Personal Narrative of A Medical Illness Genogram As I created my Genogram, I was filled with several emotions. Obviously, being in my family I am aware of the different illnesses one has faced or are currently facing; however, seeing the amount of illness displayed in the venogram I was able to visually see the amount of illness that runs in my family and it was alarming to see. In my family there haven been many deaths ands illnesses that include asthma, diabetes, arthritis, cancer, obesity, chronic kidney disease, hypertension and hypothyroidism. Thus in this personal narrative I will include personal beliefs and values about death and illness, intergenerational transmission of these beliefs and values, affects that these illnesses have had on my …show more content…

death and illness is always hard to deal with but they make you stronger in the long run at least that has been my experience. When I was growing up there was an argument amongst my parents and other family members that placed a drift among family members. I remember when my aunt died, I was very young and I remember not having contact with her but after she was diagnosed with cancer the entire family put their differences to the side in order to support my aunt. Due to her illness my family was united once again. When my aunt died she left behind four children; her children were taken in by other family members to take care of which showed me how to step up , be a leader, proactive and being able to make difficult disicions when it is needed. Also having experienced a death and the affects of an illness in the family better prepared me for the death that I would experience in the future. Moreover I learned that it is important to help others in need no matter what even if they do not deserve it; it is important to put your differences aside in order to get through the difficult moments and that is what I had done all my
