Donald Griggs in his book Teaching Today’s Teachers to Teach, purports teaching must be given a high priority predominantly because it undergirds everything the church endeavors to accomplish for God. He further states teaching is both intentional in formal settings and unintentionally in every day settings when interaction takes place with each other. As a teacher our philosophy or thought process regarding Christian Education will guide how we relate to learners. Having begun teaching Christian Education over fifteen years ago, this is the first time I have given serious thought to my philosophy. I had an unspoken philosophy, however it was not articulated as learned over the past few months. I was conveying my philosophy to learners by the methods utilized in the teaching settings undertaken.
I viewed myself as the expert or at the very least, the one with knowledge and learners needed to get what I could deposit into them. In order for us to be effective teachers we must love the learners. One cannot take learners on this journey of Christian Education if we do not love them; each and every one.
