In this paper I will discuss parent and teacher conferences. I was able to interview a preschool teacher, and she was able to explain her views, knowledge and experiences. Especially when she attempts her annual parent teacher conferences. Parent teacher conferences can be a great tool to assist parents in the education of their children. Diversity was observed in the classroom, therefore she could face challenges; however, her challenges could turn into a positive teaching experience. Although the only concern is how the parent might feel, what they might say, and how will this conference affect the parent-teacher partnership. On Tuesday November 29, 2016 I held an interview with a preschool teacher name Ms. Fullmore (Ms. F). The interview …show more content…
F class are receptive, especially when she has the evidence to show. The portfolio was a visually tool, and for her Hispanic families she had her notes written in English and Spanish. Ms. F feels most of the parent and teacher conferences goes well, however when behavior issues are the concern meetings tend to go left. She had a male student in her class who liked to hit other friends on purpose. When time for the conference she starts with a positive approach, however once she engaged in the child’s behaviors the parents shut down. Which caused Ms. F to feel awkward, the parents became very distant, and she still today wonders how the child is doing socially in the public school system. When conducting a parent teacher conference, Ms. F have to prepare herself. In the first conference she tries and be her normal self, because she has already spent a month with the students. Ms. F feels the students know her and she also feels the need for the parents to get to know her as well. Once her second conference come in October she feels comfortable with meeting with her parents. She knows what to expect and what she will be able to prove to her parents. Her conferences in her eyes are tools that can successfully engage the children and parents in learning new

The group observation occurred at an International school. The primary school counselor was the facilitator. He meets with individual classes every month. The ages of the students range from 3-11 years old, which represented Pre-k through 5th grade. Each class is pulled out to the counselors classroom for a 45 minute session led by the school counselor. The counselors classroom has minimal distractions with lots of positive quotes. The chairs are set up in a semi-circle so that all can look at each, along with some students sitting on a carpet in the middle.
Community and parent support is considered a valuable and vital part of the Reggio Emilia system. The exchange of ideas between parents and teachers is essential and favours the development of a new way of educating. The approach encourages interaction and communic...
An average day in Ms. Monterroza’s classroom, begins with the students finishing their writing. There is always a group working with the teacher, normally the group includes the students that don't speak much English and the students that struggle with writing. Normally their writing is based off of a book that was just read or a major event going on. Most students are up walking around, asking how to spell certain words and talking to their friends. If the kids aren't working on English, they are finishing their math. Some days, the class will be working on math instead of their writing. The kids work in groups at their table, although Ms. Monterroza instruct them to work alone. She has a group of kids that are slower in the comprehension
I believe that after interviewing this educator, I have a better understanding of the changes that occurred in my future field. Though I am aware of the history of special education and education in general, I think that it is something different completely to be told about the changes in education from someone who
Sometimes a student is successful in one area and having difficulty in another or a student has trouble using their words to communicate and becomes aggressive. At this center, the teachers have the tools to assess each child and the parents are interested in knowing the strengths and supports their child needs. The article Understanding Families, states that there should be “opportunities for families to discuss their beliefs about their children, what they want for their children, and how they support their children’s development” (Christian, 7). As conferences occur every 6 months, parents also communicate with the school and teachers via email and during drop off and pick up times. Another great example of parent communication is in the article Building Bridges from School to Home. The teacher builds relationships with parents by getting them to understand the areas that their child struggles and continues to strive in. Making sure they know that their child will master these skills when they are ready (Lawrence-Lightfoot, 2). At Staples Child Care Center, all teacher will assessments and observations about the child and a few suggestions that the child will benefit
Teachers have a significant role with the children; they are their leader in learning and development. Teachers have to plan effectively so the students will be able to learn and grow from the different activity’s this it why it is important that teacher take the responsibility and know the goals of the programs and their curriculum so they can plan accordingly. Establishing reciprocal relations with the parents of a child are important. Teacher should seek to know more about the families and their culture. With this information’s teachers are able to enhance the curriculum. Communication is the key when it comes to relationships with
What separates a good teacher from a great Teacher? “First and foremost a teacher must love working with children. No matter how well you teach, there is always room for Improvement ” (Killen,2009.p.100) .In this Essay I hope to show some of the key attributes, that I consider essential to becoming an effective early childhood teacher. Those key aspects are communication, building lasting relationships, engaging students effectively in the learning process, and encouraging and appreciating diversity in the classroom.
As an educator the teachers and administrators have to develop a relationship with the parents and their children, the parents must feel in their heart that they are going to be involved in every process of their child’s learning that will take place in the center and with any concerns they have about their child. It is very important for teachers to sit down and learn as much as they can about the child from the parent so he/she will know what is expected from them and the work place. Since the teacher is the person that will spend the most time with the child he/she needs to know how to form the best relationship possible for the parent and child to feel secure and at ease. Some facts that stood out to me in my reading of chapter one and
The classroom, diversity is two English learners and one Chinese. Most of the students are from two parent homes working full time. Some student lives with their grandparents and some lives with one parent working full time. The gender and race of the three-student the special need student is an African American male, the gifted is an African American female and typical student is a Caucasian female. All three live within the same community, middle class neighborhood. All three children attend the same youth group and attend the same church. The town is very small and everyone knows each other, the school is a title I school and have more Caucasian than minorities enrolled. The information collected is use to determine the behavioral and learning of each
Parental involvement promotes the social growth of a child. Children whose parents are involved in their education have many advantages. They have better grades, test scores, long-term academic achievement, attitudes and behavior than those with disinterested mothers and fathers (Gestwicki, 2001). Parents becoming involved in their child's schooling creates extra sources of social constraint to influence the child's behavior (McNeal, 2001). For example, parents talking to their children and becoming involved in the school conveys a message to the child of education being important. Parents should be talking with your children's teacher and letting her know about your family. The more she knows about your child, the better she will be able to connect with your child.
The benefits of communication between parents and teachers has become a very important debate when we think about ways to better help our children/students. Teachers- parents relationship assume may roles. Communication plays a very significant part when building a parents-teachers relationship. It is my belief that in order to ensure students academic success teachers and parents need to have a relationship build on effective communication. “school teachers have to communicate with parents about their students’activities and achievements, families also need to inform school about students’ progress” (Raccah &Elyashiv, 2008). It is my goal when I communicate with parents, to goes beyond sharing information about students performance. I hope to foster a relationship in which information is shared on how to better enhance students achievements within the classrooms and outside of the classroom. When trying to establish effective parent teachers relationship, I hope to be able to discuss my students strengths and weaknesses openly, share vital information about curriculum in which the concepts are shared with hope that parents will reinforce the skills in the home. It is my goal that my parents feel welcomed within my classroom. I would hope that my parents feel free to reach out about their concerns, or if they need help themselves. As a teacher I have a responsibility not only to my students, but their parents as well. I am willing to my make myself available in a manner that is professional. To communicate with parents throughout the school year, I will use modern technology ( website, phone, email), teacher/ parent/ student information sheet, parent- teacher journal and parent conferences to communicate with parents, and other...
...d that parent teacher conferences are in swing and a child abuse conference will be held. The child abuse conference could greatly affect me as an educator because in class we learned that you are a mandated reporter. This means that any suspected abuse must be reported; the teacher is also protected. The school board makes decisions to have these conferences in order to keep the staff and students protected.
Parents are–or should be–the teachers of their children in many areas, a natural relationship of handing down what they have learned to their offspring. But there is something special about the profession of teaching where an individual chooses to make an impact on students ,they hardly know on Day 1 of class and yet they have a goal of sending those young faces on their way to a well-rounded education in the 180 or so days they will have them in his or her care.
In the reading it brings up how most parents are only contacted by the school when it is something bad. This is not how it should be. Teachers should be sending home good news notes to the parents praising the students for their hard work in the class. Schools also need to be welcoming to the families and provide workshops to assist in the parent’s knowledge to allow them to help their children with their schoolwork. Having the parents involved and aware of the things that are going on in the classroom and the school are great ways to build that relationship and to enhance the student’s academic achievement and
