Pharmacy as a career was not always clear to me; my sophomore year of undergraduate studies I knew the route I was on to law school would not fulfill me nor my academic ability as a student. At this crossroads I knew I not only wanted to be challenged in my education, but also utilize my passion to help others. After countless pro/con list and hours of self-reflection I found that pharmacy, as a career, was the perfect fit. As I reflect back on my undergraduate career, I see a variety of experiences and accomplishments that make me a well-rounded applicant and have set in me the right path to have a successful career in pharmacy.

As a young child, I was diagnosed with an immune deficiency, which required quarterly visits to the local children’s hospital. Although I may not have seen it then, I believe this is where my strong desire to work not only within pediatrics but also specialize in oncology stems from. I was fortunately blessed enough to have no serious repercussions from this deficiency, but those I was surrounded by in the hospital typically didn’t share the same luck. From elementary school until high school graduation day I say child after child battling the good fight of cancer and his or her families cling onto hope in a way I don’t wish upon anyone. It is for this reason I seek out to have my own hand in the good fight as a practicing pharmacist; I want to help children not only see another birthday but also improve their quality of life.
