Overivew of the Same Sex Marriage Debate
In today's rapidly growing society, current social issues and family morals are constantly changing the dynamics and aspects of individuals. One constant issue that has been a topic of discussion in the last decade has been marriage of the same sex. There are many people who support this idea, as well as people are against the concept. Same-sex marriage has been an issue today. Some people argue that the Constitution of marriage is intended to bond one male and one female, that the definition of marriage makes the same-sex marriage improper because same sex marriage keeps children from learning proper roles. It will negatively impact future family structure.
Psychological, children develop proper techniques and values to be successful in life from their parents or authoritative figures. With improper marriage of the same-sex, an individual that's a child would have psychological confusion and turmoil of whether his family is as normal and structured as their peers or others. With this constant confusion as the child develops into adulthood, they are 38% more likely to continue the pattern of same-sex marriage according to brondonvogt.com/marriage. This will only develop the trend of same-sex marriage across America and disrupt the childhood of many adolescents.
Morally, same-sex marriage activists argue that their marriage is a civil rights issue similar to the struggle of racial ideology in the 1960s. However, this concept is false. First of all, sexual behavior and race are essentially two different realities. A man and a woman wanting to marry may be different and their characteristics as far as color, ethnic background, short, tall, wealthy or poor, but none of these differences acts...

-If gay marriage is legal, it will be taught in the schools. Children's textbooks will explain the doctrine that the associations that homosexualists have indicated and that homosexuality is normal. It will also be taught that children should experiment with their sexuality to discover that sex attracts them more and that the people who oppose homosexuality are intolerant. Of course each television series just as it is starting now that have its pair of homosexuals or lesbians with children.
Recently, people have been arguing with respect to the definition of marriage. To get married is a very important event for almost everyone. Particularly for women, marriage and giving a birth could be the two major events of their lives. Andrew Sullivan and William Bennett are authors who are arguing about homosexual marriage. Sullivan believes in same-sex marriage because he thinks everyone has a right to marry. On the other hand, Bennett speaks out against Sullivan’s opinion. Bennett makes a claim that marriage is between a man and a woman structuring their entire life together. Both authors’ opinions differ on same-sex marriage. Nevertheless, their ideas are well recognized.
We live in a very controversial time when it comes to same sex marriages. This issue is one of the most widely discussed controversies along with what rights they deserve and what rights they should be denied. Straight people have very opposing beliefs on this topic, some believe gays are given far too few rights and should be granted ultimate freedom while others believe gays already have enough rights and the debate should end now. This is why our nation is so at war with this issue. The research found explains if marital and family status influence same sex marriages, gay rights, laws on marriage, the strength of gay marriage, and how the government is working to expand gay marriage rights.
Same-sex marriage is one of the leading political topics in the United States today. There is an ongoing dispute pertaining to the legalization of same-sex marriages. America has shifted its head to focusing on supporting same-sex marriage or not. Many are for and against this topic but there has been no settlement for it yet. Homosexuals want to marry for the same reason that heterosexuals have and there should be no reason why they are not allowed to. There is some history behind this topic but there has yet to be a solution.
Marriage as generally define is the union between one man and one woman. However a recent debate over same-sex marriage has stirred a nationwide debate reverberating in the halls of Congress, at the White House, in dozens of state courtrooms and legislatures, and is also becoming a speech-making topic for election campaigns at both the national and state levels. As the debate for this controversial topic rages on, the American religious community view on the topic remains deeply divided over the matter and over the morality of homosexuality in general. Granting legal marriage right to gays and lesbians would primarily alter the idea of marriage, ignore a child’s right to a mother and father, and expands government control of marriage.
One of the most controversial issues around today is gay marriages. Many believe that the media is primly responsible for the idea of same-sex marriages, but when it all comes down to it there are really only two sides; those who support gay marriages, and those who oppose them. Two authors write their opinions on their opposite views on this issue. Sullivan (2002) supports same-sex marriages and believes marriage to be a universal right, not just restricted to heterosexuals. Contrary to Sullivan, Bennett (2002) believes that marriage is a sacred traditional family value that should be set aside for heterosexual couples. (2002)Throughout this essay, I will summarize both authors’ ideas and evaluate them through their evidence and styles.
"What Are the Reasons for and against Gay Marriage | Law Teacher." What Are the Reasons for and against Gay Marriage
...eing married, Marriage used to really be something that lasted until you died however, now marriage aren’t a lifetime commitment. Finally the other reason Stanton says that marriage is deteriorating is because it has become re-definable. He means that marriage used to always be between and male and a female but now society is pushing for same gender marriages to be recognized. These changes certainly have an impact on the way our society treats the sacred union of marriage. Regardless of what marriage has become the research definitely shows an evolution of the term marriage.
Every little girl dreams of the day they will get married and live happily ever after. What if the little girl grows up and wants to marry a woman instead of man? Traditional marriage consist of a union between man and woman, but the LGBT community wants marriage legalized for same-sex couples now more than ever. The pressing question is whether or not same-sex marriage is ethical. It is a controversial topic that often fuels heated debates that range from the well-being of kids, religion, AIDS, and long lived family values (Thrioux & Krasemann, 282). Homosexual marriage is an evolutionary process and the views of society are evolving constantly (Von Drehle). Homosexual marriage is ethically correct because of the support from numerous ethical theories like utilitarianism, prima facie duties, and virtue ethics.
Same-sex marriage or “gay” marriage is described as a relationship between two people of the same gender. Marriage should be between two people who love each other; it should have nothing to do with gender. In most states, married couples are treated differently than a non- married couple, which goes for gay couples as well. In some states, same-sex marriage is illegal. Those who don’t support same sex marriage, whether it be because of harbored hostility or their traditional views, are more accepting of a legislative decision over a judicial decision (Dry, p. 277-278). Same sex couples should have the same rights as straight couples. “The case for same sex marriage is stronger than the case against, largely because it obtains clear benefits
Gay marriage has been a controversial issue for over half a century; one of the issues is where gays aren’t allowed to marry another individual of the same sex. There have been propositions, bans and legalizations on same-sex marriage that differ from state to state. Some states for example such as California and New York allow gay marriage and the remaining states disagree with that decision. The thoughts and beliefs of citizens of different states also have conflict, especially in the southeastern region of the United States as they are anti-gay. Some individuals feel that in the traditional definition that marriage is usually between one man and one woman. However, there are others who believe that true love does not have a gender and everyone has the right to marry whomever the want. Even if the whole nation decided to officially prohibit gay marriage, or legalize it, there will always be people with logical and moral conflicting opinions and judgments on same-sex marriage. The main argument is to analyze what actually determines a marriage to be acceptable or unacceptable to society.
... made groups of people have a very hostile attitude toward the subject matter. The traditional view of marriage is also important because it influences future generations and teaches children the meaning of the special union of a man and a woman. Many people also argue that when raising a child he or she should be raised by a father and a mother. Not both of the same sex. Although the debate of same-sex marriage may not affect some people, this is a hot topic that has changed the opinion of many people around the world. The topic of same-sex marriage is a subject that needs to be discusses by individuals who are certain of what they stand for and are capable of providing others with true and convincing arguments.
Same sex marriage is a very controversial topic in today’s society. We live in a society filled with ignorance. The ignorance that poisons the minds of people that oppose same sex marriage blinds them from the reality of the “problem”. People argue that same sex marriage should be illegal for reasons that will have no negative impact on their lives. The reality of this topic is that legalizing same sex marriage promotes the increase of adoption, human rights and equality, as well as the separation of the church and state.
Same-sex marriage is a broad and current controversy in the United States today. The movement to legalize same-sex marriage started in the 1970; however, it is still not legal in all fifty states yet (“Same-sex marriage in the United States”). Legalizing same-sex marriage should not be a debate. People should be able to marry who they love regardless of sexual orientation. Same-sex marriage should be legal because it is a human right, religion should not interfere with state laws, it does not adversely affect the heterosexual community in any way, and same-sex marriage can actually benefit our society.
In conclusion I argue that banning same-sex marriage is discriminatory. It is discriminatory because it denies homosexuals the many benefits received by heterosexual couples. The right to marriage in the United States has little to do with the religious and spiritual meaning of marriage. It has a lot to do with social justice, extending a civil right to a minority group. This is why I argue for same-sex marriage. The freedom to marry regardless of gender preference should be allowed.
