What is a graphic Designer? What do they do? What makes them important? A graphic designer designs items such as; logos, billboards, pamphlets, and other promotional print and digital art work. Graphic Designers can work in just about any field or place of business due to the high demand for promotional items. A graphic designer can work for a company, freelance or both. The job requires talking with clients, computer software, and getting quality products in a timely fashion. The United States Department of labor describes a graphic designer as, “Graphic designers create visual concepts, by hand or using computer software, to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate consumers. They help to make an organization recognizable by selecting color, images, or logo designs that represent a particular idea or identity to be used in advertising and promotions.”(Summary). The career field of graphic design I believe is very important to every business from the beginning to the collapse.
Graphic Design has been around since the beginning of time. According to the Institute of Research:
“Signs of the beginning of graphic design date back to prehistoric times. About 30,000 years ago humans began creative ventures by painting what have come to be called pictographs on rock walls...In 1440, Johannes Gutenberg took moveable type a step further by inventing the first printing press...In the middle 1700s two more typeface designers made important contributions to graphic design. William Caslon developed the Caslon type, still used today, and John Baskerville created a book to showcase special inks and typefaces he had designed.…In 1460, Albrecht Pfister printed the first book to use illustrations made with woodcuts.
