When you fear something, you are either afraid of something or a situation that you believe is dangerous and will cause you harm in some sort of way. If a fear can cause anxiety and inquietude you should consult with a psychiatrist to check if you have a phobia. A phobia is a persistent, irrational fear of a specific object, activity, or situation that leads to a compelling desire to avoid it. Having a fear of something and a having a phobia is said to be the same, but in psychology it is agreed to be divergent because having a phobia goes way beyond a fear.
The word phobia comes from the greek word phobos, which means excessive fear or terror. There are a plethora of phobias that exist. Phobias can be divided into subcategories. In popular culture, it is common for specific phobias to be given its name from a Greek word for the object of the fear and the suffix -phobia.
Additionally, a specific phobia is a kind of anxiety disorder that amounts to an unreasonable or irrational fear related to exposure to a specific object or situation. A person with a specific phobia tends to actively withdraw themselves from the objects or situations. The fear or anxiety may be triggered by the presence or the anticipation of the specific object or situation. Most adults may logically know the fear is unreasonable but still find it unmanageable to control the anxiety.
Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder distinguished by symptoms of anxiety in situations where the person perceives the environment to be dangerous with no accessible way of leaving, which can lead to panic attacks. In conclusion, the phobias are extreme fears that can affect the affect the lives of everyday people. The individuals that have phobias would find any excuse to avoid being in that particular situation. There are some people who believe that having a fear and having a phobia are one in the same, but in the world of psychology, they are one in the same. Phobias can be divided into different categories, such as specific phobias, social phobias, and agoraphobias. There are over a hundred known phobias that are in the world. These phobias can be diagnose by a trained and certified psychiatrist. From reading the list of phobias, one can identify that anybody can be afraid of any and everything. From what was learned about phobias, we based our video on a specific phobia which lead to the beginning resolution to curing one’s fear.
