpha decay (4x2) is a radioactive process in which a particle with two neutrons and two protons is ejected from the nucleus of a radioactive atom.” The mass number is decreased by four and the atomic number is decreased by two. “Beta decay (e-) occurs when, in a nucleus with too many protons or too many
Did you know that Henry I was the first monarch to use Windsor Castle as a home? During his reign, the wooden keep and walls were replaced with stone and served as a stronger structure for the castle to survive upon. Windsor Castle has housed many kings and queens throughout its lifetime, and has become a monument in England’s history. It has been refurbished over the years, but still has remained with the same layout. The interior is the extent of the changes made around the castle over its lifetime, besides the walls being substituted with stone.
always alive” Pure love of this extraordinary story has kept the words alive for nearly two hundred years, so they can dance for you across these colorful pages” (Walden 5). There are many ballet schools that use the Nutcracker Ballet as a way to make money. Maybe it is because they have a family member dancing in it or it is a fundraising event. And of course we have a different outlook on the ballet The Nutcracker when little ones are performing .They see the cute costumes and beautiful scenes
energy out of a nuclear reaction than we put in. First, the energy per fission
What type of exercise lets you make music with your feet? Tap dancing, of course. From the classic films of Fred Astaire to contestants on the popular television show So You Think You Can Dance, most people have seen a dancer tapping. You may even have wanted to try it for yourself. In fact, this style of dance can be practiced by anyone at any age, and tap dancing classes have become popular with active seniors.
Radiation is part of our life, so researchers have focused on studying the photon interaction parameters with matter (attenuation coefficients). This is due to increasing the use of radioactive sources in different fields such as medicine, tomography, and nuclear research applications. The attenuation coefficient is an important parameter to characterize the penetration and diffusion of gamma rays in matter. The absorbed and scattered ra...
It was times where we used to party and hang out almost everyday. Due to certain circumstances, I couldn't hang out and party like I used too. We grew apart for a while and I really can't explain why, It just happened I guess. He was dealing with a young lady that I felt was ruining his life. Even though I didn't agree with his current living situation at the time, when things got hot and heavy , I was always there to be his escape route. It was times when him and his current girlfriend at that time, would fight and I was the first person on the scene to diffuse the situation or just take him away from the situation. I got really sick of going out of my way to save this guy from another problem. It got to the point when I just stopped showing up when he needed me to. We stop hanging out all together, and our friendship sort of drifted away. Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, and months turned into more
Tap dancing is another type of dance that is energetic and exciting. Tap dancers wear special dance shoes with metal taps on them so they can use their feet like drums to create rhythm and beats in specific patterns. The goal of tap dancing is to create clear, clean sounds, with various tones.
Nuclear energy is generated by a process called fission. Fission occurs within the reactor of a nuclear power plant when a neutron is fired at an atom of uranium causing it to split and release subsequent neutrons.1 These are able to crash into other uranium atoms causing a chain reaction and releasing a great deal of heat energy.
