Managing Life Cycles Influences in an Organization
For everything in life there is a season, and the same holds true for business. There is a life cycle that successful businesses inevitably pass through. They endure the perils up start-up, often on a shoestring; they grow to greater size and stability, permitting the owners to think about building wealth for themselves and their employees; and they progress to a point where owners have to think about valuing and succession or sale of the business (Forbes p9).
Your intelligence gathering--what you need to know and when you need to know it--will vary depending on the cyclical speed of the industry life cycles. When you recognize cyclical trends you will be able to determine effective intelligence strategies. If you work in a relatively new industry you will want to identify potential (new or would-be) surprise competitors. Near the end of the growth stage, you will need intelligence that will help hold market share during the market's eventual decline ( Inside R & D, p NA).
Start Up Stage
The start up stage is the most trying stage. A newly formed company is still testing out the waters. Expenditure is high and usually greater then the revenue due to start up costs and other start up fees. This is the time where you need to have strong management personnel that will stick with the company during the not so lean times. They have to have clear defined goals that they can pass on to their department.
Each stage also demands different talents and perspectives, and new leaders usually have to be brought in as businesses progress. The visionary who is well suited to leading a new business through its early experimental stages is often poorly equipped to guide the venture through the expansion and integration stages, when sales and organizational skills become more important than bold thinking and creativity (Garvin, 2004).
The manager?s job is three-fold. They need to: 1) decide what needs to be done and how it is to be accomplished; 2) continually react to market conditions,
3) make sure his and his employees' efforts support that continually changing vision. Without a strong leader at the helm, the vision of the firm will be quickly outdated and the firm will be overrun by increased costs and declining sales (Osheroff p21).
The goal of management is to see that rules are followed, budgets are met, and metrics are achieved.
This paper will contain research done about foster care, including a brief history and progressing along to the system today. This research interested me because it is a professional career option after graduation. I found both positives and negatives about the foster care system that children and foster parents go through on a daily basis. As the paper progresses I will be explaining these positives and negatives in more detail. Throughout the paper I will be referencing different scholarly sources that explain foster care in different ways. Overall, this paper will show different aspects that the general public may never know about foster care.
Managing: Planning, recognising top priority, making decisions, facilitating change, and keeping the system functioning well. They all take effort to move toward its goals and vision
Moreover the leaders think about the changing industry environment, and try to analyze, understand and predict how their competitors will likely to behave in the industry with every change. The organization leaders look at how the organization can successfully innovate, and shape their strategies and their business to compete and succeed in the market. The vision can be tested by appropriate market research, on their side and the market side also, to find the risk possibilities, and the best way to reduce it or avoid it. Therefore, leadership demand a hard work, like planning step ahead, problem solving, and not being satisfied with what is in the table, and how things are, but to try to improve for the best.
In todays’ society many Americans never think about our foster care system. Foster care is when a child is temporarily placed with another family. This child may have been abused, neglected, or may be a child who is dependent and can survive on their own but needs a place to stay. Normally the child parents are sick, alcohol or drug abusers, or may even be homeless themselves. We have forgotten about the thousands of children who are without families and living in foster homes. Many do not even know how foster care came about. A few of the earliest documentation of foster care can be found in the Old Testament. The Christian church put children into homes with widowers and then paid them using collection from the church congregation. The system that the church had in place was actually successful, and was continued to be used until English Poor Law eventually regulated family foster care in the U.S.
One article about the harms of aging out states, "Each year, about 30,000 foster care youth age out of the system. Many of them exit without finding a stable, affordable, permanent living arrangement" (Richards 2). After aging out, former foster children also face problems going off to post-secondary school and finding jobs. This is because to apply for a job, one must provide proof of a home address. If someone is homeless, that makes getting a job so much harder. Nevertheless, the system does try its hardest to prevent issues like this from arising. There are programs like Section 8 Housing, Family Unification Programs (FUP), and Continuum of Care services, which help foster care children and teenagers after they have aged out. This being said, not many foster care youth know about these programs. It should be the job of the caseworker involved with the child to inform them of these programs. Furthermore, there is a stigma against children in foster care and those who have aged out. This may be a factor in why some do not apply for such programs. Foster care and adopted children are a part of almost every community, so society should try its best to include them and not blame
Scott F Fitzgerald’s, The Great Gatsby (1925), captures the idea about the lengths a person will go to too change their entire personality and background as they believed that the life they previously had was not their destiny and wanted to better themselves. The Great Gatsby is an example of when a character has met their demise due to their obsession on changing themselves to what they perceived as their ideal self. The self is what distinguishes you as a person. It’s your personality, identity and persona. However Jacques Lacan’s theorizes that idea of self is imaginary. That it is not a coherent thing. Lacan’s theorizes that it is instead a failure to identify ‘I’ from the other. A product of identification which we have created to identify ourselves with other people. It is how we perceive ourselves and others and can be changed depending on the experiences we have in our lifetime.
The tiger in this story has a name, Richard Parker. This is from the help from a hunter whose name is Thirsty None Given. Pi spends quite a long time describing the origin of Richard Parker’s name. He also does the same with his own name. “[Mr. Chiba] ‘So the Taiwanese sailor is the zebra, his Mother is the orangutan, the cook is…the hyena…-which means he’s the tiger!’” (311) In the stories both the zebra and sailor fall from great heights. From this fall they had both broken they leg badly, the sailor had his bone protruding from his skin. As the zebra and sailor are suffering badly for most of the time they are shown, they are an inference that they represent Pi’s physical suffering as well as the heavy emotional toll that has happened to him though on the boat. In the first day the cook (hyena) had the idea to sever the leg at the broken bone a...
According to the International Foster Care Organization “Foster care is a way of providing a family life for children who cannot live with their own parents.”(2004) Foster care is supposed to provide temporary care while parents get help dealing with problems, or to help children or young people through a difficult period in their lives. Children will return home once their parents are able to provide a safe enviorment for them. However if parent are unable to resolve the issues that cause their child in foster care their children may stay in long-term foster care, some may be adopted, and others will move on to live independently. (IFCO, 2004) Foster care has been a problem for many years and although there have been many attempts to improve it; it there still seems to be negatively impacting
The protagonist, Pi is initially apprehensive to accept Richard Parker on the raft, but later comes to appreciate the tiger once he realizes this animal’s presence is crucial for his survival on the boat. First, Pi is scared and reluctant to accept his shadow self because it conflicts with his character and complicates his beliefs. This is evident when he says, “Together? We’ll be together? Have I gone mad? I woke up to what I was doing […]. Let go […] Richard Parker […] I don’t want you here […]. Get lost. Drown! Drown!!” (Martel 123). Though Pi recognizes his shadow self by encouraging Richard Parker to come on the boat, he soon realizes that he is about to accept his shadow self. He instantly regrets his decision and throws an oar at him in an effort to stop Richard Parker. His action symbolizes his denial and confusion he feels towards the extent of br...
The set goals should also be those that are favourable to the workers, as well as the management team as a whole. This is to ensure that they can be met easily without much difficulties involved.

We, as humans, often underestimate the fragility of our morals and “humanity”. In Life of Pi, author Yann Martel tells the story of a young boy named Pi who, after being shipwrecked and losing his entire family, must somehow survive in the middle of the Pacific Ocean with a grown tiger for days on end by abandoning all the morals he once valued. Through Pi’s story, Martel shows how easily humans can become akin to animals when finding themselves in a desperate situation.
A leader will know what direction they want their organization to go. They will have clearly communicated their vision to their followers. In order to achieve successful results for their vision an effective leader will have a well organized, detailed plan delegating important tasks to the appropriate people who will assist in achieving the vision.
function, managers need to analyse how activities and resources are to be grouped and carry out plans successfully (Bartol 2007). A manager have to understand their ability to manage the lower level employee which is the most valuable of the company as they are the key of output and implement in the planning. Then manager will coordinate the jobs between authority and responsibility that is to define the role position of them (MSG 2012).
The world of business has undergone radical and dramatic changes in the last decade changes that present extraordinary challenges for the contemporary manager. A manager is an organizational member who is responsible for planning, organizing, leading, and controlling the activities of the organization so that the goals can be achieved. According to a widely referenced study by Henry Mintzberg, managers serve three primary roles: interpersonal, informational, and decision-making. Management is process of administrating and coordinating resources effectively and efficiently in an effort to achieve the goals of the organization.
