The executive sessions should have been held on the basis of project performance norms and key project milestone dates. By doing so this would eliminate monthly meetings, meetings would occur when a phase is completed (South University Online, 2016, para. 2). By eliminating monthly meetings this would allow employees more work time to focus on their work tasks instead of preparing for the executive meeting. This would also eliminate the need for overtime and working weekends, since the employees could focus more on their work. Also, the meetings would not have to be so time consuming because not every project milestone might not involve every project manager, so not everyone will need to give a presentation. There are four values that form the foundation of this code. These values are responsibility, respect, fairness, and honesty (PMI, 2016, p.2). These are the underlying international and global values of the PMI’s code. Aspirational vs. Mandatory The PMI’s ethical code consists of two different set of standards, which are the aspirational and mandatory standards. The aspirational standards are used to describe the conduct that practitioners strive to uphold (PMI, 2016, p.2). Well mandatory standards are firm requirements that even prohibit certain behavior (PMI, 2016, p.2). A practitioner will work to obtain aspirational standards, but must uphold mandatory standards at all time. An example of this would be responsibility according to aspirational standards would be making decisions in the best interest of society and the enviornment (PMI, 2016, p.3). This should include informing the businesses when along with how long sections of the road will be shut down and providing information on how customers can access their stores. If the businesses where informed of how long their customer traffic will be disrupted they would have been able to plan accordingly. Also, the project manager’s process should include a contact in the town council in which they would report to at a scheduled point in time about the progress of the project and to address any concerns.
