Looking back to the beginning of 7th grade English class I now realized of all the great things I have accomplished this year for English class. I am proud of how hard I worked this year and how my English has gotten better. I am proud to have been part of Ms D's English class and she is a phenomenal teacher. I think that one day I will be able to work as a English teacher like Ms D or I will become a journalist. Although I must say that when I first entered English class I had so many different thoughts. The first thought was about the teacher. I didn?t know if I would have been able to get along with Ms. D because she had looked like a professional person in which doesn?t play around. I was nervous but I knew I would have to try my best to get along with her. When class began I saw how Ms D loved to make her students write essays and that is what I knew I was good at. I saw how she was organized and she wasn?t strict nor she wasn?t mean. Ms. D was actually pretty great and funny. When class had first began I felt strong about my reading because my father used to make me read the newspaper about the age of 5 years old and at home I would have to speak loudly and clearly in front of her or else the things in which I wanted wouldn?t be granted in front of me. I knew that I wasn?t perfect but I knew that I would have to work on my vocabulary because in my country we usually didn?t speak proper English and I knew that the way that you talk is the way you would normally read and it?s the way you would write. Two things in which I learned this year and I think will be important is to not repeat myself when writing and if your introduction paragraph is not engaging to any readers no one would want to read your essay and it introduces the part of your writing. I also learned that quotes go around something in which a person says and that when there is a new paragraph with quotes around it means that a new speaker is talking. S Symbolism is an object that stands for something or someone. Looking back to the beginning of the year I can see that I was a natural writer and reader. I am confident to move onto 8th grade. There were so many techniques that Ms D introduced us to and it can definitely help us to be a better reader and writer. I will definitely miss Ms. D next year. My reflections are shown in this essay.
Although, I have been a good student at school, I always have struggles doing my homework like any other student. Sometimes, it is difficult to me to understand my assignments; however, I always try to obtain a knowledge from my courses. In this case English 111, like any other course left a mark on my academic and personal life.
‘I am going to fail’ was the very first thought that crept into my mind on that very first day of class. Before I stepped into the classroom on the first day, I felt pretty good about my writing. I had done previously well in English, and didn’t think this class would be much of a challenge. This all changed on the first day of school, when my professor talked about the level of reading and writing expected for this class. I remember thinking ‘I don’t read, why couldn’t I have been born someone who likes to read?!’ Since this moment on the very first day of class, I have grown immensely through hard work. My first college English class was ENC 1101 at the State College of Florida. In this course, I learned a vast amount of information about writing, reading, and grammar. When I first walked into ENC 1101 in August, I expected the class to be like any other English class in High School; with rushed busy work and a lot of useless tests and quizzes. However, throughout each week of the semester, Professor Knutsen’s class made me beg to differ. This class was not like any other high school English class. I consider myself to be a hard worker when I study and work, who honestly loves school. My favorite classes of 8th grade are honors geometry AB, Investigation and Science & IED. I love these classes because when I solve problems experiment it feels like it's a big puzzle that is in need to be put together and I'm a person who likes to figure things out. I believe that my interactions in these classes are to be a cooperative learner and I participate in the class or group discussions. Throughout the semester i only learned few new things but i did improve and solidify my skill of writing. Before my first year of college my skills have always undermined by other high school english teachers and with that came disappointing grades. I am writing this paper as a reflection of the semester and the progress i have made as a writer. I now understand many things that my high school teachers have done a poor job demonstrating and i am grateful that i decided to take my own route in my education instead of their syllabus. I entered the semester with anxiety that i would perform as i did before but i clearly outdid my own expectations by receiving top grades on my essays.
My weaknesses before coming into English 101, was difficulty in constructing the thesis statement and my thoughts would be all over the place, there was no flow in the essay. This semester I’ve learned several things throughout English 101. I’ve learned different writing techniques, transition words, how to find resources online and using them effectively, and MLA formatting. I’ve learned these skills from class work and essays assignments. Although I still need more improvement, I’ve become a better writer because I’ve learned how to properly create a strong thesis statement, and making the essay flow with organized ideas by using outlines. However, I still have to improve on the following skills, word diction, grammar, and citations.
I was extra early to class, at lunch I would tell everyone about the books I was reading, and then during recess I would sit and write everything I saw. By the end of the year, I was reading, speaking, and writing English, and I was only getting better. In the summer, I practiced reading, speaking and writing in fear that I’d fall behind, but to my surprise, I worked so hard, I was asked to skip the second grade. My principle told me that my reading and writing levels were so high, I could be taking third-grade classes, but I decided not to. Although I know there is still much to improve on in my writing, I feel as though I have made tremendous strides for my first semester. I have grown as a writer, and I believe I have the potential to be a great writer. Throughout my many years left here at The College of New Rochelle, I will continue to work hard so that my final year here at the college I can look back at my writings from freshman year to see my improvement. Writing 101 has boosted my confidence and has made me a better writer today. I will take this confidence along with determination to my writing 102 class, and I hope the professor will continue the molding process that Professor smart has started.
Life is made up of choices. We chose to go to school, choose to be brave and most importantly we choose to smile. I've never been the person to be open emotionally, when it comes to opening up I find the quickest way to change the subject. Middle school was like going through the Mean Girls movie, without the miraculous happy ending. I was lost, an outcast. Have you ever smiled for the wrong reason? Smiling has always been easier than explaining why I'm sad, sometimes all I could do was smile and hold back my tears. I had smiled for so long I didn't know if it was real or not, I thought if I smiled long enough I would forget about being sad, but it only worked for a little while. I came to a new school trying to start a new life by changing the girl people thought was annoying.
Middle School for me was exciting and a little overwhelming but I got through it. First of all, In middle school, they have a lot of frustrating work, which causes me to have horrible headaches and have a lot of stress. Second of all, The people here are very welcoming and fun to be with, and they make feel comfortable in my school. Third of all, The rumors I heard from my friend were horrible, but when I was in Quail hollow for a month or two, the rumors weren’t real, it was the opposite thing that I expected. In conclusion, Middle school is a great place to be but it was something that I didn’t expect.
I had passed through almost all three years of my middle school life and had done absolutely nothing to remember my last year there. The 7th-period bell had rung and I was on my way to my p.e class just keeping to myself as I speed walked all the way across campus to the boys' locker room. After rushing to get my uniform on I once again speed walked over to my roll call spot and stood there patiently waiting for the teacher to arrive. As I was waiting I noticed that something was different in fact, because there were two large wrestling mats laid out across the floors of the gymnasium. There are many different types of events that shape who we are as writers and how we view literacy. Reading and writing is viewed as a chore among a number of people because of bad experiences they had when they were first starting to read and write. In my experience reading and writing has always been something to rejoice, not renounce, and that is because I have had positive memories about them.

When I was young my life didn 't start like other kids. I was brought up in a shack deep in the Colombia’s dark jungles. My family didn 't have much opportunity to go to school due to the lack of money. When my parents had pass away I was put into an orphanage and was able to go to school. I was to old to be placed in kindergarten so they just put me in first grade. Had no clue what school was or what it would be like?
Looking through my past submissions and pieces of work throughout this past semester, I have made many realizations in regards to my progress as an English student. Through re-reading my writing, and reviewing the feedback I have received on my writing, I can recognize my growth as an English student. In addition to realizing my growth, I am also able to see a lot of areas that still need work. This past semester I have faced many challenges, I have pushed myself to go outside of my comfort zone, and I have excelled in several areas. After analyzing my past works from this semester, I have identified many re-occurring strengths and weaknesses from each unit, as well as challenges and goal assessments for myself in the future.
