My analysis will be on my current company Hydrochem LLM. During my short tenure here I have already begun to notice some strengths/weaknesses. Fortunately I have noticed more strengths than I have weaknesses so in all the company receives a high rating in my mind. One weakness that I will begin with is the fact that the company struggles to find good employees. Unfortunately due to the nature of our work which is industrial cleaning we do not catch the eye of top employees. Industrial cleaning can be a dirty job and be tough at times due to being in slicker suits to perform the work. As you know there are not many people out there that says I want to go to work for this company because I enjoy wearing a slicker suit when it is eighty degrees …show more content…
Unfortunately many of them walk away with the answers they do not want to here. Some of the answers are that work is slow and not a lot of money is coming into the branch. Raises are paid out of the branches separately so if that particular branch is not doing well this can effect raises and advancement. As you can see this makes it hard to keep good employees around. Just like many others the employees look for more money to provide for their families so they end up moving on to another company leaving these branches to struggle filling jobs when they do open up. My suggestion is that the company must do a better job of finding and securing jobs. In my past I have worked for companies that had salesmen constantly contacting customers to see if they could provide services to them. I have also seen field supervisors out talking with customers to look for work that can be performed. This is another weakness for this company. Sales is not at its …show more content…
When we begin hiring someone we spend about a week and a half training them for what they are going to be doing. Not only do we have class room time but, we also spend time giving the employees hands on training before placing them in the field. Once they are in the field working we have refresher courses and advanced training that they go through. However this is where we tend to run into a wall. We have crew leader and supervisor training courses but, they are not geared toward advancement so this is where the weakness I spoke about earlier begins. We have to take this time training our employees and molding them into the future of the company. Just like with any business we have employees that are getting into retirement age and not many employees to fill those roles when they do retire. So instead of reaching outside the company to hire we need to spend more time training our employees to step into these positions. A good example to this would be my current supervisor. He has plans to retire mid next years and currently I have not seen to many employees within the company that will be able to step up into his role. I have expressed me feeling towards wanting to possibly step up and take it over but, I have not received the training I need either. I do have the experience and knowledge to do the job however, I don’t have the knowledge of the company business of industrial cleaning other than the training I
Top management is spending too much time on employee development and not enough on the overall strategy of the business.
... on my job. Training has become more important then ever before. My company in years past would assign a trainer to a new technician for the initial start up of their career. After the new employees initial training, it was up to them individually to keep up with the minor changes that occurred. With the advancement of technology moving at such a fast pace, my company did in fact recognize this as a problematic issue that warranted some action. Today we have regular training sessions and are regularly provided with much needed manuals, updates and technical support. Those individuals who decline to adapt to a learning behavior are falling behind at a very fast rate and eventually lose their positions of employment.
The weakness I portray are very difficult for me to think of. I know that I have quite a few but to change them is something that I have not full conquered yet. A weakness I know I have is sentence structure. I am not very good at putting sentences together and making them strong and well developed. Another weakness that is obvious is word choice. I don't always know the exact wording to use in different parts of a paper, this makes it hard to understand sometimes not very well written.
What core competencies do you think the company has and what is needed to exploit opportunity and counter threats.
Training and development is essential to employee’s retention, loyalty and overall satisfaction. When employees feel there is opportunity within a company and diversity leading the way employees pride and productivity is enhanced.
-Training: understanding the job well enough to know who to hire and how well they are doing.
The main problems that are affecting the company were the high level of labour turnover, below target production rates, high levels of scrap, the employees had little input in the decision making, therefore resulting in low motivation and job satisfaction, and didn't have enough feedback on there performance. Added to this was the conflict between the supervisors and employees in the production and packing areas, and the grading and payment levels wasn't satisfactory to the employees.
3. The contributing factors to their ineffectiveness were poor planning and leadership. The company grew to quickly. In their desire to grow and expand, the company’s senior management did not establish and follow ethical practices that would sustain the company. Controls were not established in key places, such as, accounting practices and principles. Senior management failed to appropriately manage the activities of lower level managers and set a bad example.
The company has a clear lack of vision. This is because since the loss of Mr. McFettridge, the vision and plans he had are not known to anyone. This exposes the lack of structured top management. Also, the top management is having a lot of young employees which are accustomed to doing a clerical job. Their decision making skills are not developed due to improper mentoring. The work processes are more individual driven then system driven.
First determining the firms internal strengths, the paper will then provide a detailed analysis of its findings including how our company might capitalize from these outcomes. Next it will examine the organizational weaknesses and discuss possible ways to improve these conclusions. Then it will determine the companies opportunities including what possible actions are recommended and how ABC Complete Kitchens can capitalize on these advantages. Finally it will probe into probable threats, providing recommendations to mitigate these threats either by opportunity or strengths.
To combat these and other issues that can arise due to a lack of training, the development of a training program will wan...
First you need to identify the organization’s internal and external resources, organization’s strengths and weaknesses as compared to its competitors and the opportunities it has for better utilization of resources.
One example that I specifically need to work on is my emotional intelligence. While I am able to maintain my emotional stability I know I lack empathy for others and will need to work on that skill specifically when I become a supervisor. I am always willing to help others, but I try to stay out of the emotional aspect. That is where my type A personality kicks in an I will help on tasks not with the emotional aspects. If I had one weakness that affects my organization, the most that will be the one I need to improve. Not necessarily for the prisoners I deal with but the co-workers and subordinates. One other issues I can work on is my organizational skills and found out I am more of a procrastinator than I once thought. Not that I am a huge procrastinator it is a higher rating than I would like. I need to work on better time management skills, which will reduce work stress due to
A very important part of operating a successful organization is ensuring that the employees are effectively trained. Employees that aren’t properly trained, especially in a service organization, can have a negative effect on the customers’ experience. It pays off for employers to spend the time and money on training their employees. In the article titled Importance of Employee Training: 6 Reasons Why It Saves You Money, the author, Brian Benton, says “Employees who feel inadequate, underachieving, or unsupported are unhappy. They aren’t satisfied in their work, which will cause them to underperform, make mistakes, and not care about their work product. That costs the business in lost time and money.” (Benton, 2014). This paper will illustrate
