Self Respect

In Victoria, Texas I was a 16 year old looking for a job it was almost the end of summer and I was just about ready to give up when the phone rang one afternoon. It was the owner of the neat ice cream shop I had applied to at the beginning of summer. I was asked to come in for an interview so I threw on the nicest clothes I could find at the moment. I went down to the shop and everyone was friendly my boss seemed tobe the friendliest I remember I walked in he looked me in the eye and asked, “ When can you start working?” I was thrilled that I got the job right away and didn 't have to go through an interview process. My last interview was a nightmare, but I was going to start working at an awesome Ice Cream shop and it being my first job I was estatic. I learned how to be responsible. I had chores at work and it was my responsibilty not only to serve the customers, but make sure the shop was clean as well. At home I had chores, but here I felt like I had to be super mature and responsible for all if my actions. I couldn 't just say, “No I don 't feel like cleaning tonight.” It was an obligation and I learned that no matter where you are even at home it should be your obligation to make sure the house is clean as well. I remember my first day on the job I was so excited I culd barely stand it the shop smelt so good with freshly made cones and there was a crisp cool feeling when you walked into the building. Working with ice cream can get a little sticky and because of that you have to clean constantly otherwise you are going to slip and fall on ice cream or just get sticky. I cleaned after everything and that has stuck with me because now I have to make sure that everything is clean. I will always know the importance of taking responsibility for everything because of this
