In this world of rapid expansion of technology, there has been a strong need for people to keep up with the challenging requirements of the world of electronics. The present and future demands have increased at an exponential rate where it has become challenging to keep up with the demands of the world. Electrical engineering has a lot to do with math, so those seeking to become an electrical engineer must love math and lots of it. Although there are lots of different types of engineering fields to get into, a degree in electrical engineering is designed for those who want to utilize their skills in the world of electronics. Not all colleges offer engineering programs, but the few colleges that do offer electrical engineering in the United States need to be ABET accredited. This just means that the engineering program offered by the college follows a structure that meets the same standards across other colleges offering the same degree. This helps keep those who graduate with a bachelors in electrical engineering with the same standardized education to be able to be ready for the workforce in the states in a unified manner. A lot of companies out there, looking for electrical engineers, look to see what college an individual attended. Even though with the ABET accreditation in place, employers are very particular about where most of their employees will be coming from. Well, this is the time when one can actually say that they will need that algebra they learned in school now. Since the world is ever evolving and new technological advances are becoming in great demand, it is time to apply what was learned in college, and the experiences gained while in college, to use in the real world. There are all kinds of new and innovated electronics, this world could use for everyday consumption. From the article that Fiore wrote, she states “The latest generation of engineers has a range of innovative fields, like alternative energy, green engineering, and nanotechnology, to motivate them” (51). With so many avenues to take to in the world of electrical engineering, no one is bound by limits of what’s known but only limited by their own imagination. Even if an engineer is not coming up with some mind blowing idea to take us into the future, some engineers are going to make our current technology even better and more efficient. Take for example the large cathode ray tube televisions of the past to the present day lightweight flat screens. Electronics have come a long ways from what they started out as to what they are now because of electrical engineers. The Bureau of Labor Statistics defines an electrical engineer as someone that “designs, develops, tests, and supervises the manufacturing of electrical equipment such as electric motors, radar and navigation systems, communications systems, or power generation equipment.” Electrical engineers work with but are not limited to electricity, electronics and electromagnetism (What Do Electrical Engineers Do?). These engineers can work in labs, offices or on the floor of some major industries. Electrical engineers may solve problems on a day to day basis or they might develop new technologies to benefit everyone. Typically they work and develop new projects that may include gaming systems, cars or even robots. Electrical engineers average a salary of $87,180 a year and is a great field choice due to the innovation of this career (Bureau of Labor Statistics).
Electrical engineering is a field that majorly involves the use of technology in the designing, developing, and testing electrical devices. Majors in electrical engineering focuses on the physics of electricity and magnetism, analysis and design tools of engineering, and circuits and system mathematics. If one takes a course in engineering, they are trained on how to design and make products, which are safe and can enhance human life. This course is not popular to many for it is very demanding and involving; therefore many beginners feel that they are not prepared. As a result, many joining the course find it challenging hence a large number end up dropping (Dan, 55). In order to solve such issues, the idea of using of concepts from popular disciplines like music in engineering was adopted.
The responsibilities and tasks of a electrical engineer is to work of many projects, such as computers, robots, cell phones, cards, radars, navigation, systems, wiring and lighting in buildings and other kinds of electrical systems. Electrical Engineers research, develop, design, and test electronic components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, medical, military, and scientific applications (Cosgrove 749). They are concerned with devices that use small amounts of electricity that make up electronic components such as integrated circuits and microprocessors. By applying principles and techniques of electronic engineering they design, develop, and manufacture products such as computers, telephones, radios, and stereo systems (EGOE, 121). Electrical engineers touch everyone lives through the things they have designed or created. Electrical engineers have invented the lights in your house, the television, the stereo, the telephone, computers, and even your doctor’s blood pressure gauge (Stine 300).
There are hundreds of occupation around the world, few of which anyone would want to do. Being an electrician is one of them. Electrician keep lighting, electrical system around a building and generator working. Being an electrician can also be dangerous. You can die if you get Electrocuted by touching cables that have running current through them.
Engineering has been a key interest of mine since childhood. While still in grade school I enjoyed listening to my father, an electrical engineer, teach me about advances in technology, and was always eager to hear more. I was introduced to my first computer at the age of five, and have loved interacting with them ever since. My decision to study engineering as a career was no surprise to those who knew me.
When you want to advance in your field you must be able to obtain certifications in many different programs. When you have a certification it says something about what you know as an engineer, “Certifications provide status to those who have proven their knowledge and give employers a benchmark standard for measuring employee candidates” (Ricci, 2012). Before you apply for a mechanical engineering job you should get a bachelor but now in the workplace you will need a master’s degree to have a chance of moving up in the workplace. Bureau of Labor Statistics (2015) says, “Some colleges and universities offer 5-year programs that allow students to obtain both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree”. My decision to become an electrical engineer was not a decision I took too long ago. It is something that I decided to pursue when I entered a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) high school. It was then that I realized how much I enjoyed working with computers and building circuits, and the fact that this career involved many subjects. Doing a lot of research to understand better what it meant to be an Electrical Engineer, I found out that in order to succeed in this career one had to know a little bit of everything. As an engineering student, design, develop and test electrical equipments is the major purpose of all time. In other words, electrical engineer is concerned with using electricity to transmit electric power. It is also worth to point out the difference between electrical engineering and electronic engineering. Recently, computer engineering has been the basis of the human world. We rely on computers like it is water or air, and it’s come to the point where they could be a necessity for success. The report I am going to write about is to do with electrical safety devices and safety practices which contribute in reducing and eliminate specific risks. The workplace I have chosen to write about is electricians in power stations. The report I am going to write is going to show a clear understanding of electrical safety devices and the improvements of electrical safety devices.
From my perspective, excellent electronic engineers are a group of gifted and imaginative talents who bravely explore and innovate, change the world with passion and innovation. I have always dreamed of becoming one of them. For realizing this dream, I started from China 's Jilin University and then joined The University of Manchester for BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering to take more advanced professional courses. In UoM, I managed to gain GPA of 4.0. Yet, my pursuit of the dream does not end there, since I plan to apply for M.S. program in Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Carnegie Mellon University, where I can receive the best education among the world.
