In this COMM3002 Communication Studies project video clip, we are going to take the tactics of parody and comedy as the genres of our video clip to mock the TV show nowadays are too resemble and without quality guarantee to general public. This is a satirical story which mocks the entertainment industry of Hong Kong nowadays, all the artists are double-sided faces, in front of the camera, we act nicely; however, once they off the camera, they exposed their own personality in a panoramic view, and to reveal the true selves of entertainers behind the camera, in order to remind those who desire to be a star and work in the entertainment industry that the reality of this industry is not as glamorous as it appears.
The story is about a famous Hong Kong chef with under par cooking skills and intellect hosts a cooking show on TV, but as conflicts quickly arise between her and her guest, her true colors end up being revealed by her young and inexperienced guest.
Our project synopsis is Cat is a famous hostess in Hong Kong and she hosts her own cooking show on TV. For this week’s episode, she invites the up-and-coming singer, Karmen, as her guest. Along with Cat’s personal assistant, the three of them make their way to the local market in search for fresh ingredients to cook a “delicious” dish. Cat then reveals that she is preparing a special kind of tempura, one of which its recipe has been long lost – orange peel tempura. As they are preparing the dish, Karmen notices that Cat is constantly rude and inconsiderate towards her assistant, not to mention she cooks terribly. Along with the well-developed technologies, we intended to film a parody to mock the TV shows that are manufacture in a rough and slipshod way; their facial expression, body gesture and even the speech are almost the same. So in this video portrait, we think that it is a need to stand out to do something for our society. We no longer want to receive useless information every day, so we want to film Cat’s kitchen to arouse people’s attention about this eager issue. Although our target audiences are only classmates, but as we gained the experience of how to film a video, we might keep on filming others social issues and uploaded to YouTube; try to gain the attention of the general public.

In conclusion, Julia Child’s experiences display all that can be done when people do not give up. Although she was often excluded in her cooking classes, she did not quit. Creating a French cookbook for Americans was not an easy task either, but she did not back down. Trying to publish her cookbook and having to deny requests from their original publisher was definitely painful. But, her thick skin, endurance, and principle all payed off when the first edition of Mastering the Art of French Cooking finally hit the shelves.

I have researched various types of mass media in the United States, such as music, films, television and magazines. Originally the narrator admired her father greatly, mirroring his every move: “I walked proudly, stretching my legs to match his steps. I was overjoyed when my feet kept time with his, right, then left, then right, and we walked like a single unit”(329). The narrator’s love for her father and admiration for him was described mainly through their experiences together in the kitchen. Food was a way that the father was able to maintain Malaysian culture that he loved so dearly, while also passing some of those traits on to his daughter. It is a major theme of the story. The afternoon cooking show, “Wok with Yan” (329) provided a showed the close relationship father and daughter had because of food. Her father doing tricks with orange peels was yet another example of the power that food had in keeping them so close, in a foreign country. Rice was the feature food that was given the most attention by the narrator. The narrator’s father washed and rinsed the rice thoroughly, dealing with any imperfection to create a pure authentic dish. Through the times both, ideas and materials used, separates art in to different periods and movements. In late 40’s and late 50’s two art and culture movements emerged, one from another. The first one, Lettrism, was under the aspiration to rewrite all human knowledge. From it another movement, Situationism, appeared. It was an anti-art movement which sought for Cultural Revolution. Both of these movements belong to wide and difficulty defined movement of experiment, a movement whose field is endless. Many different people create experimental films because of the variety of reasons. Some wishes to express their viewpoints which are unconventional. But most of them have an enthusiasm for medium itself. They yearn to explore what prospects the medium has and wishes to open new opportunities to create and to explore, as well as to educate. Experimental filmmaker, differently from mainstream filmmakers, wishes to step out from the orthodox notions. The overall appreciation is not the aim that the experimental filmmakers would seek for. Experimenters usually work on the film alone or with a small group, without the big budget. They intend to challenge the traditional ideas. The first time I read Kitchen, I knew I was experiencing something very special. Not since my initial reading of Catcher in the Rye have I witnessed such a perceptive look at the joys and pains of growing up. These coming-of-age novels capture our attention with plots that, while twisting and turning in creative, off-beat ways, remain believable. The writers of these novels tell us their stories with a subtle style more exciting than that of textbooks and assigned reading, a style not unlike a good one-sided conversation. Finally, within this great style of writing, the authors infuse honest insights, often humorous and sometimes poignant, which do not carry a lecturing or authoritative tone. Banana Yoshimoto, as translated by Megan Backus, incorporates these three elements of a successful coming-of-age novel into Kitchen skillfully. The result is magnificent.
The movie “The Hundred Foot Journey” is a great representation of different cultures interacting as well as the different food habits. The movie is based on an Indian family who moves to Italy and wants to open an Indian restaurant across street from a famous Italian restaurant in the small town. The Kadam family wants to bring the Indian cuisine to a new culture and share some of their values. They have trouble expanding their culinary delights to the public because Marquerite the sous-chef doesn’t want any competition. Throughout the movie, secrets on certain dishes are shared and tricks to improve the certain style of food is greatly appreciated by both restaurant chefs.
