As I was getting older, I was finding myself getting bored with the everyday patterns of just existing and not doing something that I really had a passion for. Living comfortably with minimal contribution became increasingly easy for me. Rest assured, I knew my life had bigger meaning and I was meant for something better. Auspiciously, the medical field and the human body had caught my attention. I became increasingly interested in medical research and drug therapy. The reason I have selected pharmacy as a career path is due to the simple fact that I want to make a positive contribution to my peers and surrounding community. Being a face in a community that is known to help people and make them feel comfortable when talking about personal issues, such as medicinal intake, is something I have developed a yearning for. Sitting in the most eastern point of the United States is Washington County, Maine; this is a place I call home. Evolving with these roots has made me aware that being involved in a close knit community has become exceedingly important to me. Unfortunately, this county is deemed the poorest county in the state. Having to grow up in an impoverished setting, I wasn’t able to have the royalty of things being set before me. Single-handedly, I worked for everything that I’ve …show more content…
Consequently, I know that there is much more to learn in the field of pharmacy. With that being said, I look forward to the priceless knowledge that I will attain. Being able to give back to my community and ensuring trust with patients is very important to me. Any obstacles encountered will not hinder my access to this outstanding dream I have embarked on. I look forward to pursuing this journey while learning everything there is to know about the chemical and physical properties of the body and
As time progressed and my experiences grew, they became more redundant and rudimentary. I began to feel that becoming a pharmacist may not meet my expectations in terms of the level of patient interaction and the role I would play as a health care provider. It was at this point that I made the decision to branch off and research other health care professions that could play well to my interests and allow for the level of patient care I was looking for.
Pharmacy appeals to me because of its potential to ease people’s physical and emotional suffering. The simple act of listening and being empathetic to the concerns of other’s health and wellbeing has inspired me to learn more about the profession. Perseverance in college followed by the biotech industry has provided me with the necessary research skills to be successful. The ever-changing pharmacy field would allow me to continue my education, culminating in an exciting career.
This relates strongly with my long term professional goals. In the long run, I really wish to help as many people as I can by advancing pharmacy. It is a dream to be able to go to a developing country or be part of an organization such as the World Health Organization and spread the knowledge of pharmacy and bring h...
Since my early schooling days, science and mathematics have always fascinated me given that all components of the world are explained on the basis of these disciplines. In this regard, Pharmacy which is based on Chemistry and Mathematics has interested me a great deal as it has direct impacts on our daily lives. The more I have become familiar with the chemistry and mathematics knowledge involved in pharmacy, the more I have appreciated its significance in improving the lives of people in the community. Out of the many careers that one would opt to pursue, Pharmacy has stood out as the career that will enable me serve the society more directly and have a real impact in the quality of peoples’ lives by touching their health. In addition, I love a career that is challenging and one that I will be involved in even in old age. In this case, Pharmacy offers me this opportunity. My interest in Pharmacy has also developed from my personal health experiences and becoming aware of its expansiveness. Every time I have had to take medicine to cure an illness, I have become more interested to know how drugs are made and how the drug components work in the human body to alleviate pain and restore health. I desire to pursue a career in Pharmacy so as to gain practical experience in these aspects of research.
I chose my past career pharmacy technician. A pharmacy technician assists the pharmacist in filling prescriptions for the patient. There are many different settings and positions in this career. My favorite is the inpatient hospital setting. The technicians prepare IVs, patient medicine trays, and sometimes packages them in the pharmacy so the nurse is able to scan the medications. Other settings include, retail pharmacy where one would interact with the customers, and the main job is to fill the prescription bottles, and sometimes mix up creams in the compounding lab.
Along with my way of studying, I found that the human being is a masterpiece of nature. The complexity of the human body fascinates me, especially how medicine can affect a person’s wellbeing. In a microbiology class, l learned that a lack of knowledge leads to antibiotics overdose and misuse. Antibiotics are frequently modified because many pathogenic bacteria have grown resistance to natural antibiotics, and to make matters worse, the problem of “superbugs,” multiple-antibiotic-resistance bacteria, has emerged globally. Knowing this inspired me to become a community pharmacist that is not only a medicine dispenser but also the last checkpoint between medicine and the general public. A community pharmacist is responsible for informing the public the correct way to take medicine. By spreading the knowledge of medicine, I can help to ease the “superbug” problem before more innovative drugs are
I pleased to apply to the PharmD program as the program is one area that corresponds to my career dreams. Being part of this program gives one the opportunity to gain an excellent experience in working and collaborating with various health care providers in the ward. But more importantly, it facilitates a practical environment in dealing more closely with patients. Hence, it helps to provide the ultimate health care services to patients. Also, it permits me to carry on gaining different knowledge, skills, and values in addition to those I have already developed during my undergraduate studies. My interest in being a clinical pharmacist was first aroused during my SPEP rotation in the hospital setting where I was really impressed with the role of clinical pharmacists who provide a consistent process of patient care with healthcare teams to maintain the appropriateness, effectiveness and safety of the medication use. Unlike a pharmacist, a clinical pharmacist has a more diversified responsibilities and closeness to direct patient care. Moreover, provides
In most cases, when you ask a kid about what he wants to be when he grows up, he would probably answer a doctor, a lawyer, or an engineer. It is very rare that you would hear a little kid saying that he wants to be a pharmacist. I have to be honest pharmacy wasn’t really something that I dreamed about as a child; it was only in recently that I have developed an appreciation to my chosen field. Like doctors, pharmacists also save lives by providing proper medication to people who are in need. Like engineers, pharmacists are innovators, providing the latest medical breakthrough that could help cure illnesses. Compare to physician, pharmacists are always playing leading role in healthcare
I have admired the work of healthcare professionals and the extent that they go to help their patients get well. As a community health care worker I want to deliver superior patient care and improve the quality of life for all citizens especially in South Texas. Currently, I am a pharmacy technician and have been working in pharmacy for the past 6 years. I attended South Texas College where I received my Associates in Pharmacy and decided to further my career. After receiving my associates, I enrolled back into South Texas College were I also received my Bachelors’ in Medical Health and Service Management. Upon receiving my Bachelor’s, I knew I wasn’t ready to quit. I enjoy being a pharmacy technician but I have this passion that I want to do more for my patients.
Pharmacy as a career brings out a very unique perspective of healthcare system. The healthcare system that is developed in a way to promise a strong bond between people and medicines. This bond thus create the profession of Pharmacy to be a strongest amongst the patients. This ever changing field of Pharmacy has always fascinated me, in a way to think and to observe the community in a base of healthcare system. The path of choosing pharmacy as my profession was unclear before, but my personal background has played a very important role in it. As coming from a different country where healthcare has impacted many lives in a good way and also in a bad way. Also knowing that there are many people in the need of a proper healthcare. As I was growing up, I have seen many people including many kids struggling
During high school, I recall flipping through the pages of my father’s pharmacology textbooks. I was in awe of the abundance of information, and I began to crave knowledge of pharmaceuticals and their systemic targets. Not but a few years later, I began my experience in the field of pharmacy as a drug packer. As soon as I came of age, I applied for my pharmacy technician license – and was promoted shortly thereafter. While my drug and medical knowledge grew, I longed for the opportunity to work directly patients. This innate desire has led me to where I am today: prepared, committed and possessing an aptitude and intellectual maturity required to excel as a pharmacist. I have learned to promote teamwork and professionalism within a pharmacy, take charge in difficult situations, and complete tasks efficiently yet thoroughly. Pursuing a career as a pharmacist would incorporate my passion for pharmaceuticals and their underlying pharmacokinetics with my commitment to promoting health and well-being within my community.
Totaled together, my many life experiences have defined why I want to become a pharmacist. Through my future career, I want patients to advocate for their health and an analytical integration of food, genetics, and medicine. Therefore, I have made my personal and professional skills the means to this end. An interest in pharmacy was no accident; my family fed me a steady diet of pharmacy-related discussions and experiences. My stepmother and late grandfather, both pharmacists, captured my imagination as they advised patients and businesses, counted pills and tablets, and worked days and nights to improve the health of those around them. I witnessed how essential pharmacists improve the well-being of communities through their assistance of patients,
Since before I was attending college, I had spent many months deciding which major I should go for. As my ambition was to get a professional career in the medical field, I chose two professions in the healthcare sector. The first one was a pharmacy major, and the other one was physiotherapy major. After studying the advantages and disadvantages of both majors, I decided to choose pharmacy major based on my academic interest in biology, chemistry and botany, and my personal interest to work directly with patients, and to be a part of major innovations in drug therapy. Moreover, the wide spectrum of job opportunities available is the special fascinating characteristic of the pharmacy profession. Now, I am already in my first year of college. I am taking the prerequisite courses to attend Doctor of Pharmacy program. In my opinion, continuous watching of the up-to-date news and information about the pharmacy profession is crucial. Recently, some authors and pharmacists-bloggers write statements and articles regarding the provisions of the lack of job opportunities for pharmacists in the future. Personally, by reading these articles, for a person who is trying to become a pharmacy student, I am wondering what pharmacy career prospects will be once I graduate. The information from those statements and articles are really worrisome and overwhelming. After digging as much information as I can gather from American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, Pharmacy Times, American Pharmacists Association, and some news from reliable news agencies, I have learned that there are many different aspects to study wisely in order to discuss about the future role of the pharmacists and the prospect of job market. There are many factors need to be cons...
During the tenure of five years of undergraduate program I studied variety of different courses including Biochemistry, Anatomy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pathology, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmacognosy, etc. but always found myself more inclined towards pharmacology, physiology and pharmacotherapy of all the different courses I studied and with passing time my interest just grew stronger. In the commencement of undergraduate program, studying different drugs and their mechanisms, diseases and modes of their therapy was merely an interest but by the time my undergraduate degree program ended it became more of a passion. It was for this passion that I decided to pursue a post graduation degree in the respective field. Before I could go any further in academics I wanted to have some practical exposure and consequently, I decided to join a hospital rather than a pharmaceutical industry. Hence, after fighting off a tough competition from all over the country I was recruited among the twenty pharmacy graduates in a year lengthy “On-the-Job Hospital Pharmacist Trainee Program” in July 2013 and currently, I am working as a trainee pharmacist in the most preeminent hospital of the country, Aga Khan Ho...
