Good morning Brothers and Sisters! I’m excited to talk with you all about a topic that is so applicable to each of us. My talk is based on Elder Dale G. Renlund’s address “Maintaining an Eternal Perspective”. Before I go into my talk I want to pose a question that hopefully you will ponder about throughout the talk and really listen to the promptings of the Spirit, because He’s the true teacher. So the question for each of us is “How can I, as an individual, build my faith in Jesus Christ to have an eternal perspective?” Just remember that question throughout this talk.
Elder Renlund states that “When our day-to-day challenges loom before us, it is natural to focus on the here and now. But when we do, we may make poor choices, become depressed, or experience hopelessness. Because of this human tendency, prophets have admonished us to remember the eternal perspective. Only then can we successfully navigate mortality.”
So how do we have that eternal perspective?
The first step is to have faith in Jesus Christ. Ether explains that “faith is things which are hoped for and not seen.” He tells us to “dispute not because ye see not, for ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith.” We must first have the faith in order to make it through all things. And in order to have the faith, we have to go through trials and hardships to really test our faith. We will have moments that cause us to cry out to the Lord to “remove this cup from me” (Luke 22:42) but we must have the faith to say just as our Savior and Redeemer said “not my will but thine, be done.” When we have this kind of faith as our anchor, then we can make it through the storms of life. In Preach my Gospel it states that “when we have faith in Jesus Christ we trust ...

...the Holy Ghost. Elder Bednar in his April 2011 address on “The Spirit of Revelation”, states that “Sincere desire and worthiness invite the spirit... into our lives.” If we have a true desire for the Holy Ghost in our lives and are living our lives in a manner that we can have the Holy Ghost with us then He will be our companion. Just as the Lord works in small and simple means, we must also be worthy of the Spirit through small and simple means. This is done by the typical primary answers that are so key: praying to our Heavenly Father each day, reading our scriptures daily, partaking of the sacrament and going to all three hours of church, attending the temple, serving others with a pure heart, and truly living with a love for God in all things. With the Holy Ghost as our companion, we can have an eternal perspective in all things and we can arrive safely at home.

Essay on Personal Perspective on the Science Versus Religion Debate

- Personal Perspective on the Science Versus Religion Debate In Alfred North Whitehead’s “Religion and Science”, he nullifies the argument between the religious factions and scientists of the world by eliminating all grounds for the argument. He states “Science is concerned with the general conditions which are observed to regulate phenomenon; whereas religion is wholly wrapped up in the contemplation of moral and aesthetic values”(Whitehead, Religion and Science)....   [tags: Theology]
