Christmas has always been a day full of surprises. Every Christmas there is something special that I look forward to, but one Christmas stands above the rest. This day will forever be in my heart as the best Christmas I have ever had, for good reason too. I received a gift that has become my haven for when times get tough. Ultimately, when I look back to that special Christmas, I realize that humans all around also have a “haven,” a way to escape reality, and my escape from reality is video games.
My family has absolutely no patience. In fact, every Christmas when we gather for our family dinner on the 24th, we always end up opening gifts that night. As soon as the clock strikes twelve, we are allowed to open gifts. The last hour always feels like an eternity, so much that my siblings and I have started a tradition of watching Disney movies in order to cope with the anxiety. When it’s finally time to open gifts everything feels jolly, and every gift is always something special. Then one Christmas, I received the best gift possible; I got my first gaming console, the PlayStation 1. ...

Essay on Personal Narrative: My Peace Corps Experience

- It was the same thought process almost every morning on my way to work. There I was, a recent college graduate driving to a low-paying position that I was certainly overqualified for. While I knew that the job was temporary, I could not help but think of my former classmates who were embarking upon careers which offered comfortable salaries and benefits. Feelings of inadequacy, fear, and self-doubt would overcome me. Yet, as I would begin to ask myself, “what am I doing with my life,” I would merge onto I-496 in Lansing and the answer would come into view....   [tags: Personal Experience, Autobiography]

My Personal Experience Learning to Golf Essay

- Many people take up Golf thinking that it is easy, after all, how hard can it be to hit a little white ball with a stick. This thinking evaporates the first time they step onto a driving range and attempt to hit that little white ball. Golf is not easy by any stretch of the imagination. My experience with golf began in May of 2005 when friends came to stay with us; my wife informed me that I would have to take Roy, her friend’s husband Golfing. I had not been to a driving range (since I was in my teens) and I had never played golf on a course before....   [tags: Personal Narrative, Personal Experience]

Essay about The Perfect Workday

- I arrived at my office today at 10:00am, armed with a Starbucks cappuccino, a Fiji water bottle, and my laptop. I am greeted with a sweet smell of vanilla initiating from a glade plug-in. I look out the window and see massive buildings, hundreds of tiny cars whoosh in all directions, and I see people that are dashing among the busy sidewalks of New York. Above it all is a perfect clear and sunny sky that just happened to brighten my mood just by looking at it. . I sip on my cappuccino while thinking about today‘s appointments....   [tags: Personal Experience Essay]

Essay on Personal Values and my Air Force Experience

- I was only nine years old, but I can almost still feel the bitter cold and the excitement in the thin air while sitting in the stands in the Rocky Mountains. The rivalry between the two Service Academies was at an all time high as the coveted Commander in Chiefs trophy was still up for grabs. Although the battle ensuing on the field between the two foes was formidable, it was the battle upon what to do with my life that was of greater consequence. The outcome of the game is now forgotten but the impression that the young servicemembers left would forever be etched in the back of my mind....   [tags: Personal Narrative, Personal Experience]

Personal Narrative- Amazon Experience Essay

- Personal Narrative- Amazon Experience Being a curious little twelve year old who was eager to discover the world, when my father asked me back in 1997 if I wanted to travel to Colombia, I jumped on the opportunity. Little did I know just how much I would be discovering. Colombia held sights, sound, and smells that I had never experienced. Crowded city highways with no marked lanes, the stench of lead exhaust filling the overcrowded streets of the capitol, the freshness of the Andean Mountains filling the country air....   [tags: Personal Narrative]

Personal Statement Essay

- The past may pave the future, but dreams create the direction that it leads. As a toddler, I experienced painful ear infections, which resulted in deafness before the age of two. I regained my hearing after surgery, but I did not know how to talk. I was in speech therapy for years. Besides ostracism from my peers due to my speaking difficulties; the teachers put me on a pedestal and held my work as the standard for everyone else. I was constantly separated from my classmates. The adversity shown me in life has caused me to become stronger and allowed me to recognize my desire to work in the medical field as a pharmacist....   [tags: Personal Experience]

Personal Statement Essay

- Growing up as the son of a rural Iowa veterinarian, I got my first experience in a medical field while riding along with my dad on calls, and from an early age my interest was piqued. It was the first of multiple experiences that pointed me toward a career in physical therapy. In my elementary and junior high years, a couple of elderly neighbor ladies often called on me to help them with chores around their homes and yards. This is where I first discovered my love of working to help others. It was rewarding beyond any payment to know that I was helping them live independently a little longer, even if I was only playing a small part by doing their odd jobs....   [tags: Personal Experience]

Personal Statement Essay

- It was a cold autumn night in North Carolina when I realized that my youth was being taken away from me. I wanted to run away and go back to the life that I had known; where I had the opportunity to go to school was happy and understood the language. Instead I was in a foreign land with my family and we could not return for there was no future in my homeland. According to my father, we had to keep migrating because it was the best thing for our family. Personal Statement Essay

- Personal Statement: My transition from high school to college was not flawless; the first two semesters were academically frustrating. In high school, I was successful with minimal foresight. I quickly found that this was not the case in college. While my first semester grades were not terrible, I knew it was not my personal best. Despite increased efforts, I completed the second semester with a GPA lower than my first. Although my course load was heavy, the classes challenging, and my schedule full of outside rehearsals, I wanted to improve....   [tags: Personal Experience]
