The executive sessions should have been held on the basis of project performance norms and key project milestone dates. By doing so this would eliminate monthly meetings, meetings would occur when a phase is completed (South University Online, 2016, para. 2). By eliminating monthly meetings this would allow employees more work time to focus on their work tasks instead of preparing for the executive meeting. This would also eliminate the need for overtime and working weekends, since the employees could focus more on their work. Also, the meetings would not have to be so time consuming because not every project milestone might not involve every project manager, so not everyone will need to give a presentation. There are four values that form the foundation of this code. These values are responsibility, respect, fairness, and honesty (PMI, 2016, p.2). These are the underlying international and global values of the PMI’s code. Aspirational vs. Mandatory The PMI’s ethical code consists of two different set of standards, which are the aspirational and mandatory standards. The aspirational standards are used to describe the conduct that practitioners strive to uphold (PMI, 2016, p.2). Well mandatory standards are firm requirements that even prohibit certain behavior (PMI, 2016, p.2). A practitioner will work to obtain aspirational standards, but must uphold mandatory standards at all time. An example of this would be responsibility according to aspirational standards would be making decisions in the best interest of society and the enviornment (PMI, 2016, p.3). The messaging in both the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) and Canada’s Health Informatics Association (COACH) Code of Ethics are very similar. They both discuss prioritizing privacy and security, set an expectation of maintaining a professional and collegial work ethic, encourage the continuing of education and building of one's knowledge base and both refer to a focus on the awareness of future developments/advancements within the industry. My initial preference was the CHIMA Code of Ethics as I preferred the phrasing and third person approach, however, upon further review I noticed that CHIMA’s used the word ‘strive’ instead of COACH’s approach of ‘I will’. This to me seems to have less impact then the COACH counterpart.

Personal integrity and accountability enable me to make sound judgments to avoid engaging in actions that will hurt me and/or other people around me. Responsibility is important to me as it enables me to identify the part I need to play in my family, at the workplace, and in the community. Lastly, ambition and determination are applicable in providing me with the momentum needed to ensure that all my initiatives and tasks are done to completion.

I have chosen the business profession topic of higher education administration. I am extremely familiar with this profession; as it is the job that I currently hold. There is a plethora of different activities and task that are dealt with on a daily basis within this profession. Some of these items consist of assisting both full and part time staff and faculty, maintaining order within budgets and finance, including all purchase orders and check requests, facilitating student awards, including scholarships, staffing and training within the department, as well as dealing with public policy and laws within the college. It is immensely obvious that this job would keep anyone busy. This alone is one of the reasons I love this profession so much. Each day brings something new, and important group of items to accomplish. Anyone who holds this job, would go into work everyday knowing that the tasks that they are about to perform, will create a difference to not only to the departments and its students, but will also make a difference within the entire college. This person alone has the responsibility of making ethical decisions every single day as well as watching out for others who may need help being pointed in the proper ethical direction based on their knowledge of the school’s ethics plans that have been put in place. If someone were unaware of the ethical standards in this profession, there is a lot of room for things to head in a corrupt direction rather quickly.

For example, regularly scheduled meetings produce higher productivity due to fewer interruptions between meetings (Theisen, n.d.). They also allow risks and concerns to be raised to both the team and the managers. In Ben Williams’ case, he sees a pattern occur when the staff are not all on the same page when it comes to projects. Perhaps this is because Williams doesn’t believe in meetings being effective and only communicates to the staff when a change is needed.
