Pop culture is appreciating more than what is at the cinemas or what singers are the most popular. It is reflective of the political atmosphere and social opinions of the nation. Which affect various people in different ways. Oprah was just a small Chicago women with a corrupted childhood that in 1984 turned to host a WLS-TV 's morning talk show AM, Chicago. Which became the number one local talk show, then in less than a year turned into the famous hour long show "The Oprah Winfrey Show". Oprah Gail Winfrey is one of the countless people set out in the world of pop culture. According to Jeffery L. article, “Saint Oprah” refers to Oprah’s time as “Oprahification of American Culture”. Oprah provided that guidance through her TV show, there was such an overwhelming leadership. According to Eva Lllouz Oprah Winfrey and the Glamour of Misery: An Essay on Popular Culture “Oprah’s legacy has established her as one of the most significant personalities in popular culture.” And then continued to state that Oprah’s “contributions can be felt beyond the world of television and into areas such as publishing, music, film, philanthropy, education, health and fitness as well as social awareness. Oprah entertains, enlightens, and empowers millions of viewers around the world.” (pg.2) Helping prove the point that Oprah had the qualities of good leadership, and she used them to help the people around her. In 1996 “The Oprah Winfrey Show” started what to in as one of the most famous book clubs in history. Winfrey was very determined to distance herself from what Jeffery Louis Decker would call a “tabloid talk on TV” to a more informational choice that provided information to help her views become better people. Hence the famous book club that sourced to success. Since there was already such a wide popularity of the show, many unknown books become popular best sellers. Throughout many of her organizations you can find a typical chain, most of them have to deal with women and women’s overall rights. As mentioned before Oprah was named one of the most influential women in the world, and as a fighter for women rights and women recognition. Many of Oprah organizations on her website stand for women and children, awarding hundreds of grants that “support the inspiration, empowerment and education” for women, children and families in general. She has contributed millions of dollars towards help for women and children. You do not always commonly hear so much about support being provided for women, giving Oprah the upper hand in being so influential for women.
