I think it is brainstorming. I did the buzzer warm up in the class begin, Ms. Lamoreaux would gave us some questions. A part of those questions are about grammar and the other parts are some topics for the writing. We will have 5 minutes to finish the grammar questions or use the topic for free writing. I have studied English since I was a grade seven, but the curriculum in my middle school and high school years, mainly focuses on reading and speaking components of language skills, with a little focus on writing. As a result, I never felt confident with any piece that I was asked to write. Writing has been a hurdle for me to succeed in college since most of the courses in college requires one or the other way writing skill. Consequently, I have decided to work on my writing skills, and have started working on it; even before, I started taking this English 101 class. I used to use a various educational material which I thought might help me to meet my writing goal. Some of the materials which I was using includes: TOEFL educational materials, You Tube resources, and various novels. All of these resources have helped me to polish my writing skills. Furthermore, after I started taking this class, I have learned to enjoy writing. I have made it a point to communicate my own thoughts and feelings as opposed to simply summarize the thoughts of famous writers and authors before me. This class builds up my confidence in my own writing and for that I am highly appreciative.
Throughout this semester, I was able to learn many writing skill and was able to develop as a writer. When I found out that I was scheduled to be in English Composition I, I was very nervous as I have always felt that writing was one of the skills that I needed to improve on. Although I usually received good grades on my essays, I did not like writing them since it would always take me more than five hours to write a one page essay. If I wanted a good grade in English Composition I, I knew that I was definitely going to have to improve on my grammars. The main skills that we learned in this class were writing a clear thesis statement, paragraph structures, and sensory details. Through this class, I was able to attain more knowledge in these areas and gain confidence in my writing skills. The areas that I have improved on over the course of the semester are staying in the same tense, using
In the second essay I used the writing process and the outcome was way better. So I learned that so things are there to be learned and that will benefit you in college. Also I learned to be responsible when it comes to grades, turn in assignments due in class, and many other things. I learned this lesson because one day I didn’t turned in an assignment on time and the teacher said that it was a 0 for the day. In high school some teacher, like Ms. Perez, give the students the chance to turn in work the next day, but at that time I realized I was not in high school. So I got my schedule of homework on point and I decided to turn in all my college work on time. The outcome was good grades on assignment and not misunderstood with the instructor. “Be on time if you can’t be there early.” Said by Robin Sharma. Being on time is important to any individual, going into a date, to work and to class. You have to be responsible on be on time wherever they cited you, it is a sign of respect. One day my dad took me to get a new phone, knowing that I had college class. I was in Nuevo Laredo and it took a lot to get me my phone, so I arrived to class late. The students where already taking an exam. I asked Mr. Benavides “what
As a second language learner I have never expected myself to be a perfect writer throughout the semester. Even If English was my first language still, I would not be a perfect writer. It is not about first or second language, it is about how well I understand the learning objectives. Then organizing and writing with my own ideas and putting them in my paper. I am going to be honest, I am not good at English subject and English subject is my strongest weakness than the other subjects. In this paper I will discuss and analyze my own writing, reflecting on the ways that my writing has improved throughout the semester.
Over the years of my schooling, I have gradually developed my writing preparation to help me become a better writer. I continue to find ways to improve my writing abilities by working on my weaknesses and by incorporating the feedback I receive from my peers and my instructors into my essays. At times, I still struggle when preparing to start my essay, but with precise and organized planning and obtaining the help of others, I am certain that I will become more proficient in my writing
Being able to write efficiently is really important for any persons who consider themself such as a writer. Writing essays aren't easy, and while books help to improve writing they will not do much for essay writing. I always had a passion for writing but I don't consider myself a very good writer. I really started writing when I was in high school. I had no talent for writing but I had a willingness to grow and surprise some teachers that I loved. My two last years of high school, I was very lucky to have some very extraordinary teachers whom help me a lot with my writing. I loved to read and write and gradually they allowed me to have a special relationship with them, extremely enriching exchanges, not only from a cognitive point of view but also in human terms. In this essay I will give the reasons why I don’t think I am a writer.
Every person has their own unique way of writing which makes their writing stand out among the other people’s writing. Weather a person’s writing is full of high leveled vocabulary to a person use of complex sentences. Throughout the semester I had many times where I felt that my writing was weak at certain points or at times where my writing skills to started to improve. The major assignments and the short answer responses helped improve my skills as a writer. Even though all three major assignments helped improved my writing skills, the one that had the most effect in my writing was the report essay as it helped discover new methods while also the short answer response number 4 helped me to analysis images in an aspect that I did not know before.
I improved on many aspects of my writing throughout the duration of this class, but there are still some things I need to refine. Over the course my writing skills have gotten better due to the instructor’s feedback, peer reviews, and just me learning. I enjoyed peer reviews because sometimes it is easier to relate to someone my own age. The overall structure and flow of my essays have improved, as well as the use of word choice and quotations. Throughout this course, I was able to apply critical thinking and reading skills to different texts, compose essays with appropriate content development and organization, use correct style by practicing the steps of the writing process, and reflect on my own development as a writer. However, I still need to work on demonstrating correctness, including punctuation, mechanics, and
Evidently, many writing assignments have helped me as a writer. All four of the essays we have written throughout the course has helped me become more of a critical thinker and put more thought into my writing. With writing essay, I stress much with how to introduce the essay and end the essay. All of my thoughts usually don’t come until the day before the essay is due. By doing different workshops in class like the introduction and thesis statement than creating the outline, helped me break the essay into parts and take it one step at a time.
I can honestly say I am a horrible reader and a writer at the same time. My goal for this essay was to reflect on what I learned. From analyzing my writing, I can assure that I have problems understanding the question. In order for someone to learn how to be better at something it is by practicing. That’s what this class has taught me. From my first essay having to choose a topic and finding an answer to this problem Martinez, Magdeli” Exloratory.”2017. Which seem like an easy topic that had a lot of work to do To my second essay which I had no idea what I was doing. Since I have never done that type of essay before. That’s what I like about this writing class. Been challenge putting myself in a position that makes me think about the topic.
Personally, I believe that I have gained valuable knowledge in my English classes. Recently, I am about to end my third English course of college and it has been a good experience, those courses helped and influenced a lot in my writing. I believe I did more than just improve my writing skills. I received some rhetorical and genre knowledge, and learned about the writing process and how to appropriately enter a conversation without losing my own style of writing.
One thing I learned in writing class this year is what I do that I am good and not good at writing. For instance, I learned what my strengths were. I have found out from the many pieces I have written that backing up my arguments with strong details, examples, and quotes has been something that I have been good at. I have realized this because I did really well on my community leader’s persuasive essay where you were to convince the leaders to use the money to what you think. I did a really good job and I realized that I was good at supporting. Maybe I should do speech and debate. Secondly, I found that I have some weaknesses. “Success is achieved by developing our strengths, not by eliminating our weaknesses.” This quote by Marilyn Savant is really what sums up writing abilities. I have never been able to write creatively, only informational. I have not yet developed the ability to combine those two to make it “fun” yet informational. Sometimes, my greatest strengths come from my weaknesses. Finally I have learning the type of writing I like the best. Persuasive and informational are the two types of writing that I excel in. I am a person who does not think outside of the box; I just focus on the f...
During the course of the semester, all of the writing and research skills I developed helps to strengthen my self-confidence in many areas and it aids me in achieving my goals for the future. By developing more effective research approaches for finding and citing sources, I advanced from an inexperienced writer to a confident writer with the suitable knowledge to create effective essays to capture my audience. Having confidence in my abilities to use the skills I learned will help me to become a success in college. With more practice and valuation of my strengths and weaknesses, I can continue to improve and become an excellent communicator in the future.
