I have not always been this way; I use to be selfish, rude, irresponsible, constantly wanted to be the center of attention and never had a care in the world. I was spoiled rotten; I had three loving parents, my older brother, a puppy, and just about anything, I could have wanted. I thought I had a “perfect” life, one that topped everybody else. Little did I know that my world was about to be turned upside down. My mother became extremely ill all of a sudden. My brother, step-dad and I did not know what was wrong with her. Finally, after we had accompanied her to the E.R. a few times we took her to multiple doctors. We went to several appointments day in and day out trying to find someone who could help her. So far, none of the appointments …show more content…
Vanderbilt’s doctors did all of the same tests, but they too came out empty handed. However, my mother convinced the doctors to take their actions a little farther to find out what the real problem was. My mother had persuaded the surgeons to do an open surgery. This surgery was strictly to cut her open and see what they could find. She and the doctors decided on a date to do the open surgery. The day of the surgery my brother and I had to be in school, we sat there for several hours hoping and praying that the doctors would find something and fix it. When school was over my step dad took us to the hospital to see our mother. The doctors came in shortly with the results from her surgery. It turns out my mother had scar tissue in her gastric region. However, when the doctors saw all the scar tissue it did not surprise them as to why all the tests came back negative for any abnormality or as to why she was in so much pain. Doctors are aware that scar tissue does not show up on any kind of test, thus the results turned out normal. I can still hear the doctors voice, “It is a good thing you came here when you did, because had you have gone another month without us catching it you would have died. Your scar tissue was so built up it was literally pushing on all your organs and it would have continued to expand and compress them to the point where they would have ruptured.” After hearing all of that I was …show more content…
As if those two procedures were not enough my mother also had hernia surgery a few years after she had Cameron and I. In addition, they too cut her on the same spot. Just when I thought that was, more than enough, turns out my mother also had a hysterectomy, and the previous doctors cut her yet again on that specific place. The outcome from being cut on the same spot so many times was a ton of built up scar tissue. Nonetheless, when the doctors did her hernia surgery they had to remove scar tissue at that time as well. Due to this situation, my mother ended up bed ridden for a few months. Before my mother was so ill that she had to be put on bed rest, she suffered for several months with the pain of her scar tissue. Somehow, she pushed through it like a veteran at war; she did not give up until all her strength was
About 82% of all surgeries at the Hospital are primaries. The remaining 18% involve recurrence of hernias repaired elsewhere. These are more complex,
Belle, a thirteen year old French girl lived at an orphanage in Troyes, France. She had lived there since she was only three years old since both her parents died from severe illness. Ever since she was a little child, Belle had one dream, and it was to become a professional ballerina for the Paris Opera Ballet Company. Dancing helped her express her feelings, whether they were feelings of joy, anger, or happiness.
The education system has been changing in recent years and the same problems that existed continue to get worse as years pass. Problems that were seen as minor at first have now grown. How to change the public higher education system has been a major topic of discussion but there has still been no major action taken. We struggle to figure out how much funding is needed for higher education and where it should come from. Our people continue to suffer from an underfunded high cost system. The wealthy minority of people continue to be the only ones accounted for and it is time to change this. We need to adapt to the changes and the costs that continue to rise. It is time to help the struggling middle and lower classes. I believe that the best
All awhile, my Grandmother was giving me a lecture on how important it was for me to go to school and get my education. Further, as I sweat talked my Grandmother out, I started to feel a mild pain in the lower part of my stomach. I did not bother to complain because I knew she was still annoyed with me from my earlier episodes. As the time passed by, the pain became so prominent. During lunchtime, my stomach hurt so badly that I could not eat. Not that I would have, school lunch was always nasty. However, it was different. Although my pain was almost unbearable, I still avoided calling my grandmother. I could hear her voice telling me she does not want to hear it. As the school day came to an end, my pain seemed only to get worse. I held onto my stomach as I walked to the car where my mother was waiting for me. I looked up just in time to see her roll her eyes at me. “What is the matter now, Melinda?” my grandmother said in a sarcastic tone. “Nothing,” I replied, figuring it would be a waste of my time to tell her I was really sick. I wanted to avoid another lecture. By supper time, I was wet with sweat and in so much pain that I could not move a muscle. All I could do was to lie in my bed in pain. My grandmother came up, and I could tell she acknowledged the pain I was in. Nevertheless, she was still hesitant to believe that I was in as much pain as I portrayed. Considering that I had this so many times before, I could not blame her for doubting me. She realized I was not joking when my body temperature read 104 degrees, and she had to rush me to the hospital. While at the hospital, I looked at my grandmother’s face and realized how hurting she was for not
What happened to my grandma? Well let me start off at the beginning. My grandma moved in with us around 10 years ago from California. She got lonely since we left California 3 years before that. For the first 7 years she was healthy and happy. We would go on walks together, bake cookies, and other things you do with a grandma. Then she started getting a pain in her abdomen. My mom and I rushed her to the hospital because she said she couldn’t take it anymore. We found out she had kidney stones. They told us they could easily remove them and after that we would be on our way home. I felt relieved. But I had no idea what was to come. Under further investigation they found cancer while performing the operation, they were able to remove it but a huge chunk of her abdomen was gone. They told us that she had to rest so most of the time she was in her
The day before my fifth birthday, Mother became ill. Now I know that it was because we did not have enough food. I remember she always ate last. We went to the local hospital but we were turned away because Father said the sign read 'local residents only.'
A lot of people don’t know that they have to do more with their education and get a good paying job. If you are declined a job that you know you will enjoy, but don 't have the college papers for a job can get disappointing. Some people are not inspired to go to college, and others can’t afford it. Other issues involved with the skills gap for jobs is the high requirements for that area of work, and peoples soft skills. High school is supposed to help you plan you for the real world, but not many classes help teach you the real world. This forms the skills gap in America, this stops people from being able to progress in today’s community.
I’ve always had a passion for helping others and I love the idea of being considered a dependable person. I enjoy when others come to me to talk about the hardship they are experiencing and being able to provide them with feedback or helpful advice. To do this I learned that you need to have the characteristics of a “people person”. You must be patient, which from my job experience of working in retail and the fast food industry, I would consider myself to be a highly patient person. I also posses the the skill of being outgoing and friendly. I allow myself to be comfortable when speaking with different types of people and I let myself open up so I can personally relate to them. By doing this I believe that others will return the comfort that I created and will want
Values will determine how you live and are affected by the world around us. They direct our daily life and help us to make choices in a situation when you are not sure what to do. They identify who we are and our beliefs and they molded our way of life. Everyone has his or her personal collection of values. Every person’s value differs from one other. These values are made up by way of one’s life experience, religious beliefs, heritage and family history. Values are the representation of a person’s moral guidelines.
The world is a vast place, separated by broken up landmass, but united by beliefs, languages, and similar interests. The world is made up of societies, but what exactly is one? The definition of the word society is, “the aggregate of people living together in a more or less ordered community”. In simpler terms, a society is made up of people, collectively and individually that decide what to make of it. So what does it take to make it a good one or a bad one? The answer is simple, but it’s also very hard to understand: the answer is the choices people make. It doesn’t sound very complex, but if you look at it at a wider plane, the fact that many choices form a community is quite baffling. In the books, “Warriors Don’t Cry” and “Jonathan Livingston
Being a teenager isn’t easy. You have a lot of things on your mind, a lot of things to worry about, a lot of things to carry and when I mean carry, I mean both physically and mentally. During the 17 years of my life that I have lived so far, I believe that I have never carried this much before. Part of it I think is because it’s senior year. Actually I think that 's the biggest reason why I feel so much pressure on my shoulders. I’m pretty sure that everyone can agree on this, especially if you’ve been through it before. I’m not talking to the adults of course because I know your lives are difficult and what not, but I’m mostly talking to the teens who are currently going through the same stage of life that I’m in right now. Now I’m not saying my life is difficult in any means because I know that I
Hi, my name is Rob Geis and I am currently in grade 12. I have been at County High School for a year now; I joined at the start of 11th grade, and have thoroughly enjoyed myself here. The school is great, the people are fantastic and the atmosphere is one that makes you actually want to go to school. Before I joined ASB I was studying at the Singapore American School for two years and prior to that I was at the International School of Kuala Lumpur for two years. I was born and raised here in Bombay city and grew up here.
If I owned my own school, it would reflect on all the positive features that my elementary and secondary schools offered me. Education opens minds that were closed, but now they are open because of the experiences the student had. Schooling gives you the materials you need to help in the work world and teaches you how to be a powerful member of society. Education is important because you are able to connect with teachers who become close to you. Community is just one aspect of a school that makes it powerful. Teachers are another aspect that can make the school significant. Instilment of positive values is final aspect of school that can make it influential too. My ideal school contains the aspects of what I have come from. All of these ideals
