Even though children do not want to go to school more, the president of the school board should lower the amount of days children have on break because if they shorten the breaks by half, the kids would have more time to learn. School days should be extended to longer days while the school holidays are shortened down to six or seven weeks a year. If the president of the school board did this then not only will kids have more time to learn but parents would have time to work full time jobs.
“Some academies and free schools-which have more freedom to vary their operating hours- already keep their pupils in school for longer than state schools.” Says Michael Gove.( www.theguardian.com )
Also, in other places in the world kids go to school and almost never get a break. Michael Gove said, “ We’ve noticed in Hong Kong and Singapore and other East Asian nations that expectations of mathematical knowledge or of scientific knowledge at every stage are more demanding than in this country.” He also said, ” In order to reach those levels of achievement a higher level of effort is expected on behalf of students, parents, and teachers. School days are longer, school holidays are storter. The expectation is that to succeed, hard work is at the heart of everything.” ( www.theguardian.com) If the president of the school board did not lengthen the days at school and shorten the holiday breaks, could we end up working for the Chinese?
Schools in China go to school more often so they are more educated in math and science. The school board needs to lengthen American school days so students can catch up with them mentally. Students would have more time to learn what they don't understand and learn more stuff then they are now learning. Peggy Ho...

...sident of the school board should lengthen the school days and shorten the holiday breaks. It would give students time to learn new things and do more labs. It would also give our economy a better chance of catching up with other places in the world. Also it would give students a better education.

As the evidence shows that, "The Chinese value education as a stepping stone to success, and children - especially only children - are under a lot of pressure to excel in school. There is also an unspoken code of conformity, and there is a lot of pressure to fit in, for to be singled out is the penultimate in humiliation, causing students to 'lose face' in front of their peers. In addition to academics, parents also try and enroll their children in a wide variety of after-school activities to enhance their overall development."("History of Chinese Education, Five Necessities of Chinese Culture", Paragraph 2) This evidence shows not only teachers but also parents or students from China are still keeping the traditional mind to study. Thousands years ago in ancient China, schools are competitive, students needs to have high quality of studying and good relations with the school as well. Even they might feel stressful on learning when they are in elementary school. Nowadays, parents still think their kid must have the best education, more strong points. Childrens are learning lots of skills and knowledge when they are extremely young. In Canada, it's totally different. Students like team-work, they don't have bias on any schools. They study breezily without any pressure. So, more traditional makes Chinese education different from Canadian
The founders of the American public school system had a dream that all of America’s youth would have the opportunity to attend school in the best way possible for the times. The educational leaders of today must take up the same mission of providing the best school system imaginable for our modern era. Yearlong education is the solution to many problems that plague teachers, students, and school budgets.
My mom would always say, “American born Chinese students have it easy in America.” One key difference between the American education system and Chinese education system is the way they are taught. Being raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, I went to school to understand the idea of analyzing and understanding concepts. After reading Only Hope, I realized that their education is based on more memorizations. To Chinese students, understand the concept and apply it is not the most important, you must just memorize it for the exam. Many parents in China would say that going on vacation and relaxing is a waste of time because they need to focus on learning. In Greenspan’s article, it mentions that a student in China is the top of her class and is fluent in English, yet she cannot go on vacation because her mother wants her to spend time learning, many students in China
School days should be shorter fro students because they do not get enough sleep, have to much homework, and have barley have time to participate in extra curricular activities. A majority of students have sleep depravation due to school. If school would either start or end late students will have a greater opportunity to get more sleep. Teachers expect students to pay attention for 90 minutes while the night before they were up late finishing their homework for there classes. Some teachers do not realize that students have a life and work or have other obligations that take up a major portion of the students.
The school systems are constantly changing. New ideas are being tossed back and forth between school boards all over the country. Now they’re tossing around the idea of having 4-day school weeks, rather than a normal 5 day school week. Some think it is a terrific idea, saves funding in the educational department. Others think that parents will have issues with it, having to deal with extra childcare cost, also how will the younger children deal with the longer school days. This issue will effect, not only parents, but teachers, school bus drivers, and students etc.
School is usually a huge part of every child’s daily agenda. Teenagers in high school basically dedicate their entire day to school and homework. Students in grade 8 are similarly going through the same process as high school students. As students work 2 months after the Winter Break, some of them tend to start reducing their quality in their work. When we’re tired of doing school work for two straight months, why should we only receive a short March Break? Can’t the March Break just be one week longer, the same as the Winter Break? Students shouldn’t be limited to the amount of activities they can do during the March Break. Since the March Break is the last Break of the year, students clearly deserve two weeks of March Break rather than one. Furthermore, students should have the need to relax before the next three more months of school.
Imagine students becoming stressed with the abundant amount of homework they have to accomplish, complaining about the lack of time and fun enjoyable tasks they have to leave out. Currently, District 211 has a five day school week but having a four day school week eradicates these problems, which could have a positive mental and physical effect. Currently, the four day school week is being used in more than 120 school districts across the country, in states including including New Hampshire, Colorado, and New Mexico. Use of the four day school week also extends to several provinces in Canada, France, and Britain. Considering the amount of districts that are executing a four day school week it is most reasonable to assume that they have significant

Chinese education is depend on the population of China and National Higher Education Entrance Examination. Compare to China, where students have no choice but well perform well on test to be attend to college. American students have more choice to college such as community college or going to four year college after high school. Even though, American education is not doing well now, but there still has some good advantages. Therefore, America can keep their good advantages and creative new way to improve their education system. It better than emulate other countries education
Rybak: In a Chinese school the day is much longer than an American school day. This means that Chinese students spend a lot more time in school which brings us to the conclusion that Chinese are more advantaged than the American students in long run. This prepares them for college or even the young adult to be bio-lingual. Most American students usually attend school for seven hours each weekday and may forget what they have learned because it is instilled into the young adults’ heads like the Chinese do with their students.
However, i disagree i think that summer break for students should not be longer. Cause if summer breaks are longer than the students can forget about the stuff that they learned in school before their summer break. So there for summer break should be shorter. Cause if they are shorter than students wouldn't forget about the stuff they have learned and when the students go back to school they will remember what they did before summer break. If the students remembered what they did before summer break than teachers wouldn't have to teach the students much cause they would already know what to
Most children attend school for about 6.5 hours per day. Some people argue that this not enough time for children to master key concepts while others say that children spend too much time in school and on homework which leaves them little time for family or fun activities. “There are many benefits to year-round schooling—including consistency, less time spent relearning material, and the implications that year-round schooling has for closing the achievement gap” (Lynch, 2016, par. 1). Currently, more than 700 schools have extended their day. Massachusetts extended their school day so that it was 8 hours and found that they went up 44 percent in math,19 percent in science, and 39 percent in language arts (“Should students spend more time in
In “Extending the School Day or School Year: A Systematic Review of Research” authors Erika Patall, Harris Cooper and Ashley Batts Allen argue reasons why the school year should be longer. The amount of time spent in school directly effects how well students do in school. According to the authors study “Adding time to the school year or school day is at the top of the list of measures that have been hypothesized to improve achievement among U.S. Students”(401). The main reason why the authors believe that the school year should be extended is because there are now more things being taught to students and the extra time is needed in order to academically succeed. The authors state that years ago school years and days were both shorter because children us...
Within most countries, students strive to become doctors, engineers, lawyers, etc. Education in China requires students to attend school for 9 years without any objection. In the United States, Americans are encouraged to go to school. The government upholds the "no child left behind" policy which mandates students to attend school for at least 12 ye...
Some may say that adding a twenty minute rest period is illogical because schools would have to extend their days; students would be going to schools longer, so what’s the point? Well, studies show that on average school hours are from 6.22 and 7.17 hours. The average number of hours that schools are open is 6.93 (Education). In reality a twenty minute rest time is very reasonable with the average number of hours of school in America being so low, schools should use some of those extra hours in favor of the student 's well being. For example, adding a twenty minute rest time for kids to take a break, relax, and sleep to refuel before going to their next class; this is a better solution than loading students with homework on top of sleep deprivation and stress. “I agree with your theory, however, I do
