Learning and applying the theories of personality type can be a powerful and rewarding experience, if it is used as a tool for discovery, rather than as a method for putting people into boxes, or as an excuse for behavior. I value knowledge, competence, and structure. I am a natural leader but will follow if I trust the existing leaders. As of NT temperament, I gather data consisting largely of abstractions and possibilities (iNtuition) which filter through my objective decision-making process (Thinking). My driving force in my never ending quest for competence is to theorize and intellectualize everything. At work, I value competence more than credentials. I grew up being perceived as shy, and even now I come across to others as somewhat reserved and reflective. I like stating my thoughts or feelings without interruptions and allow others to do the same in hope that they will not interrupt when I speak. An example from work will be with a co-worker whom I work with closely. We depend on each other 's data to complete our tasks. Every time I am ready to brief her of my progress and the next step is for her to know where to pick up from, she will interrupt and almost complete my phrase. I always have to ask her to let me finish because she is generally wrong in what she thinks I will say. I am perceived a great listener, but I have not felt like I have been taken advantage of and run overs, as the test result suggests. In fact, I attract co-worker and my church member to confide in me. I enjoy the peace and quiet of having time to myself to reflect on my task at work and my progress throughout the day. I am not bothered when I am left alone. I do believe talk is cheap. (Kroeger, Thuesen & Rutledge, 2002).
