Normally the strongest survive in many obstacles like in works and business, but not everyone believes that it is true. The quote “softness triumphs over hardness, feebleness over strength. What is more flexible is always superior over that which is immovable. This is the principle of controlling things by going along with them; of mastery through adaptation” by ancient Chinese sage Lao-Tzu explains that our life is a challenge that needs to get along with the people around us and about learning to manage on your own obstruction. However, that should be the other way around because as usual our elders say that “The survival is within your own strength.” The main point of the quote from Lao-Tzu has showed us that, the connection in our lives is similar to each other because people usually have the kind feeling somewhere in their ideal life and the flexibility that is needed in life.
Lao-Tzu was a great Chinese sage with the knowledge to understand what is needed in life. He explains through his quote to us; how everybody reacts the same way from their own experience or other peoples' experiences. Even though they may have a different experience, or a different personality from each other, in the end they will understand how the great lesson can be defined in a different meaning. However, with a great opportunity that can make people become easier to cooperate and participate with throughout their life. I have learned from my experiences that people that are hard working usually succeed better when they collaborate in a group.

Sage Lao-Tzu chose this particular advice to give to people because it helps them to think what kind of value people can achieve. I do believe that Lao-Tzu has reasons behind his quote because it shows the relationship between life and choices. One of his reasons shows us how softness can teach a valuable lesson in life. Softness can be flexible unlike hardness because it can break. I have reason to believe that the quote from Lao-Tzu is a really intelligent one because it is helps many people to take many steps in life. When people can be flexible over something, they can blend in just like flowing water. Lao-Tzu quote can really change people in their life and it is really good advice for our benefit.
Adversity can be defined as a state or instance of serious or continued difficulty or misfortune. Many things in life can bring one adversity, however some are faced with more adversity in their lives than others. Overcoming this adversity can be one of the most difficult things that a person encounters, and at times, it may consume them. People attempt to persevere through adversity in many different ways. One of the most effective ways is to keep pushing through and to never give up. If one loses sight of what is driving them to persevere through adversity, it will swallow them up with no remorse. Staying mentally tough and focused on an end goal is how people not only persevere, but thrive through adversity.
Lao Tzu: I will ensure that the people know that I need them to sustain. I will be a leader who is full of humility, as “humility is the root from which greatness springs” (Tzu 59). I am dependent on the people whom I rule. I am sovereign to them. I am the worthless one. I will not take expensive vacations using the people’s money. I will not wear designer clothes at the people’s expense. I would rather take care of the people. I do not want to be an expensive leader at the expense of my people because “[it] is not wise to shine like a jade and resound like stone chimes” (Tzu 60).
Lao-Tzu's political philosophy falls into more of an individualistic and carefree branch of politics, in which the way of governing is by not forcing issues. He believes that the ruler should not act powerful, and because of this, he will be respected. Lao-Tzu also believes that the best leader is one that is loved, not feared. Instead of holding power and forcing rules, Lao-Tzu wishes to teach simplicity, patience, and compassions. He views the latter as "the greatest treasures" and if one has the three qualities, one will be a better person.
Lao Tzu believed that Tao is a natural thing. He believes that you come by it or you realize its presents and experience it. The best way for me to explain how Lao Tzu perceives the Tao is to take it directly from our reading in Molloy, “The Doa cannot be named because it has no form. But the Dao can be experienced and followed by every individual thing that has a name (213).” Lao Tzu used Tao as a way of being and living in harmony with nature. Lao Tzu believed that Tao came to you by using his teaching of Wu Wei, Simplicity, Gentleness and Relativity (217-218).
Taoism applied to everyday life "Practice not-doing and everything will fall into place" (Chapter 3). In Taoism this is the concept known as "wu wei". Wei wu wei is the practice of doing and not-doing. This concept comes from the theory of the Yin and Yang. The Yang, along with wei, is the practice of doing. The Yin, along with wu wei, is the practice of not-doing. One compliments the other, and each cannot exist alone. The Tao tells people to practice not-doing because it will bring happiness in their life. By not-doing, the Tao means not performing actions, which are unnecessary and uncalled for. People should just take things as they come in life and they will live a life full of happiness and pleasure. If you don't interfere with the Tao and let things take their natural course, everything will work out in your life (Chapter 10). "If powerful men and women could remain centered in the Tao…all people would be at peace…" (Chapter 32). If you work against your Tao, you will never find happiness. The Sage practices wu wei. He teaches without words and performs without actions (Chapter 43). He knows and therefore does not speak (Chapter 56). Many people mistake conceptual knowledge for the map to the territory. The Sage is our map to the Tao. He points his finger to show us the way, but does not really tell us what to do and how to practice Taoism. Lao Tzu's concepts of the Tao can be a guide to rational living. If one follows these beliefs he is guaranteed happiness in his life. However, it is very difficult to follow the Tao, even though the teachings are said to be easily understood and easily put into practice (Chapter 70). It is understandable why he abides by this quote because it must have helped him start on his dreams and goals which founded Taoism. The abstract idea of life cannot be explained by such simple ideas as being animated, breathing, or speaking. Ordinary machines in this century can perform all of these basic functions. The quandary with defining death is not as abstract and elusive as that of life. The problem of defining life and death has plagued philosophers and the religious bodies for thousands of years for one reason; each philosophy or religion has tried to define the meaning of life and death from only their certain perspective. The seemingly appropriate approach to this problem would be to understand the ideas presented in various philosophies and religions and through this knowledge create a new definition for each idea of life and death. The movie Blade Runner has taken this exact approach in its attempt to finally define life and death in a logical and un-spiritual manner. By taking the position that death is a concrete idea that can be explained, Blade Runner accomplishes the task of interpreting the idea of life in terms death. Through this approach, the meaning of life is redefined to accommodate for the existence of the replicants. Also, as a result of this novel notion of life, it is apparent that humans and replicants never actually live, even though they are alive.
Sun Tzu was, weather a made up ghost or a real individual, was a truly wise man. He not only was able to win battles with these tactics, but was able to create teachings that can be applies to just about anything. Sometimes there are more battles than just war, sometimes there is the battles within us, or just in our everyday lives. Jobs, school, family, friends, anything can be the enemy we are fighting in this battles. Through Sun Tzu’s teaching we can become victorious and win our obstacles. Not everything relays on our physical strengths but rather the mental strengths. We too have to think like Sun Tzu in order to obtain success. Like said before, sometimes our strongest muscle isn’t our outer body, but our brain.
People don't truly accept life for what it is until they've actually tasted adversity and went through those misfortunes and suffering. We are put through many hardships in life, and we learn to understand and deal with those issues along the way. We find that life isn't just about finding one's self, but about creating and learning from our experiences and background. Adversity shapes what we are and who we become as individuals. Yann Martel's Life of Pi shows us that adverse situations help shape a person's identity and play a significant role in one's lief by determining one's capabilities and potential, shaping one's beliefs and values, and defining the importance and meaning of one's self.
The phrase “Philosophy of Life” can be defined as a person's personal beliefs, attitudes, and values. In comparison to one’s core values, a person’s philosophy of life is often what drives their behavior. A philosophy of life can change throughout a person’s life depending on the situations that may or may not be thrown in the direction of that person and how they decide to handle it. Like core values, which are a consistent part of a persons philosophy of life, in my opinion, a percentage of these traits are instilled in you for the entirety of your life as opposed to others that may change. But, like all people and all parts of life, this varies. I say this because people will only change when they are open to change and willing to change.
