The title, “Orientation Leader”, bestows an individual with the power to be a part of something bigger than themselves; a position that lets he or she guide many new students to a new door way for the betterment of the students educational future. Though this is a title I have had only shortly, I have been honored to be that individual to show these students that door. I was delighted when I received an email about this opportunity. Not only just because of the chance to complete my Honors Program Project, but as a chance to better myself. As I was trained in I quickly became aware of some skills I would obtain in the next couple months. However, little did I know the amount and importance of those skills/lessons would turn out to be far greater than I had initially imagined.

Most of the things that I have learned of that greater importance are skills that have what it takes to literally last an entire life time. To gain and strengthen skills is an important thing to do at any age; however, I see it as of even more importance to so at such a young age as myself. Like many others, I have lacked or struggled in certain areas or skills. However, it is taking chances and building on those skill areas through taking on experiences like this one that makes all the difference. One of those skills I have expanded on is my leadership skills. During this period, becoming aware and knowing the correct way of helping/leading the students to get to the end objective became extremely important. I had to become someone that would guide others to achieve the shared goal of officially becoming a NHCC student. Being somebody that people follow and look up to for answers is a big responsibility. The reason why I want to become an Orientation Leader is because I see this as something that I am naturally attracted to. By becoming an orientation, I will possess the opportunity to make a batch of new friends. In the process, some of the relationships that I establish can transform into a lifelong bond. I feel like as an orientation leader, I will become a member of the unique community of orientation staff and create a bond that I can carry with me throughout my time here at Winthrop.
The role of an Orientation Leader is to help all new students and their families form a strong first impression of Emory, as well as to help them acclimate to Emory student life.
It is one thing to have the knowledge of “the practice of mobilizing people to tackle tough challenges and thrive”. What I am persistent to do with that knowledge is what is important. My biggest take away is that I need to get on the balcony. By being on the balcony I can see that is it really the bold guy with the dance moves who starts the party, not the DJ. Silly to me that I never realized that is where I needed to be, that is where people could find me in a real life party. A year from now I hope that is still where I will be, looking for new data and learning more about myself in new circumstances. There will always be more to learn, although every once in a while I will have to intervene in situations that will make me uncomfortable. To carry on improving on the skills I picked up during the course of this class, it will be crucial for me to reevaluate the goals I set for myself. I plan to reset them all and provide myself with a timeline to achieve the goals. KU offers a minor in leadership studies and this classes is the foundation for all of those leadership classes to come. This class will be impossible to forget as I move forward in complete my minor. In a firm, management and leadership are important and needed. Leadership and management are similar. Actually, leadership and management are totally different. The leadership would influence the firm. The leader would have difference leadership styles to lead the subordinate.
I am applying to be an orientation leader because I want to make an impact on the Class of 2020. My experience so far at Bryant has been truly remarkable. I absolutely love this school and want to share some of my bulldog spirit with future bulldogs. Additionally, I had such an amazing experience at my orientation, and now I want to give the Class of 2020 an equally amazing experience. Speaking with previous Orientation Leaders, one thing they all spoke about was the incredible friendships they formed as an orientation leader. Being an Orientation leader would provide me with a tremendous opportunity to meet new people and form great friendships while making a difference in the lives of incoming Bulldogs.
There is a lot that I want to accomplish from my leadership practice, but initially I prefer to be very careful on implementing those. Each person has their own objectives to accomplish as a leader-scholar-practitioner. Similarly, I too have plans to implement. My plans that I want to accomplish as a leader-scholar-practitioner are as follows:
I define Leadership as a person’s ability to guide or shepherd a herd through/to a common destination – a destination of common beliefs. The leader possesses qualities/traits that can persuade others to follow them because they believe and trust them – regardless of their “human” traits and imperfections. The herd trusts that they will stay on course to the common destination.

Coming into this major I had no idea what to expect and the same went for this course, but I did know that it dealt with leadership, something that I have been steeped in for a good part of my life. So with that, it was hard to really set any goals as to what I would want to improve in with my leadership style but I was able to pin point a few aspects that could use some work through learning about different leadership techniques and methods. By learning about how leaders are formed, different approaches to leading groups and various aspects effecting group dynamics, I could determine an individuals or my own strengths in leadership and the methods necessary to effectively lead various types of groups. Also by observing many others in facilitating the after school program it gave me much more of an opportunity to see what works and what does not, this is an opportunity very few leaders get without being thrust into a role that they are ill prepared for.
It is Important to remain teachable before, during and after your leadership position. With leadership comes great responsibility. I have been blessed with a great work ethic, I was disciplined with as a Child and bringing it into my young adult years has helped me a lot. My passion has been in Early Childhood, my passion is what drives me to be the leader I want to be. Every leader should want to lead to where their followers surpass themselves.

I know I can do it, but it was very reassuring to hear it from another person who I respect very much. It also confirms the value of my decision to enroll in the Organizational Leadership degree program at CSU. Leaders can have a powerful impact on the futures of many, and the way in which one approaches leadership is paramount to the type of impact one will have. Continual growth in the areas of knowledge I have and seek to acquire, as well as recognizing my leadership style and utilizing my personal strengths to the fullest, is vital to the successful implementation of my personal philosophy of leadership.
Some people were born to be great leaders and some were born to be great learners. I ask myself this question, “How was I created?” Was I born a leader or was I molded to lead. As I explain my philosophy on how I want to lead, I will first dive into my past to recognize and pin point my creator. October 27th 2004 I raise my right hand in order to serve and protect the United State against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Leadership is one of the most important facets in organizations. In most cases, leaders act with respect to organizational culture as well as the codes of conduct that determine the manner in which leaders relate with subordinates. Leadership entails the use of effective communication skills to get activities done in the workplace and to ensure that employees shelve their individual interests for the sake of their organizations’ shared targets. It is the role of leaders to ensure that consumers attain high quality products and services by making certain that members of their firms’ workforce are fully motivated to work effectively and utilize resources in an efficient manner (Bass, 22). With the increasingly sophisticated nature of the corporate world, leadership should not be based solely on the desire to control and coordinate affairs within the workplace, but leaders should also exhibit positive examples and continually monitor the changing trends in corporate governance to initiate the most relevant guidelines. Competitiveness can only be attained when leaders are in a position to set the right standards in their firms and coordinate affairs appropriately by understanding consumer and employee needs.
