We have all been to the point in our life where we have to decide where it is that we want to go to school. When the time comes to make this decision, messing up could possibly bring your dream career to an end. That is why I must choose extremely careful. I should go to Morrison Institute of Technology for a degree in engineering rather than Illinois State University and Southern Illinois University. Morrison Institute of Technology sounds like it is more geared toward engineering degree; therefore, I should definitely get my engineering degree at Morrison Institute of Technology.
When deciding between 2 well known colleges and MIT, it’s important to analyze exactly what it is that I want to do. But, it is just as important to know exactly what courses and skills the college will provide. ISU has been ranked 152nd in the 2014 edition of Best Colleges (“Illinois”). At ISU, undergraduates have dozens of degrees to choose from like several types of engineering, doctors degrees, and a lot of different bachelors degrees ("Mechanical"). They also have PhD’s there, but that doesn’t relate to engineering. Others are probably thinking this is the college to go to; for me, probably not. SIU has a lot more hands on experience than ISU does, getting you better prepared for the job you will take out of college ("College"). They give you the classroom experience you need, but hands on work is a priority for the classes at SIU. Another plus about SIU is that they allow you to play with your examples. An example would be that you could take a mechanical engineering related course, but at the same time you could also take biomedical engineering and computer hardware engineering. These 3 colleges are amazing but there is one that matches with my ideal college the best, the University of Michigan. The University of Michigan compares very well next to my ideal college. It has a great pre-med program, it is the cheapest of all of the three, has great sports, and offers many financial aid programs. The University has a large campus and a medium size student body. There is no religious orientation and it has the highest rate of admission. This is why the University of Michigan is the perfect match to my ideal
College admissions are crucial a student’s senior year of high school. There are many requirements that need to be satisfied in order to qualify for admissions into certain colleges and universities, as well as the checklist to apply to each school. Hopefully, as a junior the student prepared by taking the SAT/ACT, and visiting at least a handful of potential colleges. By the start of senior year, the student must complete a separate application on ApplyTexas.org for each college which becomes quite tedious, then submit high school transcripts, shot records, admission essay(s), and SAT/ACT scores. Although it may be optional additional letters of recommendation from teachers, coaches and employers should be sent along with proof of volunteer work submitted as an extra precaution. These things show the college more about the individual, and allow the student to have more time to capture their reader’s attention. When it comes down to choosing a college or a university to attend, the decision may be hard to make. Students often compare differences and similarities in their college experience between small and big schools when it comes to looking more into the learning environment, housing opportunities, and the entertainment provided.
Nowadays, many people seek higher education for a better advantage in finding a job and getting a better life. Even though many people think going to a four year university directly from high school is a good idea; they are wrong. Starting out at a two year college is more affordable. Also, it helps people explore careers and prepare people to do better in four years universities later down the road.
As a low-income student in high school, I used my application fee waivers, to apply to four Cal State Universities and four University of California schools. I did not apply to any private universities, for the simple fact that I lacked guidance and information about the schools as well as the probability that I would be accepted to such schools. When I was denied from my top choice (the University of California, Los Angeles), I decided to attend the best school I was accepted to—the University of California, Santa Barbara. In the following section, I will discuss the individual, societal and cultural influences in my college choice process that led to my decision to attend UCSB.

The first step, in deciding my degree, was determining which degree I would pursue. As a way to determine my degree, I took the SAT, which informed me of my aptitudes. I learned that I had a very high understanding of mathematics and critical reading. After figuring out my skills, I began researching degrees that were complimented by my talents. The degree that best fit my skills and the high income that I wished to obtain was chemical engineering. Next, I researched the universities with the best engineering departments. Resultantly, I narrowed down the colleges in which I was going to apply to. My top three choices were Texas A&M University, the University of Texas, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. During high school, I did not have to study as hard as I do now that I am in college. Usually, I would be able to study the day before the test and score a hundred percent. Although, occasionally, I would be able to skip a few classes and get the notes from a classmate or of course, resort to guessing. However, now that I am in college, the lectures require much more attentiveness and are more complex: composing more information, meaning that one has to proportion time more responsibly and take an advantage of good study habits. My learning skills have made a complete transformation since I have been in college. I learned new things and I actually enjoy learning new things. Nevertheless, these changes required a lot of self control and practice. Going through these experiences have changed my entire persona about learning such as study habits, being more attentive during classes, and going through greater extents to succeed in certain classes.
The biggest piece of advice I would give to an incoming student is “You get what you put in”. Now I say this because my first semester of college was an experience that I disliked. Something that I did wrong was, I only went to class then went home. At the time I felt it was best to give my education all of my attention. It was like this for five days a week from August to December. I began to question if college was for me, and if I even belonged anywhere. I felt alone, clueless, and unimportant to the campus. I wasn’t use to feeling like this I was always in extracurricular activities, meeting new people, having close relationships, and being employed.
